Love when all 3 of you are on here together. It’s such a dynamic trio lol You got Matt who is the ultimate hype man and is probably on the limitless pill David who is always chill, laid back, and cathartic with his answers Then Nathan who sits right in the middle of the spectrum and steers the topics (and effortlessly cites data while breaking it down for the lay person).

As always, informative and helpful. My fiancé and I train and run marathons together. We’ve had numerous conversations about carbon plated shoes and often fall to the side of, the problems they seem to cause outweigh their benefits. On two occasions my fiancé has experienced quite a bit of hip pain post-marathon, which has not occurred with other shoes. She wore different iterations of the Vaporflys on both occasions. Most recently, I wore the Adizero Adios Pro 3s and my feet were destroyed after the race. I had worn them a few times and thought they were safe. After about mile 18 the pain from the rods was significant and my feet had noticeable swelling after the race. Luckily Running Warehouse accepted my return for store credit! We both have the mindset of not wearing carbon plated (or shoes with carbon rods) in the future. It seems it’s a delicate process of testing a racing shoe to determine race readiness. As you discussed, plated shoes do seem to pose physiological risk. There is no doubt a risk vs reward to them. Nevertheless, great episode. Here is my entry for the Running Warehouse giveaway!

72 y.o here and the plated /rocker allows me to continue running. The forefoot rocker is a HUGE benefit after 50 years of long distance racing and training. And track work!! But feet and ankles really like supershoes. 5 days a week running. Have had to work on hip/upper leg/glute strength. PT exercises, physio etc. More v4 is an exception. I am talking endorphin pro/ speed, NB SC Elite and trainer, Alphafly, AsicsMagic speed (v1 only). Adios pro 3, Tecumie Sen and Adizero pro (not adios pro) But no treadmill! Too much opposing forces: plate vs tread belt direction movement.
@jameswestmoreland971711 ай бұрын
Treadmill: I can train more by shifting some body weight to the treadmill "arms" and decreased pounding: just 1-2 days week. Run on bike path next to my house 3-4 days a,week, mountains in summertime.

I like your videos but it would be much more helpful if you would state how you all run. Why not when you give an impression say if you are a forefoot , midfoot or heelstriker? That makes a big big difference. You could even go further and show where you all normally wear off the shoes. That would give a much better idea to the viewers.

Here for the running content obviously, but gladly partaking in the giveaway. Loved this episode. Been preaching this to my peers for ages. Train in trainers, adapt, race in fast shoes. We get so caught up in sexy workouts and times and strava. "Back in the day" flats and spikes were so special because you ONLY used them for races or one tuneup workout. Besides the physiological stuff, the "specialness" of racing shoes is gone when we use them too much. Only wear the special shoes and the special kit and the lucky socks, etc etc on race day.

I’m fortunate to be able to try a bunch of different shoes, both plated and non-plated. I’ve made it a point to use them solely for big workouts, and uptempo long runs. Almost all of my long runs incorporate some sort of faster paces for my next goal race. I find it’s been the biggest improvement in my fitness doing so since it’s combining the higher mileage plus added intensity without going too far and affect recovery. I supplement these workouts with plenty of very very easy runs. Cheers
@DavidGonzalez-kv1nc10 ай бұрын
Kind of combining the two main topics: how would you use a carbon shoe to help runners come back from tendinitis or for runners who have a history of ankle injuries from other sports (basketball) which has caused some reduction in ankle mobility?

Really looking forward to the metaspeed sky/edge! Wondering about the slightly higher medial arch - I tried on a metaspeed edge and i can feel it on my left foot. Does that mean it’s a no go already, or is it still worth checking the comfort on a run before making a call?

Great episode. I believe in super shoes if you run a fast enough pace and your body can handle the added stress. My first and only super shoe is the Endorphin Pro (v1). The Pro 3, and good training, helped me qualify for the venerable blue coral at the Gate River Run 15k, where I won a top 10% hat, not easy at my age. Also, regarding discounts, Nike, Adidas, and others offer discounts for military, first responders, and others, so check into that. Best to shop at your local small business run store though, as long as they have knowledgeable staff.

I recently expanded my shoe rotation to run in low stack ones (Adios 8) and high stack ones alternately, so far it feels really great that I got to put stress in different groups of muscles and tendons, and reduce the risk of injury on them as I build up my volume. One thing I’m not sure is I really don’t have much experience in plated shoes, or, to put it in another way, what makes plated shoes different? Why all marathon racing shoes are plated today? Thank you!

I recently purchased the Nike Vaporfly 3 for sprint triathlons, as well as 5km and 10km races. I also have asics novoblast 4 for most training runs. My plan is to use these shoes exclusively for tempo runs and races. Today, I tested them to see how they feel and to start breaking them in. However, after setting a new PB, I experienced bilateral calf pain. This is unusual for me, as I’ve never had calf pain before, haven’t increased my training load, and made sure to warm up properly. I suspect the new shoes are the cause, as I’ve read that the Vaporfly can sometimes lead to calf discomfort. My question is: Should I stick with these shoes and try to adapt, or should I consider switching to a different pair?
