Sir, the carburetor I have can't turn one turn, only one fourth of a turn. Why is that? Is it really like that? There is something like a red cover.@@helpinguonline

you made getting those caps off look waaayyyyyy too easy LOL followed this procedure today on a McCulloch backpack blower, with success thanks to you!! automatic subscribe!! quick question... can the return line be too long?! cut mine a bit shorter than the filtered line, and i dont want it to interfere. think i should shorten it?? sure is causing some commotion within the tank. thank you for your efforts and time!!
@helpinguonline

Return line only needs to stub into the tank maybe an extra half inch inside the tank

@@helpinguonline thank you sir!! snipped it before running the blower today, and created another problem in the process. the tank grommet became unseated, and with it being worn already, i was fighting it all day. couldnt maintain proper pressure, had erratic performance and the purge/return combo were dysfunctional. hopefully replacing it will get the blower running good again. God Bless you and thank you for your efforts towards helping the community!!

I got one for you. I own a STIHL BR380 blower. Even though it’s 11 years old the hours are low. I only use non ethanol gas and synthetic oil. Last week after full throttle use of about 30 minutes it lost power (rpm’s dropped). I took off the cruise control and it idles fine. Shut it off and it starts fine but will not rev up to high rpm. Once cold I start it up and it does the same thing. Only difference is it only takes 2 minutes to act up now. I have done the following. Cleaned the spark arrestor, replaced the spark plug, air filter, fuel filter, carburetor (OEM), ignition coil, and fuel lines. Compression is 127 (checked it right after it lost RPM). I also removed the filler cap thinking the vent was clogged. No change. I also removed the muffler to check the exhaust port for carbon buildup, none. Spark plug tip looks normal. I was leaning towards an air leak somewhere. Once RPM’s dropped I sprayed starter fluid into the intake and it still didn’t accelerate. It has me buffaloed. Any thoughts? I know I can buy a new one but the new ones like this are 2.5 lbs heavier and I’m like you, I want to find the problem. Sure would appreciate some help!

Did you check the piston and cylinder wall for scoring?

Not yet. Looks good (viewing through the intake and exhaust port). Thanks. I think it’s an air leak. From where I don’t know. Cylinder bolts are tight. If a crank seal was leaking wouldn’t I see mixture leaking out?

I would be surprised if your problem is an air leak?... If that is it can you adjust your fuel mix screws and compensate for the problem at full throttle? It is hard to say without looking at it. Please let us know what you discover.

Adjusting the high speed screw does not help. Thanks for the suggestion though.

someone else out there may have a suggestion for you... or maybe you know someone near you who could give you a second opinion. I have another mechanic friend of mine and we give each other stuff like that from time to time for a second opinion and often it is something simple that we checked and missed or overlooked. Let us know what you discover the problem was.
