****DISCLAIMER: This video is an introduction to symptoms and behaviors that families often see in loved ones or people they are close to. This video does not replace clinical advice and is not a personalized video of BPD. This is a very general view of the symptoms of BPD and some of the associated symptoms that specific groups or individuals may experience. Everyone experiences BPD differently and the intensity of the disorder varies by individual.
========================================================
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a complicated disorder. It is characterized by a host of behaviors and emotions discussed in this video. It is a long and pervasive part of an individual. It isn't a mental illness where medication or therapy can heal it. In fact, BPD is just the opposite.
Therapy and medication are often ineffective if not appropriate. And years of therapy may be needed (including medication) to help the individual find some stability in their life. This is the good part.
However, there is a downside.
Individuals with BPD who are very unaware of how they influence others, particularly their families, and the environment around them. I have spoken to people nationally and internationally who have struggled with loved ones, coworkers, or friends who have BPD and it is difficult for them to understand some of the risky and emotionally driven behaviors they may observe.
In this video, I will discuss (in practical terminology) what you (as someone who is in relationship with someone with BPD) can do to deal more effectively with someone who has BPD. I give you a few tips in this video for setting boundaries.
