Nice and simple way to create the neon tubing. For the shading, would there be an easy way to make the light fall off to transparent, like the ionized gas does inside a real neon tube? Rather than having a sharp falloff. I'm thinking in terms of using a colormap node in the emission shader to fade the edges to transparency. Or a volume with an emission shader would be realistic, but processor intensive.

If you choose all of your curves and hold alt while changing the values, it will change across all of them and not just the active object. You can also right click on the parameter and press "copy to selected"

Easier than manually selecting edges: While still a text object, in text properties set Fill Mode to None.

Great tip - I had it on wrong view so couldn't see the edges after converting the "None filled" text to a mesh (as it was black on black), but in the Solid Mode, it showed up fine, and had no edge selection / inverting to do. Saves tons of time on larger words you may be making into neons

at 28:23 it doesnt give me the option to convert to mesh, why is that>???

Noob question, do we have to make it so friggin detailed?

wenever i add depth to the mesh, some parts become thicker then the other
@Rescan3 жыл бұрын
Try applying your scale first. If that doesn't work bevel the edges of the curves. A lot of times this happens beacause the corners are too sharp.

Modeling in Blender is insanely difficult. I wonder how this newer generation of modelers & animators would respond to using Softimage (XSI) the absolute king of 3D modeling. I could build this in a few minutes. Why Autodesk killed that software I’ll never understand.

No need. While it's still a text object, in Text properties panel set Fill Mode to None.
