How To Train Your Dragon - In Theaters June 13
From three-time Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe winner Dean DeBlois, the creative visionary behind DreamWorks Animation’s acclaimed How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, comes a stunning live-action reimagining of the film that launched the beloved franchise.
On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames; The Black Phone, For All Mankind) stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler, reprising his voice role from the animated franchise), Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society.
With the fierce and ambitious Astrid (BAFTA nominee Nico Parker; Dumbo, The Last of Us) and the village’s quirky blacksmith Gobber (Nick Frost; Snow White and the Huntsman, Shaun of the Dead) by his side, Hiccup confronts a world torn by fear and misunderstanding.
As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader.
The film also stars Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), Gabriel Howell (Bodies), Bronwyn James (Wicked), Harry Trevaldwyn (Smothered), Ruth Codd (The Midnight Club), BAFTA nominee Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Murray McArthur (Game of Thrones).
How to Train Your Dragon is written, produced and directed by DeBlois. It is also produced by three-time Oscar® nominee Marc Platt (Wicked, La La Land) and Emmy winner Adam Siegel (Drive, 2 Guns). How To Train Your Dragon is part of the Filmed For IMAX® Program, which offers filmmakers IMAX® technology to help them deliver the most immersive movie experience to audiences around the world.
Inspired by Cressida Cowell’s New York Times bestselling book series, DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon franchise has captivated global audiences, earning four Academy Award® nominations and grossing more than $1.6 billion at the global box-office. Now, through cutting-edge visual effects, DeBlois transforms his beloved animated saga into a breathtaking live-action spectacle, bringing the epic adventures of Hiccup and Toothless to life with jaw-dropping realism as they discover the true meaning of friendship, courage and destiny.

Only issue I have is his eyes in the first film are much smaller and they get bigger throughout the films, I interpret this as a portrayal of how tame he is. So it's kindsnweird to have the big puppy eyes when they meat when he originally had somewhat intimidating eyes - especially when he wakes up

Even though this doesn't look terrible it's just so unnecessary. The animated movies are to this day one of my all time favourites and so far it doesn't seem like there will be added anything new with the live action version. Animation is a perfectly valid method of portraying a story and sometimes it's even way better when something is animated. (arcane for example) Httyd also falls under that category!

Personally, I think if they perfectly recreate the scene “first flight”, then to me, it was worth the ticket price. This scene in the animated film had great emotions, feel, colorful scenery, acting, and the music….oh the music, so so good. This scene tied everything so well together that you felt as if you were flying with them. You felt the excitement, the fear, and then their mutual acceptance and trust of one another at the end which caused them to survive. It was truly a masterpiece of a scene and in my opinion, a huge portion of how well this live-action movie does will be based off of that scene.

Nope, pure garbage. Universal is doing what it always does, see's Disney doing something and copies them late, poorly, and with the wrong IP. HTTYD3 is only 5 years old, which means this is an active franchise, not like literally every live action movie Disney has made which has been of an inactive classic. Lion King, Mermaid, Cinderella, etc, all of those were classics with nothing new added in over a decade. Not to mention, it's a shot for shot remake, which means you can get the same effect by watching the original, which will always be better since they aren't limited by the real world problems live-action created.

I'm so nervous about this. The live action scene where Hiccup turns his head to touch Toothless is off. The actor turned his head in a way that looked like he knew that's what he should do, instead of the original Hiccup who's unsure and insecure and hoped maybe it would work. I know it's a small thing but it's the subtle character nuances and voice actor inflections that are what make a character special. Just not sure the live actors can compare to originals.

I feel like they're trying desperately to not mess up like Disney did with their live action stuff. I hope they don't overcorrect too much by making it too similar to the animated version. It's like we're back to our childhood but it feels more realistic and fantastic! Literal goosebumps! It's like when we were kids and we used to think that the people in an animation were real, but now that we have grown up, we can't seem to think like we used to when we were small. Our imagination powers have weakened with time. Yes, I still love animation and I'll love it forever! But, when I see the remakes of the masterpieces of my childhood IRL, it's literally fascinating! With my exhausted mind with everyday life and studies, it's really refreshing to watch an IRL remake, it's more realistic(?), I'd say...but, what matters is that we can be ourselves again, we might have aged, but our love for the movies and series haven't! Thank you for reading my random ranting 😅. Have a good day!🤍 P.s.- I don't mean to say that ALL the adults don't have any imagination powers or anything, they have plenty! What I'm saying is, it just feels like we are getting old TOO fast, and with the fast moving world, it's hard to keep up. We can't go back to our childhood but we CAN enjoy the Nostalgia! 🍀

For example there are thousands of cool bestselling books in the genres of fantasy and sci-fi, why not try to screen something new! No, remakes will be made, all for the money. @MoonLmao Well because there is nothing cool about this. It's just the disney trend of recreating already great and timeless animated movies into live action because nostalgia bait and money. The first movie was a passion project, a new story to tell in a new original world. It wasn't a successful franchise from the start because it wasn't a franchise at the time of release. This one is just telling the same story again. Not a new story, not creating anything new or even following what we knew, just the same thing but this time with real actors instead of animation, something that in my eyes is even a downgrade.
