I broke both calcaneus 9 months ago. One required surgery. I was in a wheelchair for 8 weeks and my ankle which required surgery was in a boot/ cast cast 3.5 months. The muscle atrophy was unreal. six months out the boot, my leg is slowly gaining strength in both the calf and quad which still have significantly less volume than the leg which was in a boot for only six weeks. My rehab on leg continues - if slower than I had thought.

Had a distal fib fracture with a plate and screws. 6 weeks nwb. Doc said 1-2 weeks in the boot fwb. I ditched the crutches straight away and the boot after 1.5 weeks because it was just keeping my ankle stiff and swollen. I think once fwb the sooner you can exit the boot the better imo

I just got my cast removed. Having worn a cast for so long with a stirrup has caused my hip and back to be out of alignment, so now I need to restore good back posture as well as work on flexibility of my foot and leg. My foot has been flexed and the ligaments have been contracted for so long that it is painful trying to stretch out my foot and knee. This will take time to work it out gradually.

Grade 3 distal tibia stress response with involvement of medial malleolus. 9 weeks with the boot on and still having pain and swelling. No rehabilitation plan, nothing whatsoever. I started to see a Physio privately last week, to try and fix me. I'm a Tango dancer and a sporty person but I wonder how long all this will take to disappear...

I fractured my fibula 6 weeks go - im in a boot and am about to begin weight bearing walking with the boot on for the the next 6 weeks (recommended by my doc) I play ulti directional sports and am very nervous about the tendon recovery from being immobilized. I like how you mentioned to have a plan/strategy for increased movement daily/weekly/monthly until back in the sports I love. Do you have any charts you've created with reasonable ranges for movements?

Im healing from a climbing injury that affected my ankle (specifically the motion of standing on your toes and stretching my foot downward). Ive been in the walking cast for 2 months. What exercises would you recommend once im out of the cast?
@m.taylor8 ай бұрын
I just had my cast removed, and the Doc did not give any instructions on "how" to gradually start walking again. The ligaments and muscles in my foot, knee and ankle are very stiff and hurts from having it casted in one position for a while as well as from carrying the weight of the cast. So I am going to start by slowly stretching my foot, knee and ankle to restore flexibility and release the stiffness. Having flexibility is the key to balance and stability of the foot. Then afterwards, I think I will gradually do weight bearing on the foot using my crutches or a cane as support.

@@m.taylorhow's your recovery? I'm so scared to walk 😢
@m.taylor6 ай бұрын
@@ccMomOfJays My fracture did not heal in a good alignment so I am walking with a slight limp and chronic pain in my foot. The stiffness will last a while. I was doing flexibility exercises hourly each day. If it is a fracture you have and the doc says you can start walking, do it gradually. I would avoid rigorous sports or jumping for at least a year. For the ankle/foot stiffness, there are 4-way flexing exercises shown on KZbin. Start with them before you try walking, because the muscles will be weak and need strengthening. I hope your recovery goes smoothly! 🙏🙏

I sprained my ankle and broke my foot fourteen weeks ago. The bone is healed, but the MRI still showed a sprain. I am transitioning out of the boot. However, enter the complication. He believes I may have acquired CRPS. I have been referred to physical therapy and a pain specialist. I wasn’t able to get into physical therapy for a full month and the pain specialist can’t get me in for two months. I’ve been told that I have to get moving because of the CRPS or I won’t be able to move. The fear and pain are intense. How do I transition in this interim before pt and the pain specialist. What can I do to improve?

For those specifically will malleolus fractures who have had ORIF surgery - PLEASE google early weight bearing vs delayed weight bearing. Your surgeon is wrong, and is completely ignoring the published science. Science states that post ORIF for ankle surgery that early weight bearing is safe and as the video states, avoids all the issues you have by delaying weight bearing. Do the research, the published papers can be a tad confusing but they all offer summaries. Take it to your surgeon and ask why you're delayed - why you're in a cast 6-8 weeks, etc. It's wrong.
@macfady21814 ай бұрын
I had a Weber B fracture that required ORIF. Cast four 4.5 wks, no cast for a week, then at 5.5 wks, the surgeon said just start 25% weight bearing and add more each week as tolerated. I was nervous at the time not going into a boot, but it has been going great this last week, and physio has started.
