early season, hill sprints (10x130m above 10% gradient) do very well to get your fitness up. after couple of week I do them once a week. gets me fast back on track.

You need to warm up very well before running hills. If you run hills on cold legs/muscles you have a high probability of getting serious foot injuries including extensor tendinitis and morton's neuroma. The importance of warming up should mandatory be a precursor to any video about running hills.

I ran hills at the local MTB park while training for a 5K last month. I'm glad I did, because the entire last mile of the race was unexpectedly uphill. I thought "I'm okay, I trained for this", and I ran a time I was happy with.

I always see massive benifits to hill running as I'm working on fitness and less speed work. Kenyan Hills has also become a favourite now

MAN!! There is this place down the road, its a gigantic hill, most use it for running, but I hated it, because until now I didn’t know how to master it.. If only it wasn’t frost bitten outside... Gotta put this off till summer

What % grade is typically considered to be "good" for us who have to live life on a treadmill for over half the year?

It depends on what your session is and the outcome. Go by what pace you can hold at the chosen gradient to find what suits you.

Train hard is what u need but if it just hard effort .. like on a flat U wasting effort .. Yes.. u will see gains but not much as u think.. I stArted running on an incline on the treadmill and im seeing results already ... as compared to my 1km repeats on flats

Hello, I have a question for you at GTN. What type and models of socks do you wear for different types of running, this is something I struggle on a lot . Thank you:)
@heatherfell_oly
@heatherfell_oly 4 жыл бұрын
It does depend on the environment, for racing short distances especially if hot I like thinner socks but then for distance blister prevention and comfort is key so go for something a little thicker. Also depends on your shoe fit too.

Hope it's doing better, sounds like runners knee or perhaps I.t. band issue. I can tell you from experience it takes a long time to heal. Squats, clamshells, swimming, biking, and yoga are your friend. Most of all...patience, hope you're doing well.

I love hills but have been prone to Achilles Tendinitis. How do you suggest to warm up/cool down to keep the from getting it again? Or alternative to hills? Maybe with weights?
@heatherfell_oly
@heatherfell_oly 4 жыл бұрын
Well as you touched on warm up is key and solving the problem away from the hills first is probably your best bet as running uphill does put a lot of pressure on the calves and achilles.

2:50 I'm not sure what is your target group but are you seriously telling beginners to run "Hard as you can" 20 sec uphill 6 friken times after one other and you expect a beginner to recover on they way down because one walks the way down. yeah, sure. Do you also tell beginners to make 20 chin ups and do the recovery at the way back down because the real hard work is pulling up. You clearly have no concept of working with beginners since no effort was paid for the heath symptoms while exercising. OMG this is a second video I have seen from your channel because I thought it can't be that bad but they both have been just disappointing. So sad.
