This guide is so good cos it isn’t just saying “put your gears at this setting” it explains why and how to do it. Great vid.
@blueangels1114 жыл бұрын
Exactly, its the same issue I have with a lot of teachers. They teach you what to do but not why it happens, so you can't improvise. Lets take an auto class for example. They teach you how to change brake fluid using this tool that stops air, and then where to insert it. But this tool is $200. However, if you were taught why, you could figure out alternatives, such as a random plastic bottle, some brake fluid, and a tube. Boom, 5 bucks. Also, things like math, some equations just don't work with people but they don't know any way to do it. I had one amazing teacher that finally explained in a way where I could make different formulas that made sense to me and I could do. Now so many people just say "do this and you're done" and its infuriatingly useless

@@blueangels111 Yep, I’ve always stood by your opinion as it teaches you a lot more on how things make sense or work in life as opposed to telling somebody how it is. 99% of the time there’s a solution to why something works that isn’t too complicated to explain. Teacher’s really don’t understand this and that’s why people don’t always succeed in school since it’s goes back to memorizing something over actually learning how it fundamentally works.

I am so late but I want to thank you so much for your guides. I am a young person and I don’t have a car / never worked on a car. So I didn’t know about how these tuning windows work until I watched your guides. I am really grateful. Looking forward to the drifting one. I mainly use FH4 as a massive gymkhana playground 😂 Could you also add a drift tune formula like the one you did in the R34 - I found that endlessly helpful across my whole garage. The only car that I found it to be ineffective on is the mod-maxed RWD V8 T/T Sierra RS500. That thing is such an animal it needed a much more agressive tune. But your formula was still a good starting point, even on that.

@Xmoto165 жыл бұрын
Imo gearing is probably the easiest and first thing you should do to a car. Some cars have really short or long and when you fix it the car dynamic changes so much. For example a stock brz is considered slow. Change it to 5.0 final drive and it accelerates very strong. You can tune each gear to get that perfect power delivery. Good job hoki!

Couple things about the shift point. Depending on the shape of the powerband (symmetrical, steep on the bottom or steep on the top) you more or less want the same amount of power before and after shift. So for example, if you're putting down 350 at shift and 350 in the next gear. Then drive up to 375 peak then back down to 350. This is the highest average HP and will beat the same car that isn't geared like this. Otherwise you go from 375 to 350, shift, 375 to 350, and it's less overall. When you shift from 350hp to 350hp it also doesn't unsettle the car as much, so it's easier to shift in circumstances you normally shouldn't, like mid turn or mid turn-exit. Second thing. Is you wanna balance that above, with this: after the torque peak, in a straight line perfect conditions, it is impossible to lose traction to the drive wheels. This is because torque at the wheel is decreasing instead of increasing. Many professional racers say to never drive below peak torque for this reason. And for that same reason, you want to make sure that the rpm you shift into is always above the torque peak.

One thing you should add, if you are fully in peak power, a shorter final drive won't help much, since the wheel torque gains don't increase accel that much compared to even fast shifting

It's important to mention that changing the final drive ratio will screw up the optimization that you did for the 1st gear launch. Also, ensure that your tires are *cold* when doing that optimization! This is the state your tires are in for the start of a race which is when it counts the most.
