As much as I wish I had sent my dog to Brandon for training before bringing him home kzbin.infoUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU I am so grateful for this down-to-earth, practical guide. His training techniques and tips really work. Thank you as well for dedicating your life's work to rescue dogs, and to rescuing those of us who want the very best for our 4-legged family members.

Zak's videos have helped as I have been training and working with my now 4.5 month old puppy! A few things we can't seem to break 1. Potty Training, she taught herself to ring the bell but will still potty inside. 2. Jumping when out on the leash or up on people. She LOVES people and wants to say hi to EVERYONE! I am working on trying to get her not to jump on people or while on her leash 3. The puppy bitting. She only bites me. At times I can redirect her but more often than not she returns to biting me.

Hello Zak! I’ve been watching your videos for a couple months now and I have bought one of your books to help with my own dog. His name is Pete and he is 2 years old. He is part Australian Shepard and Australian cattledog(which are super smart). He don’t understand the concept on holding an object in his mouth. This would lead to tricks such as putting away his toys or wrapping himself up in a blanket (burrito form). He knows many other tricks though such as sit, stay, leave it, touch, shake, roll over, play dead, speak, jump through hoops, and party (where he gets on his hind legs and jumps around in a circle). I love my dog and I love showing him new and fun tricks to teach him and it would be great to get some feedback from you.

Hi Zak! I watched almost all your videos about Kona, and following your training program on Pupford app. I have my dog about month now, and last week I struggle with her because she's refusing to eat her food. She knows our training routine, and she's waiting those treats( I tried to replace them with food, not happening!) I don't want to change training routine because it's working really well, but I have accidents because she's not eating regularly ( or at all). She loved her food at start( Acana puppies). Any advice? Thanks!

Just make sure that if the dog is pulling then the walking has stopped. See if the dog responds to toys out on the walk too, if she does holding a toy in your armpit above the dogs head will help them walk to heel. After a few seconds reward with the toy and gradually increase the time before you reward.

@mirandagustafson6867 3 жыл бұрын
Again? Alright, well, if you thought you trained him already, but the dog still won't listen.... You likely barely dipped your toes into training him. Training takes a lot of time and effort. A dog that doesn't listen often does not understand what exactly you want them to do, this can be due to your energy (if you're not calm but assertive, the dog may not listen) or inconsistency in training (not enforcing rules for your dog, not revisiting commands frequently enough, not using the same word or sign for a command every time, etc). There's many other variables, but, in short, yes. Definitely bring him in and train him. If he's having trouble with potty training, try using a "no more marking" pet spray, you can spray it where he likes to go. No dog is untrainable, it's about getting to know your dog and figuring out their motivators and best humane techniques that works for both you and your furry friend!

Just a question to throw out there for those with reactive pups. What is your suggestion for a dog that is unsure about all the face masks during covid?? 😊 I had to do some training with my GSD at the beginning of covid because he was reacting from being unsure.
@emilymoores510
@emilymoores510 3 жыл бұрын
I have a dog-reactive dog so what I do is reward her when she sees her trigger. But if she does bark because I’m not quick enough, we walk away from the situation ASAP to calm down, and then carry on. I guess this would be the same for the face masks. Just reward when your dog sees someone with one, and walk away from the situation if your dog does bark.

Then we did that but with nobody in the room. Then with no one in the house. And so now she is conditioned to be left alone for up to almost 4 hours without freaking out. Another tip would just be showing them that when you aren't in the house, that's a good thing. So giving them bones, KONGS, treats, etc. That's the main things I can think of, I hope this helps! :)

My 5 and a half month old golden retriever does the exact same thing. Its been so hard to break. I've been really working on "leave it" for an hour a day with rewards. It's been helping but he still is so distracted by everything. It makes me so nervous because he doesn't just want to chew on everything, he wants to eat it!

My 7 Month Old Puppy does not Bark at Strangers. How to Make My Puppy Bark at Strangers automatically with Giving Command as Speak. In Small words, How to Make My Puppy a Guard/Protective Dog? Please give some Training tips
@brittanyouldcott2912

Hey you may want to seek some in person training with a trainer that specialises in protection dogs. Protection dogs have a high degree of training and need to be taught much more than just barking at strangers. You probably wouldn't want their default to be barking/ aggressive at strangers even as a protection dog. Mistraining a protection dog can result in a very problematic dog that has the potential to hurt people. Please look up your local dog trainer for help with this, this isn't something you can train or learn for free!

My 10 year old Border collie X Australian shepherd mix eats as fast or even faster as Kona there. I bought a special bowl for him to slow him down, but it doesn't help a lot because he's so smart. After a week he knows exactly how to get his kibble out of that bowl.

A slow feeder bowl may manage the speed but teaches them nothing. Stop using the 'tool' & put in the time hand feeding while training, works great@

@@BushmanBove I have been hand feeding for a year. He misses nutrients because I had to switch from a high energy kibble to a senior kibble because of his age. I switcht last year after his 9th birthday. Because of this he also started to eat poop (and give kisses afterwards). I have tried everything, but after a few succesfull walks without eating poop he knows where the poop is and then he's so extremely fast I can't prevent him from eating it.
@BushmanBove

@@beau2021 Not sure why you changed his food if you now believe he's nutrient deficient, seems you did it because you were supposed to? Why not change back? He can't eat poo if he can't get to it so probably the right situation for using a 'tool'. Leash or long line.

@@BushmanBove I live in the Netherlands and here a dog is not allowed to be off leash anywhere (except for some special places like the beach). So yes he's on a leash and wears a soft muzzle to prevent him from eating poo. I changed his food because he was getting too fat with the high energy kibble. It contains too much nutrients for his age and energy. So his nutrients are fine, but he's not used to it or something. He got the high energy kibble for 8 years. He also doesn't chew on his food. No his teeth are completely fine (I had it checked by a vet). I can hand feed him the rest of his life or he can eat from the slow feeder. Fine by me. It doesn't matter how much food I put in his bowl at the same time. It's gone immediately.

My dog is probably around 135, possibly outweighs me and he’s be giant muscle. He’s five in May. I prefer to use an exercise leash that attaches to my waist so he cannot get away or me lose my grip which the latter is my concern more so. He THINKS he can fly when chasing birds, although I cannot fly. He goes TOWARDS moving cars. I’d like to see what you do with a large dog that’s not obedient. 🤔 Let me also state I LOVE DOGS. More than humans.

If you can’t hold the dog back when it’s pulling you need to try a halti over the head of the dog to reduce the dogs pulling ability. Having the lead on you waist can be dangerous for you getting pulled over and also gives you next to no control over the dog. The training is always the same no matter the size of the dog.

Ironically, Zak George is being called "the hot dog trainer" by the haters, and yet, even after binge-watching this and other training series, I'm NOT SEEING HOTDOGS. It's almost disappointing: Haven't seen a single piece of hotdog on these videos, and certainly haven't seen Zak "throwing hot dogs at aggressive dogs". Hmmm... What I CAN say is that, (yes, "even" for someone coming from the balanced dog training world), these series help me personally a LOT in training my 3 dogs; for instance, I didn't know how to teach holding position in "bow". Personally, when it comes to training, managing, and enjoying life with our 3 dogs, I don't care about disputes going on between the "dog training camps". I'm open to watching, and learning from, the influencers off both "main camps" to educate my dogs in the best way possible, and always in ways that are most enjoyable for the dogs, and thus, for myself as well.

I’ve heard running the opposite direction making weird noise will get them to chase you and then you can catch them easier.

Hes def thinking you two are playing. Try running into the opposite direction and see if he'll chase you back. Also teach him the "touch" command it can be really useful if your dogs recall isnt perfect yet. And maybe think about getting a long leash.

@Never Let Go 💙 Yep start on a long line and gradually shorten it to a normal lead over a few weeks. Throwing loads of commands at the dog at a young age is never a good idea, it’s best to let the dog train itself for some things such as this. A common mistake is letting the dog off the lead when it doesn’t have a recall trained. Another mistake is starting teaching to walk on a lead that is too short and then correcting the dog too close to you so the dog begins to see you as not as fun. The dog should be actively watching you for any changes in direction and should be stopping and sitting when you stop too.
@lewisdunn1487

@Never Let Go 💙 Yep all my dogs are first introduced to most ideas either in the living room or the garden. Always make sure you introduce the first distractions gradually too. Other dogs are usually the biggest distraction but things such as training in the rain and having another person walking around when training can be good starter distractions. If you have a secure front garden that’s also a good place to Get the dog used to people and vehicles going by.
