Yes and no I mean you should really connect to Wi-Fi but if you connect to your cellular service that should work but it might take a little longer.

Hi thank you for the clear video on how to transfer from iphone to iphone. I do have 2 questions, when should I turn of the “find my iphone” and when do I return it to original settings because my phone is going to someone else so all of my information should be deleted and put back to factory settings. Can I still do that after I have taken the sim out or should I do that before transfering the sim to my new phone?

You can just do it whenever you want, the sim don't really matter, I would just take out the sim and get your new one all set up, and then when your happy and your new one is all good, then go factory reset the old phone. And remember to remove it from your iCloud account since your giving it away. You want to go into iCloud and remove it from the devices list or whatever.

One note: If you sync music from iTunes you should not transfer music to the new phone. When I tried to sync after the transfer it told me I didn't have enough space. That's because it was about to make duplicates of 14,000 songs. So I had to go to iPhone Storage and delete all the music off the phone and then sync with iTunes. Wish I had known that.

As far as iCloud it should be setup automatically but because your going to a new device sometime for security reasons you need to enter your credentials for apps and stuff

so I just found your video. going from an iphone 7 plus to an iphone 13 pro max. I am going to try the phone to phone transfer method, and then move my sim card over to the new phone. I realize I cant use my old phone for calls after that, but it can still be used on the wifi network at home correct to access internet, youtube, etc right? Also...as I use my new phone and do things like take pics, add links, etc....does that mirror over to the old phone as well? Or does the old iphone not update after that, mirror the new phone data, etc? Thanks.

yes it can still be used on the wifi for all that stuff, well as long as you are using icloud and you have both phones logged into your icloud account then they will mirror pictures and stuff and yes the old one should still get normal ios updates, so like if you take photos on your new one they will show up on the old one to as long as you use icloud

that use to be an issue but I think they fixed that, so it will let you know when you try and do it if either phone should update. It had something to do with restoring it once it was done from iCloud like I remember when it had to be a certain ios version or higher to work

Immediately after receiving my iPhone13 pro max, I began my original transfer but interrupted it because it was going to take several hours. A week has past and I haven't installed my SIM card yet, but have taken a bunch of photos (which are in the cloud and I can see from all devices). If you just log in to iCloud on your new phone it will automatically sync with iCloud pictures and they will just show up on your new phone.

a few things can affect this such as how much data that is being moved, the connection type, and the network conditions, try to start the process again by restarting the phones.

I would always update if you can because it just tends to work better, but unless it prompts you I don't think you will need to since you have iOS14

I checked about 5 videos, and yours was the best. I upgraded from an iPhone 7 to the 13, and there were no issues. The transfer operation seems pretty robust over WiFi, so backing up the old phone to iCloud may not be necessary, for those in a hurry.

@@jessicale65 Yes. My iPhone 7 was pretty full. I don't think you need to do the "backup to the iCloud" step. Even after the transfer operation my old iPhone 7 works fine ... except that I can't make phone calls on it, because the SIM card is in the iPhone 13. Don't erase the data on your old phone (unless you have to turn it in). It's a perfectly good camera, music player, KZbin video player, etc.

Here's the thing.... It will save some passwords BUT because your transferring to a new DEVICE it will prompt for some of them... I know it's annoying but it's a security thing and it makes sense that it would be that way. Because your apple account never knows when you buy a new phone until you set it up and verify it which is good because you don't want just anyone connecting new devices to your account and having all the passwords all transferred over, it's just one of those things...

It really is! and thanks for the comment! please be sure to hit the like button and share this video with everyone! it's easy to do it and free! if your trading your old phone then you wanna make sure you Remove your personal information from your old device, sign out of iCloud and the iTunes & app store then go back to settings and tap general reset erase all content and settings. If you turned on find my device you might need to enter your Apple ID and password. If your device uses an eSIM, choose the option to erase your device and the eSIM profile when asked. I would also log into iCloud and make sure your remove your old phone from your list of trusted devices so activation lock is turned off

you can always try it again or start over, but if you new phone is booted to the home screen you can always reset it and it will go back to the hello screen and you could do this video all over again

log out of icloud on your old iphone and then you can factory reset it. It won't affect your new one

that's exactly the one I use and yes this works better using iCloud because everything obviously will sync much easier but this should work perfect for you because that's what I have. Just check in your iPhone settings under your iCloud settings and make sure you choose what you want to back up like you can turn on imessages and a bunch more stuff to sync to iCloud,

I have an IPhone 11 so only show the resets option however I did follow every step of your tutorial ( BTW Very helpful 😀) as soon as the two phones are together the options for scan the access to the new IPhone 13 appears. Hi Jamie, I’ll truly appreciate it if I can get a response to my question. I wanna know specifically with WhatsApp since you mentioned it. Do you get all your messages back and also DOES IT SKIP THE STAGE WHERE IT HAS TO SEND YOU A VERIFICATION CODE ALL OVER AGAIN? This is because I’m unable to recover my sim and I’m still using WhatsApp on an old iPhone. I wanna know if the transfer would have all my messages and not ask me to verify before I take this huge step. Thank you. Awaiting your response :)

The only reason that I can think that it might ask you for a verification code is because you’re actually transferring to a new device and sometimes it will realize it’s a new device and the prompt you for a verification code in reality that’s actually to protect you and your data that’s why they do it to make sure it’s you logging in so it might prompt you because you have a new device

@@bossbaby953 Hahaha Ik! It’s been 7 months satisfaction 😀. It worked WITHOUT sending/requesting for a verification code. It totally skipped that step and I love WhatsApp or should I say Apple for that. I’m still till this day using that WhatsApp on my new phone. :)

Hey Jamie, got a question. Iphone 8 to transfer to 12, now there was a 6 nearby, flashed up with the transfer window..went to airplane mode with the 6 not to be in the way..the 8 doesn’t come up with the screen at all. Rebooted both, played with the buttons, no avail. Thoughts?

yes you can do that, I would be sure to log out of iCloud on your old phone and and do a reset on it like erase all data and let him set it up for himself then

it should transfer everything over and already have you logged in to the new phone, I did this again recently and that's how it went for me, but as apple updates procedures that can change things

It might but jumping from that iPhone to the 13 I would call my carrier and have them send you a new up to date one so it's 100% compatible with all the new networks

anything you paid for will be available for you to re-download on your new phone in case it don't transfer over, you should never have to pay two times for any of that stuff, it should always remain in your account

yes to do this method you would have to reset your new phone and then you could try the video, or since you already have your new one set up you could just try and backup your old one with all your stuff on it to iCloud, because then that stuff should sync to your new phone if you use iCloud

best thing to do is backup your old phone first to the icloud and then whatever you have saved in icloud that will restore to your new phone

Thank you for your video, it looked very easy but unfortunately it did not work for me. I seem to be stuck on the first step - it tells me the icloud back up could not be completed - I followed the instructions in the video for the extra icloud storage and it seemed to work but got stuck on 5% and then said it could not completed. I tried transferring data anyway to the new phone but it does not work. Any advice you can offer would be appreciated, thank you

go into your phone settings and go general then software up date and see if you have any updates, try to do it if it has one, then try the process again. That might help

@@jamiewagner thank you. Unfortunately nothing worked but I managed to eventually transfer most things the long way after deleting a lot of photos; the icloud storage was the problem and even when I followed your instructions, for some reason it did not allow me to access the extra storage.
