Thank you Melissa for this great advice. I have an additional tip. My experience has been more as a companion for same day surgery events. Often there are several prescriptions that the Dr gives after the surgery right before you are released, usually at least one for pain, sometimes one for nausea, etc. Then what do you do? Do you go to a drive through pharmacy with your companion? That's going to be at least a half hour wait, depending on the time of day. Meanwhile you are feeling icky in the passenger seat and not headed home. Do you have your companion take you home and tuck you in first, then make a trip to the pharmacy for you? That only works well if there is a third person to keep you company, or if everyone is comfortable leaving you unattended (in pain and nauseated). Now it's going to be at least an hour after your release before you get the pain meds in your hands. I suggest asking the Dr for the prescriptions in advance during your pre-op visit. That way you can have the pain meds in your possession before you even begin the travel home from the surgery center. If the Dr (for whatever reason) isn't comfortable writing the prescription before the big day, try to secure the prescription right before the surgery. Then your companion can at least drop off the prescription at a nearby pharmacy while you are in surgery.

I like window seats but what would be your recommendation?
