How to Troll the FLORIDA KEYS PATCH REEFS Shallow water trolling Basics & Tactics

In this short seminar I go over in detail what I consider to be the most productive method for fishing in the Florida Keys patch reefs, trolling. I cover the basics & tactics of how, when, where and why trolling the patch reefs can be exciting, fun, challenging and ultra effective when it comes to getting into the bite with some of your most desired fish. I also give you the skinny on what are the best lures and gear to use when you head out to these reefs to do some shallow water trolling. Then we head out on the boat for some hands-on demonstrations of how great trolling the patch reefs can be.

Interesting tactic, I mean I've definitely heard of trolling for reef pelagics like yellow jacks, cero mack, spanish mack, etc. But for mutton snapper, I would never think to do that, but you have definitely proven this technique can be productive.

We have found a variety of shallow water lipped plugs like the Rapala does well in addition to the white buck tail jigs over the patch reefs throughout the fall and winter months. Hi Mickey, thanks for stopping by and take your time out of your life watch enjoy the show. I love having to fish later on boat with me. He has his silly moments and then again when it's time to put the heat on he goes into overdrive. Florida keys can be a little tricky if you don't know a little bit about the protected areas and other regulations where you just can and can't go and what you can do. But once you have a good understanding of markers and buoys and what not it's not too bad. All the kids say "Hi Mickey". Everyone is doing good here had a couple of busy weekends of not going down to the keys but that'll change here soon, got to take care of responsibilities on the home front first. I'm on the shallow reach like this I let my long line out about 75 ft in the Short line is out only about 50 ft just be on the whitewash of the boat. If you let your line out too far when the big fish hit they go straight for the rocks and that's when you lose them. And they're even better eating at the dinner table. The light fishing gear makes it all that much more fun and sporting. And yes it was a great day out with my son he's a beast. And a good luck charm we always seem to bring home dinner when he's on the boat. Then one day I was filming and I had acquired the second camera and I came up with an idea of it needing to be mobile yet how to utilize my extra rod holders. Going to Islamorada 1st week of June. Staying across the street from Robbie’s. Have a boat rented for the week. I plan to head offshore a time or 2 but very interested in patch reef fishing now. Any suggestions for the first week of June and would you use a steel leader with the Clark spoon? Appreciate any advice you could give thank you.

Summertime patch reef fishing is tough. Lots of cudas. Yes Clark spoon with 40 lb wire leader. Out of islamorada... I'd head offshore looking for mahi... You've also got the humps out there that hold tons of pelagics.

And traveling through the Creeks to get out to the ocean isn't as bad as it may seem. I've been doing it since I was young however if you take the route a few times you learn it also your GPS shows you the way.
