Great job, I've always told my friends the best way to do a mount, is to be very thorough. You did just that. Awsome job. 👍🏼👍🏼

Came out badass! Might have to edit my tripletail gyotaku video and see who done it better 👀. I conceded the mount competition.

It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, but it took a lot of patience and I learned I need some extra strength peroxide

Nice job man! I used to do alot of taxidermy work. I would use 40% peroxide from the beauty supply place. Just brush it on after the initial cleaning and the meat is off, and set it in the sun for 2-3 hrs. It produces a great white color. You can always air brush it too. Great job though!

Keep the water warm with dish soap so the oil comes out of the bones. I’ve done about 14 of these now and found the warmer water helps speed up the process by a few weeks

Beautiful work Would it be ok if you paint it all white ?

I think it would be fine but you would lose the bone detail. It’s been almost a year and it is still very white

I'm also doing a snapper head, I'm trying to get the oils out at the moment, whet percent hidrogen peroxide did you use?
@LightningCapitalLiving11 ай бұрын
@@jackbower7732 let it soak in Dawn soap until they’re almost off white and let that oil release. You can then use 12% hydrogen peroxide for 24 hrs and it should be white
@bellwethertrucking3650 Жыл бұрын
If someone were to do this a lot, it would be very beneficial to keep at least one colony of dermestid beetles. They'll make sure there's no meat left on those bones. A lot of bone hobbyists use them.
@LightningCapitalLiving Жыл бұрын
Initially I didn’t think it was worth the investment since I only get to do one of these every couple of months. If things pick up and I start doing one a month I 100% agree they would be well worth it versus all the soaking I’ve had to do to get everything clean.

The taxidermy groups talk about better chemicals to use to draw the oil out. It's used in blueprints. ammonia hydroxide.
@LightningCapitalLiving Жыл бұрын
Thank you for that. I’ve had some fish be much more of a challenge than others. Currently working on a blue marlin bill from hawaii but that’s been pretty easy so far since it’s solid bone
@opuntina Жыл бұрын
@@LightningCapitalLiving Nice. I am looking to do a euro mount of a black bear I took last fall and they are notoriously greasy so that's how I found that info. That marlin bill should be pretty cool when done.
