Good for you! I am a weightlifter, so power is not the issue - I think for me it comes down to efficiency; I am expending WAY more energy than I should to accomplish what I am doing - comes from being afraid of the water. I have to learn to relax and let the water hold me, not fight against it. Sometimes I want to quit, but I have to just keep with it. Congrats on your progress!

I’ve always known that something was off about my egg beater because I just never seemed to get enough power for the amount of work put into it. Now I know it was because I was doing the breaststroke kick! Can’t wait to get in the water and try this. Thank you!

+Alex N -- I agree. It may be "the most efficient" once you learn how, and have done it often enough not to get cramps in your hip muscles, but until then it's tough! (I was just "taught" this method today, but the teacher didn't go through the motions in detail, she just said "move your legs in circles like an egg beater" and then swam off to spend time with two younger guys. Thanks to this video I'll be able to practice it on my own now.)

I have developed an alternative to this technique, which is an adaptation, it's basically the same thing but without the circular motion, you just kick downward by pushing the water beneath you sole. One other thing is that you must spread your legs, that way, you won't sink as easily as you're less streamlined. Treading water is basically the opposite of swimming since you're not supposed to be streamlined, if you are, you sink, especially if you don't move. That's why the flutter kick and breast stroke kick aren't as efficient as this one. With flutter kick, you are kicking with a straight body,with breaststroke, you pause between eau kick and you sink after each one. With this one, you're basically sitting in the water, you create much more drag. Try sitting it the water, you'll see that you won't sink as easily as staying straight like stick. Remember, this is an adaptation, it is meant to be use as a survival technique or a temporary one until you learn the official eggbeater as it is I believe the most efficient one. Less effort and there's no wasted movements. I'm currently transitioning to it at the moment now that I'm used treading water in the deep end of the pool.

I've been trying to tread with all kinds of legs moving but no chance of float. First, I put my left knee to the left n right to the right and pushed down the water. I started kicking both legs to the front, n even all this post said. I really have no idea of how to tread in water. I can swim but I really cant tread. Pls help
@thaik5610 жыл бұрын
Hongty Lay What matters is also to be able to relax. if you're tensed, you'll probably sink. Don't focus on the fact that you might sink, believe that you can float and your body will naturally relax and with the kicking motion, you'll be able to stay afloat and leveled. Even when I first learned the technique and I practiced it again, because I wasn't as confident, I tend to sink too even if I got the technique right, because I was still afraid of sinking. Also, kick the water downward, feel the water at the sole of your feet while doing it. The way I do it is that I kick downward and a bit to the side too. You can also use your arms. Don't focus too much on the technique at first, do whatever is necessary to keep yourself afloat. Swimming is about relaxing and feeling the water, no matter how good you're following the technique, it's no good if you can't even float, I think we can all relate to that when we first started swimming. You could also try the breaststroke kick, works pretty well and use your arms and hands as well.

Can i ask you something, kick downward and outward, which kick, left downward and right.outward, its that what i mean..
@hongtylay183310 жыл бұрын
Thank u thaik for advice! I recently can have my back floated when I relax as u told, but it seems that I am very at first when I toke a long air into lung and when I use all the air, my body sink a little more n more.I think i can float cos air in my body n i always try to put my neck down as much as i can. However normal float or tread water in this video I can't do it yet. I'm very patient, I tried by take a long breathe and relax as much as I can to survive, but I can only float at first. a few secs later, my body goes phut.
@thaik5610 жыл бұрын
akam0707 I have to say that my technique since I have written it here, imagine that you are climbing a wall. With you legs spread out, bend your knees one leg at a time and kick towards the bottom by stretching you leg entirely, that's the technique I use, but with time, to save more energy, you don't have to unfold you leg completely, just focus on pushing the water downward. Don't forget that this isn't the ultimate technique to float vertically, the egg beater is still the most efficient one I believe, even I am starting to transition my technique to it. But for now, what matters is to learn how to stay afloat, advanced technique will come later when you're at ease in deep water. Also, don't forget that this "pseudo-eggbeater" has to be done like the original one, in a sitting position.

Complicated, efficient, powerful.. if you have a need for this kick- swim instructor, waterpolo, professional rescuer.. Learn it. Keep trying.. If your breaststroke kick is proper AND very productive, you can do it right now.. You must be honest about your breaststroke kick.. There’s so much more to the eggbeater than this knowledge. Keep at it..

Does this rlly work? I keep on sinking in my swimming class, I'm in level 9
@EricLing6410 жыл бұрын
It does, though it takes a bit of practice. But it's really meant for water polo or more active water activities. If you get the hang of it you'll be able to get your chest out of the water so you can use your hands to do whatever you're doing high and dry, in water polo this means being able to shoot or pass the ball around without water resistance, or for goalies reaching high and far to block it. If you don't need that much buoyancy just stick with the regular methods.

Can you please let me know if we need to hold our breath while treading?
@danstheman336 ай бұрын
No you don't. The whole point of treading water is that you can breath, talk, see above the water etc. If you're going to hold your breath, there's no point of treading water. You can actually float face-down in the water in between breaths asxan alternate to treading water the whole time, and it uses a lot less energy.

@user-eg4jx5em6v8 жыл бұрын
that is false. some people are negatively buoyant
@tipoomaster8 жыл бұрын
Children often are, but most adults with fully extended lungs are at least neutrally buoyant, not negatively. Most adult humans have a relative density of 0.98 to the water.
