Hey, that Razor is a fine machine. Here in Europe they sell it as Jasic. I have one and it's my favourite . I also have a SAF a Cebora and a Miller, but the last 3 years I did almost all of my TIG jobs with this machine. Love your channel bro.

Aye T7 in the back, love seeing more people adopt adventure bikes as they are superior. I'd love to see video doing similar repair using standard tig filler, versus some of the specialized filler made for cast repairs like this. 9 times out of ten since im a home gamer I just normal rods for whatever cast junk friends/family ask for help on.

Sometimes what you can do is do a pre run without filler on the part to help pull any oxides or contaminates prior to welding. Also helps with pre heat.

Flame Holder = Pottery Clay (purchase at your local art store for $12). Also, we appreciate the brand you're using but more importantly, is it 5356 or 4043 rod that you're using? I use both with mixed results.

Anthony, I understand the importance of post flow while the tungsten is red hot after welding aluminum. but why is it not an issue when welding regular steel or stainless steel, i run almost no post flow when welding carbon steel and my tungsten stays perfect. but if i even move the tungsten through the air too fast after an aluminum weld it just flakes apart
@MeltinMetalAnthony
@MeltinMetalAnthony 24 күн бұрын
I’m not really sure. My guess is it has something to do with alternating frequency. I use more post flow on SS so I avoid cooking it

Safety always says wear gloves when handling solvent of any kind, but I am with you I have seen girls soak their fingers in it for 30+ minutes to take off nails. I think the gloves are more so you don't contaminate the base metal or the rods with the oils on your hands.

Tool and die welder here. No hate, just honest advice, cast aluminum is a fucking bitch and i hate it every time it comes into the shop. I've never used anything by "Rockmount" and they don't release its contents so I don't know that I ever would. Not knowing the composition of a rod is a big no for me, no matter how its advertised. I'm sure in your case that doesnt really matter though, because this isnt a high stress part, so that not the point im trying to make there. In my personal experience, I prefer something with higher magnesium content (5% or above) , as it helps with ductility and prevents cracking, you'll find those high contents in fillers such as 5356, 5183, or 5556. I don't know where the average guy can find 5183 or 5556, so for most things, just use 5356. (edit to add this, unless you are exposing it to 150+ degree temperatures pretty much constantly, in that case, probably use like 4043 or 5554) 5356 also has about 6,000 more pounds of tensile than that Rockmount does, and better shear strength. Add that with the ductility, its basically the farmers rod of aluminum. Also yes, peening is good. to elaborate a little further than you did, by peening it down you're essentially relieving some of the internal stress that welding creates. I often have to do this on most dies I weld on, usually tool steels that don't much like to be welded on, (H-13 and such). I usually use an air hammer, but im sure the ball peen does good enough with how soft the aluminum is. Overall, good repair. Looks solid enough to hold. Keep it up, love from the midwest.
