Thank you so much for making all of your videos. They're very easy to understand and easy to watch (many other trainers are very annoying.) I look forward to more in the future.

Hi Kristin, Thank you for making your videos. They're so educational. I have a border collie as well. He likes to jump up on the counters. Do you have any tips on how to get him to stop, even when I'm not home? Thank you so much!

Hi Kristin! Great videos. Any particular order you would suggest teaching cues/commands?
@Krissykris1468

Jordan Shaw Honestly, I'm still trying to work on a playlist but I wanted to add a few more video's upcoming before I make this playlist. The only advice I'd say is easy behaviours first, then work to more complex. Give a cue a go and if you're finding it difficult then try something easier then at a later date re-try the hard behaviour again. There is no particular order to teach anything in, it's whatever you want and the dog can do!

Is it normal for my dog to wait until I leave to eat his food. I just step away and then he eats. I can take his bowl easily an he won't bite or growl, but he just started doing this. I can also easily sit next to him and he will eat his food without even taking notice to me.

And what about the tricks? Do you train one trick, following the four steps on the three kinds of environment, before going to the next? Or do you train them simultaneously? Love your videos!

How long does obedience training take if I'm doing it right? Is different for all dogs? Is it have to with how well bonded you're with your dog?
@Krissykris1468

TheRed Hornet Every dog and owner is different so it's hard to say. The best way I could put it is; you get out what you put in. :) With Luna, I put in over 4 hours a day and still do.

What would you say is the best program for learning to be a dog trainer? I'm going to a lot of self teaching with videos like yours and books, but what certification programs do you recommend? I was looking at karen pryor
@Krissykris1468
@Krissykris1468 8 жыл бұрын
it would really depend on your location. Karen Pryor is a great place but so is Companion Animal Science Institute which is run by Dr James O'Heare.

What about training when you have more than one dog? Do I just need to separate my dogs and train them one at a time? My Australian Shepherd is sitting and looking at my hand while he hears your click from the video. 😅
@TeslaNick2

I've found it depends on what you're training. I train all my dogs both separately and in a group. Fun group sessions are learning their names, patience (taking it in turns), stays, waits etc. and tricks involving two or more dogs. Each dog learns differently, so one to one sessions are essential for obedience or behavior changing and things like that.

Ok, but do you train just one trick until the dog gets perfectly or you train another tricks in parallel? For example, I'm teaching my dog to sit in today's section. He doesn't gets perfectly yet, but tomorrow I'll start to train "touch" also.
@Krissykris1468
@Krissykris1468 10 жыл бұрын
It's better to train 1 cue at a time until the dog has perfected it. Dogs CAN get confused when teaching more then 1 cue at a time. But if you teach sit and he's generalized inside, start another cue inside the next day. But don't teach a new cue in a new environment when the last cue is "okay".

Is there such a thing as to young to start training?
@Krissykris1468
@Krissykris1468 9 жыл бұрын
DeWayne Selway No. You can train your puppy as soon as you get him or her. There are some more complex behaviours that young dogs have harder times understanding, mainly due to the amount of focus a dog needs to complete the behaviour, but it's not saying the pup couldn't - it would just take a lot of training.

The reason why people go wrong is because the dog does not listen... why? Because they train them with treats and silly gadgets! Dogs are naturally biddable. They want to cooperate. All anyone has to do to get their dog to listen at all times anywhere in any situation is to simply talk to them! Just give them a vocal word or two and that is it. For goodness sake, humans are so dumb!!!
