I've been wanting to do something similar, but more quick-detach, and modular. My butt pack (where you have the SAW pouch) is an Austrian KAZ-75 butt pack/ chest pack. I've considered getting a second one to use as a haversack/ quick attach/detach mini ruck to use like you've done here, which could then go either into my large ALICE or strap to the outside of it. Of course, I've considered other packs for that use as well-- I have a Rothco copy of the M-56 (?) butt pack as well which might serve. My main idea is having different layers of packs, for use depending on my needs... Right now, if I'm just going a few hundred yards into the woods, I take my haversack (Finnish gas mask bag) and the Rothco butt pack packed with extra water, any extras, and my poncho+liner lashed to the bottom. For more extensive scouting and camping, I have my harness and belt rig, haversack, and the Rothco stays home (poncho roll goes into bottom of KAZ butt pack). For full outing, the ALICE he's on top of the harness, loaded with large tarp, wool blanket, extra food, cooking gear etc. I'm still trying to figure everything out and get it all put together, but my next change will likely be to switch the harness to the older H-style, which has attachments for a smaller mini ruck like you rigged here-- some Marines were issued a similar system during Nam, can't recall the name of the small ruck and all, but they're impossible to find and outrageously expensive if you do.

How much does that rig weigh when empty? The Army probably considers ruggedness over weight so that rig may be on the heavy side, looks great though. If I was facing a 20 mile trek, I'd what to shed as much weight as possible, light weight hiking gear is very expensive though.

i do believe this would work quite well with the flc that has the waistpack molle'd on, as it gives only about 10-15 inches of clearance for a backpack, i feel they should just make a rectangle shaped that sits with the long side horizontally to make room for waistpacks and buttpacks underneath

Here's how I'd do it.. Use 2 buttpacks. Attach one where your SAW pouch is, and hang the other one as you have in the video. More cargo space. Plus, you could rig the upper buttpack to the lower one's straps, to have a more secure load.
@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival7 жыл бұрын

cool!...when i was in we were issued adapter straps with our M1956 web gear....it worked basically the same except the rear suspender straps threaded through the adapter as well as the two horizontle webbing straps on the shoulders. The alice clips on the butt pack attached to a heavy canvas webbing located at the bottom of the adapter This kept the contraption from flopping around when running. here is a link: david.brubakers.us/Vietnam/ The M1967 web gear had an even simpler method of carrying the butt pack and did not require an adapter. The problem i encountered back then was, unless your ammo pouches were full and if you were not carrying frags or smoke, then the front of the web gear would ride to high no matter where i positioned the hooks of my front suspenders . I reckon it works ok as long as you balance your load well...atb...woods
