Question. On the Mutton rig when drifting, do you let the sinker get to the bottom? One of the best videos I’ve seen out there. Thanks, can’t to try tomorrow.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing4 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for watching and asking an excellent question. The answer is yes. You'll want to keep letting line out no matter what until you feel the bite. Your sinker will hit the sea bed but it will be about triple the distance of your leader away from your terminal tackle, which is what you want. Thanks for the positive feedback, I truly appreciate it. Good luck & tight lines :)

Caught my first mutton last week with a live threadfin... Question, is threadfins ( live ) better than a dead sardine ? Also, i noticed you use a J hook vs circle hook.. Any reason ? Would a circle hook of 5 or 6 work ?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and asking some great questions. Threadfins are excellent bait... I talk about sardines because that's what I have most luck with and I don't have to worry about it dying. Hooks to me are a personal choice. The only times I stick with circles are when I'm deep dropping or shark fishing. Also, trolling with circle hooks doesn't work reall well. Great to hear from you. Hope this helps. Tight lines & take care PS. Congrats on the mutton 😃

Hi, in the no-name knot when you pass the tag back thru the loop, is that the spider hitch loop?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. The answer is yes, you are passing the tag end back through the loop created by the spider hitch and the leader... Hi Heath! Thanks again for a very informative video! Question for you,, which of the two rigs would you use while drifting and how much more weight? Thanks bud.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing4 жыл бұрын
When I'm drifting i typically use the mutton rig... Utilizing a 1 ounce sinker and a 25 foot leader when I'm over a wreck about 150 foot of water... In shallower i will downsize the sinker to 1/2 or 3/8 ounce. Thanks for watching... I really appreciate it. Good luck & tight lines :)

Can you do one on Big Mangrove snapper ? I fish off from Miami out on a drifting charter
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing4 жыл бұрын
"How to catch mangrove snapper" is definitely on my list of seminars to produce. Lots of time on a drift boat you are at the mercy of the captain and where they want to fish. I will say this, when I'm over a shallow reef drifting, i would use a 1/4 ounce knocker if targeting snapper. I spent a lot of time on drift boats heading out of Pompano Beach, The Helen S, and Fish City Pride... I learned some of the most valuable fishing tactics from those boats (especially FCP). Take Care :)

South Florida Saltwater Fishing same sardines for bait? I feel the offshore mangroves are harder to target
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing4 жыл бұрын
@@saltydreadlock438 Definitely same bait... I use sardines or silversides... You are correct.. Offshore mangroves are definitely more elusive. The inshore, bay and grassy area ones are way easier to target. Chum them up, but, I find those areas produce quite a few dinks compared to the offshore ones. Good luck and tight lines :)

Hi, l'm from the Caribbean Coast of Honduras and here Mutton Snappers do migrate, l'm not sure if it's for mating or what, but right after the first cold front during Octoberish they congregate by the millions and swim down from the Belize keys down to the Honduran coast, then move east through the coast and then head back up to the Bay Islands and then I guess they go back north. They fish them by the hundreds for 4-5 days a year. After that you can get the occasional 1 or 2
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing4 жыл бұрын
Wow. Thanks a million for watching and sharing that stellar info. Those 4 or 5 days must be awesome. That definitely sounds like a mating pattern, but regardless, it's a migration. Here off the Florida coast, they are non-transient... It's great to hear different pattern of fish behavior from all over the world, see the similarities and differences, even though it's the same fish. Thanks again. Happy holidays. Tight lines & take care ;))))

Heath, another question, being that fluorocarbon is very expensive, do you think I could use standard mono for the 30ft leader then spider hitch and no-name knot a piece of flouro to that?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary... Of course you can use mono instead of fluoro. I would shy away from the colored mono though and stick with either pink or clear mono if you're going with that. Reds and pinks are the first colors that disappear as approach 20 - 30 feet below the surface. Thanks for asking a great question. Good luck & tight lines :)

Is there a reason why you are not using braided line on your reels?
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing2 ай бұрын
I use braid only when it's needed for specific types of fishing such as... Planer trolling, deep dropping, or jigging... Other than that a mono main line helps with the stealth factor and setting the hook properly

Is there a specific reason you choose a octopus style hook and for not Snelling the hook
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. The answer is yes there's a reason... Octopus style hooks have a relentless knack for hook setting rather than just a plain j-hook. the bent back shank pivots on the knot assisting the fish to set the hook rather than the angler. Thanks for asking... never really had to explain that to anyone before. Hope my answer clarifies it for you. Tight lines & take care :)

Why is it you din't moisten your knots when tightening them down? I was always taught that without some sort of lubricant (some saliva) the tightening process would generate heat which could damage the mono or fluro.
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and asking a very important question. To answer your question properly, I have to tell you, I've tied hundreds of thousands of clinch knots in my life. Line warping is the damage your are referring to and it does occur from heat. However, lubrication is not always the answer. I have learned over the years, how many times i can wrap the tag end around the main line, depending on pound test and line composition, without warping the line. for example, 20 lb fluoro I'll wrap 6 times, 12 lb mono I'll wrap 7 times, but 40 lb mono & 30 lb fluoro I'll wrap 5 times. I've learned through many failures. Hope this answers your question. Take care & tight lines :)
