Hello doc! Just want to ask you this and I hope tou can help me. I’m just confused what is the best splint or foot support for my condition: I had a foot surgery after a glass ruptured my extensor tendon in my right foot. Right now I can’t walk been a month already and it hurts a little when i try to move my toes.. It kinda looks like drop foot now and i still have my wound but its healing..So what’s the best type of aplints for me? Please doc help me. I feel like I need a splint or support for my foot to bear no weight so my tendons would heal faster. My doc didnt advise me anything like that after my surgery 😭

I had the boots on for abt 7 weeks. I used a couple kitchen towels/papers to line the part where the foot goes and baby powered the heck out of my foot and calves. Then change the towels + wetwipe my foot at least once a day! That prevents the gross smells and dead skin build ups.

Thank you! This video made me laugh and also provided some great points! I didn't think about an insert! I fell from 25 feet and broke/fractured both ankles amongst multiple other injuries. Fortunately, the right wasn't as bad as the left. I had an ORIF performed to secure the calcaneus and talus, but my navicular bone is still angry at me so I'll have to go in for more repairing. I bought a short boot at first and wore that until my surgeon recommended the tall. Since I've swapped, my ankle feels much more stable and the air pocket is fabulous for sustaining the position of my leg and foot. Although some say it seems terrifying to wear a compression sock, it's been quite helpful and comfy since the increase in swelling after my pin removal. What a huge difference! Not only with the swelling, but also with the inside of the boot getting funky. Yuck. My knee scooter has been great but I'm wondering if I should wear the boot with the iWalk?! Balancing on it makes me really nervous! Thank you again for sharing your knowledge! Here's to another surgery or two....... and then RECOVERING! :)

I just got home with a boot over a broken ankle. I got a rushed, two minute explanation of its use at the clinic and came home with questions. You just simulated the clinics job for them, thank you so much. I especially liked the idea of using my much needed expensive inserts i use in my Asics running shoes which won't be running any time soon lol, that certainly would help this boot mold itself around my injury really well and help stabilize the fracture. Thank you very much for thinking out loud on video about boot ideas my friend.

I'm on week 9 of no weight baring, I'm no weight baring for 10 weeks total. Had a tri-fracture with dislocated ankle. Wore a cast for 6 weeks now in a air cast. I have found that I can't wear a compression sock as where the hardware had to go its pretty darn sore still. I found some super super soft mid calf socks that are kind of thick for that cushiony feel. It's 100° here but I don't care because my foot says thank you!! I can take my leg out of the air cast as much as I want just as long as I'm laying down and no one comes near it. 😁

I have the same trimaleolar break with dislocation. Took three weeks to get in for surgery. Half cast for 18 days, x-ray’s and told doing amazing and into a boot. The boot, I believe is too narrow at the ankle. It hurts like the dickens. So much that I can not sleep at night for constantly removing and replacing boot. Is it supposed to hurt this much at the ankle? I have scrawny ankles according to the doctor that first checked me. If it’s supposed to be snug but comfortable I think mine is ill fitting. Please weight in Doc.
@karenpaul4940 Жыл бұрын
@Bunny Toes that definitely doesn't sound right. I had my surgery within 24 hours of the injury, then half cast for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks my staples were removed, and I was given a hard cast for 4 weeks. The cast absolutely should be snug and comfortable, although there's obviously no guarantee of no pain. I had my hard cast removed 3 days ago (so 6 weeks after the accident), and now in a boot for 4 weeks, and I feel I've really turned a corner. Not a doctor, but it sounds like you were put in a boot far too soon. I would be asking for some further consultation

Loved the video. I thought I had a bad sprain but after MRI and x-ray doc said I needed surgery. I've been running around with a broken ankle. Seemed not too bad since it was just a tiny piece. But after they got in for surgery they said piece had broken off when tendon tore. They did this fix on inside of ankle, outside breaks were healed. They also removed a spur on the top of ankle from another break. I have weak rolling ankles they said. But the worst was they had to do a stress test before surgery was done. That's when they discovered torn tendons on the outside of my ankle that required them to drill holes in my other bones to string up the tendons. After 4 weeks no. I've been in a tall boot, a bit different from yours with 4 straps. Weight bearing I might get to test 50% weight but loved the compression sock idea, just hurts too much yet to get it on. Still trying to wrap an ace bandage to help with swelling but cushion sock is working great with all this. I love the knee scooter in your video, this is actually the only time my ankle doesn't hurt when I can move quickly! Thanks again.

If your calf is too big for the tall boot, you can put a tall pot of water on the stove on low. Heat the water to between 150 and 190 Fahrenheit. (Use a meat thermometer) Take the liner out and the top strap off. Immerse the boot upside down into the pot for about a minute. Take it out and stretch it with your hands. I measured mine across before I immersed it and then afterwards. I just needed about a half an inch more. Fits great now. You do not need the water any higher. You can just hold the boot in the water but it didn’t hurt mine to set it in there on my electric stove. My stove was at about 1.8 of 10 heat setting. Good luck

Very helpful tips. I'm in the pneumatic Aircast long boot for chronic tendonitis. I am having 2 problems: 1) leveling my hips. Bought a Even -up accessory, and it helped, but the hips are not quite level. 2) shin pain. I placed some socks on the shin, which is helping, but I noticed my leg sliding forward when walking. That seems to be the source of the shin pain. Not sure what else I can do. Any suggestions are definitely appreciated!

Wash was successful but now I'm not sure how to put the foam foot pad back on the liner. I'm left with this bundle of liner at the heel which is super uncomfortable for him. thanks ; my podiatrist just put the boot on me, told me leave it on as much as possible, including to bed. Did not mention anything about the air pumping situation. * it is the shorter boot, not the style you used here. I am one of the "old ladies" who can't tolerate the tall boot. I have RA & OA on top of it and lots of arthritis in my feet (those bones on top mostly) , a bone spur and now Achilles tendonitis . Have to walk my dog 3 times a day for his call to nature. The struggle is real. Although I really do love my foot doctor , he gave me no other instructions. I had to google to find out what the big red bladder button even is. It should be mentioned that people should get themselves a leveler for the other foot/shoe. I am now trying to determine which insert(s) to use on the leveler b/c mine has 3 choices. 🙄but then as I was leaving , he said "are you driving?" and I said yes and he told me well you can't wear then, you have to take it off.

Looking at different videos to get answers to the following questions (have left ankle fracture on left foot and have a short boot): 1) Am I supposed to wear it at night while I sleep or take it off or is it a decision my doctor and I are supposed to make? 2) Am I supposed to avoid taking showers so it is left on? 3) It is designed for walking in, but can I do outdoor tasks in it like cut the grass and other yardwork? 4) Still some confusion as to whether I was supposed to get the tall boot or short boot - different people/professionals say different things. Any comment on this?

From own experience. 2018 i had tibiaplateu fracture, my muscles are still weak till this day. 3 months ago i had a talus fracture. First week i had a casket, then i tried the boot for 1 week. In my case , the boot is so much heavier than a casket and did more bad than good. My knee started to hurt due the weight of the boot. So I changed to casket after 1 week in the boot. So a total of 1 week boot , 7 weeks casket. If you are NWB than my sugestion is casket. I think the boot is pretty worthless. Who cares about if your leg isnt able to shower and clean? Ofc its diffrent for everyone depending on the injury. I didnt need surgery for mine.

Thanks for the advice. I just got the short boot to stabilize my ankle and foot.. got some paroneal tendonosis nonsense going on. Ordered it off Amazon and some Febreeze too. Good tip about the socks. Ill try it with my compression socks and my custom orthotics. Im getting a CT guided steroid injection into the tendon sheath in about a month... my goal is to visit the doctor that day already pain free or low in pain.. and hoping the steroids will only help further my chance at avoiding surgery. Been a 6 month journey for me so far to get to this point. Without an MRI I have no idea how bad off I'd be right now.

I drive just fine, in fact probably better than 70% of the drivers out there. Lol.🤣 But then, I used to be a professional truck driver. Just be more alert and driving should be ok. But if you're not comfortable and confident, don't do it.

Thanks for the cool video. So, is it ok to walk on a broken ankle with this boot? I thought my orthopedic surgeon said that even with the boot, I shouldn't walk on it. I'm a bit confused. Thanks again.
@DrTomBiernacki2 жыл бұрын
A boot serves to stabilize and reduce pressure, but it is not ever 100%. I personally judge the body weight/ability to maneuver vs how bad/healed the break is. On average a healthy person can put a little bit of weight, but a heavy unstable person should probably put minimal to no weight onto it. And this all depends on the severity of the break as well.

Drs: I used to have a lot of pain with my boot (hinflable) like a month with the pain, in my clinic SANITAS medical center in Miami they gave me the boot but no paper instructions and a they only spoke few indications. The consequence Was I did not inserted the boot on the proper manner i don’t even know I have to used red ball to hinflate the boot. The boot wasn’t tight properly to my foot during in a month . I went to orthopedic and they showed me how to hinflated the boot ….but I inserted my boot hinflated and I did not insert the brackets and the pain continue, when At 5 weeks I decided to watch videos and I realized the process I used to do wasn’t right either and today after almost 7 weeks I know how to put my boot and I think the wrong manner to insert the boot affect my fracture. My ct scan is in 15 days and let see how wrong is my ankle after all this.
