As a retired instructor, I love coming back to videos like this to remind me of the basics. So I can continue to advance my skills. These basic tips/tricks can take your riding to the next level... I still continue to surprise myself with such simple techniques after boarding for over 10 years. I still bust out my instructor book everynow and then and go all the way back to level 2 lesson content to see what basics I can improve on and it makes the difference. I believe a lot of riders who learn how to make it down the hill get to comfortable with improper techniques and building on those will not benefit you like it should. I think a big turning point for me was when I learned to ride switch, then you really have to be conscious of ALL your body movements. Thats when i realized how much more I could change riding regular. The growth I had in the following 2 years was AMAZING compared to riding plenty of years before that with little growth as a rider.

I think this method is more for beginners because this is how I was taught and honestly it made it sooo much easier for me to initiate turns without losing my balance and falling straight onto my knees every time I tried. Takes a bit of practice but it is good for people just starting to learn how to turn imo. I think most of the people commenting negatively here forgot what it feels like to be an absolute beginner.

I agree totally with reference to head, as with most sports its very important as its the heaviest part of your body which needs to be balanced. I am still new to snowboarding but know enough to notice problems. I have given advice to several beginners usually resulting in comments of thanks, just had my best run and generally thanking me for my help. On the other hand Iv'e noticed advanced riders form into bad habits and forget the main starting principles . If anyone has played Golf even the Professionals revert right back to beginners basics if they have any problems within their game

I think most of u that know how to snowboard aren't beginners that leave negative comments and saying he is wrong. Everyone who starts snowboard will start using upper body first swinging arms shoulders and hips first to get hold of the balance and get use to the board and gravitation....correct. I'm sure 98 % of u did same. Like he said most effective and efficient way is to start using your feet and knees once you have over come the upper body motions and that all comes later as u get better and get more advanced with you skills and technique.
@boarderwoz6 жыл бұрын
OMG the technique shown in this video is so out dated. I was taught this technique over 15 years ago. I then spent the last ten years trying to undo all the bad self limiting technique shown here. You turn the board with your feet creating torsional flex in the board. What is shown here will allow a novice to flail down the hill more quickly, but they will soon Plato. It takes longer to learn to turn properly from the feet, but you will keep getting better and better with proper foot steering technique. For me this is a video on how not to learn to snowboard. For a good guide on how to turn properly google the BASI technique.

Hi Snowboard Addiction! Do you have a tip or trick to make sure that both (or front) knees are always bend? I heard these tips already: imagine u have a watering can and u give water to the plants, imagine you have a crate of beer and you lift it from 1 side to the other. Or drop a snowball in front of your nose before you make the turn. I would like a tip that makes sure that people always bend their knees, but I don't know if that exists... Grtz! Bjorn

@jackrobinson38333 жыл бұрын
I know this is two years old but make sure to keep your knees bending a lot. If you have stiff knees you will fall forwards. It’s the same as when you’re standing up if you try to lean forward you will fall unless you catch yourself by bending your knees.

This video seems to be contradicting the other video "How To Keep Your Weight Over The Top Of Your Board" on your channel - that one says push your hips forward to toe edge and on 2:42 you say otherwise. Same with the hand rotation, you rotate your shoulders here while there they say its bad form..can you clarify please? That video also says you don't pressure toes to go to toe edge - you push your shins against the binding and push your hips forward, while you talking about pressuring toes. It makes no sense - which is correct?

Man I've rewatched this and lots of other vid on how to turn. I just can't do it! I am able to do heelside falling leaf as many time as I want without falling on beginner slope. Even on intermediate slope I didn't fall that much using falling leaf technique. But every time I try to turn and transitioning to toe side i can't balance myself and fall EVERY time! I noticed when I'm on toe side my heel lift a tiny bit in the boot which throw me off. Wonder if the boot is the problem or maybe my knee is just not strong enough to balance

@novaprospects5 жыл бұрын
Ralitsa Zhekova I have been having the same problem. I think a lot of it is to do with being able to look ahead and plan out your next move. Try to not get stuck focusing too much on your own board, or the snow right in front of you. From there, in theory, you can make heel/toe slides to adjust your speed when necessary. Also I believe binding setup plays a huge part of it.
