W my African Grey i was always amazed that she knew week after week, without ANY kind of notice from me that it was Friday. Friday in my house was and still is pizza night. It is the 1 night of the week i DO NOT cook, uunless it is to bake a pizza. That the extent of my cooking on Friday. I guess she had so e kind of internal clock or something. Pizza was her ultimate favorite thing to eat. It was the only day of the week she got some. It was only 4 to 5 bites but she looked forward to it. Friday morning would come and first thing at breakfast she would start saying "piece of pizza". Now she would eat normally during the day but pizza was EXPECTED on friday night. If i ever tried to feed anything else she would just throw it around the room and say piece of pizza. She was amazing! I miss her!

GREAT topic, Marlene!!! This couldn't have come at a more perfect time. My sun conure is 5 months old and a screamer! I can't leave the room without him screaming. He is attached to me the entire time he is out of the cage (12 hours a day) and rarely will play with his toys. This isn't easy when I work from home as he wants to be on my keyboard, pecking at the phone during conference etc. I thought he was having anxiety attacks because he is so attached to me, but now I think I might have reinforced this in some way. Thanks again and can't wait to see Part 2!

I recently lost my budgie, Rocky. He was best friends with my Pineapple GCC, Tsuki. Tsuki has been acting completely different since Rocky left. Now Tsuki flys away when we want him. He has been acting like he is afraid of my hands. He still lands on us and lets us scratch his head. He is just is sometimes funny about step up. Instead of chasing him around my house I have started to use a towel or blanket if he flys after the first attempt.

An excellent video Marlene! I have a sun conjure that knows just what kind of pressure to use in a bite that won't draw blood. He twists his beak just right to hurt to the max. I try not to react but when he bites unexpectedly it's hard not to react! He leaves nice bruises, owch! He also gives me replacement bites when my husband is talking to me. That is really hard to bear.

I have a question Marlene! I'm getting a 7 year old Miligold Macaw this weekend. All of her feathers are plucked due to emotional stress. Could be 1 of two reasons, psychiatrically speaking, both were likely to have influenced his decision, given the relation to the psychology of parrots which you mentioned, it is likely the answer is because he believed that her having her mother around was taking time away from him, and he wanted all of her attention and have no one above her. The other part which likely influenced his psyche, although possibly unrelated to the riddle, is that often times people of this mental standing will attempt to separate any of their victims (includes abusive relationships not just serial killers) from friends and family, isolating them to prevent them from 'escaping' or realizing anything can be done about the situation. I gave him a small piece of dutch cheese, he seemed to like it is it bad?. He has also a new treat that I tried on him: dried cranberry. Only thing is the biting, have scars, the previous owner said he disliked males. Very fond of him already but also stress, he refuses to go back in his cage when I need to leave for groceries or do my thing. My neighbor has a African grey and a umbrella cockatoo that has anxiety and she keeps her African grey in his cage unless her dad is home, and so peewee *the African grey* screams to try and get my neighbors attention and she yells at him and throws stuff at his cage and it breaks my heart. What would you recommend for an African Grey that bites extremely hard (to point of bleeding) when I try to put her in her cage? When it's time for her to go in, as soon as we're a few feet away from her cage, or she realises she is being put back in her cage, SNAP! I'm trying not to screech or shout, but it REALLY hurts. I can usually avoid the situation by instead of putting her back in directly, put her on top of the cage, and put a treat inside the cage. But can I do that forever? should she not be taught to accept me putting her back?
