Depends on your definition of underrated. They weren't underrated in their day. It's just the internet morons with IQs akin to that of a potato calling them slow by 2020-on standards. But now, the newest ones are close to 20 yrs old. Parts are getting somewhat more difficult to find, and some parts manufacturers have started discontinuing some of the performance parts for these. We also have to compound that with the cost of most V8 SN-95s in mint shape. New Edge GTs still command over $20k if they're mint with low miles. Cobras and Mach 1s, along with the 5.0 GTs all are pushing 40-100k in auctions now. The only one that can still be had for a song is 96-98 GTs for obv reasons - though the lack of power can quickly & easily be rectified.

Great video. I bought my 95 convertible about 2 years ago for 900 bucks and it was a junker. I’ve redone everything from the interior to painting it myself and there’s nothing more gratifying than knowing you’ve turned every bolt yourself. I wouldn’t sell my car for nothing now. The boss thought I was crazy when I showed up with the car on a trailer and I told her it’s just a project car, but once I started I couldn’t stop. It now has a built 302, v-3 supercharger, 4.10 gears, built 4r70w trans, new interior, paint ( almost identical color of yours), new top which I recommend having someone else put on. It took longer to do the top than anything else I’ve done. Keep the great videos coming and we’ll keep our SN’s alive together. They’re getting hard to find around here, especially a nice one

Finally I had to get rid of it because I’d developed a love hate relationship with the car. Hey great video. More to add about 3.8s. I purchased a 2003 with a turbo kit added by the previous owner. The hot side was custom made and the other parts were bought off eBay. The previous owner had turned to boost up over 12 pds and the engine had a knock when we purchased it. I replaced the engine with a rebuilt motor and it's now my son's daily. It gets a lot of looks and it's popular with all his friends. Definitely one of a kind. We are only running spring pressure now at around 10 psi it's probably 250-275 at the wheel. Plan on rebuilding a 4.2 motor, boring it over, forged internals, cam, ported heads, and then running over 15 psi to see what we get. However, if we're up to me I wouldn't started this with the 3.8, would of started with a 4.6.

Just my opinion but that’s what I would do after I had so much trouble with the really cool modern tech. I have thought about getting a convertible SN95 & building a super high revving pushrod small block. To me, the sound one of those makes that’s built for Trans Am style road racing, well, the sound makes it deep into this old man’s soul. I think you did a good build.👍

Great video man! Good advice on the MSD. They are junk, come with faulty PIP sensors out of the box. As far as coyotes are concerned, I just think they are boring motors. They look like something that comes out of a luxury sedan or a truck, not many people build them up, they just throw them in a car and call it done. They aren't easy or cheap to work on and the swap parts can easily cost just as much as the motor itself. Pushrod motors and even older 4 valves have character and character is what sets a car apart from the pack.

I’m full bolt on minus long tubes, i have auto unfortunately and think i want to do gears next 4:10s. I’m looking for supercharger since it cost so much to have long tubes or cams installed, so i figure few more bucks i can find used blower for that price and at least attempt to install myself. I seen a couple of videos of cams install but i feel that maybe a little out my league especially without garage lol. But great content and keep it coming

The 3.8 head gasket was a factory recall. However, buying the car used through private sale, you really didn’t know that. Especially back then, as it’s not like you could search for recall information easily on the internet. I believe the head gasket in mine blew in 2000. I was 17, and on my way to school, but thankfully, after ignoring the violent shaking it was doing from a cold start, I pulled over immediately after noticing all that white smoke coming out of the exhaust. I hadn’t driven it very far at all. My father had some shop replace my head gasket, and later Ford mailed him a letter informing him of the recall, and reimbursement check. I think that recall is probably expired now. Not sure if that was before or after yours blew. I know that low mileage 3.8 are sketchy, and would inform owners to get that checked, or confirmed with the seller. I had the 3.8 up till 2008, until I swapped it out for a 5.0 mostly because I was so sick and tired of the hate it was getting. Yeah, ok 145hp… …but the v8 same year was getting 215hp. I mean, I guess that’s 70 more hp, but this was during a time when brand new v6 mustangs were getting 210 hp stock. So now I drive around and strangers are asking me if it’s fast, and I don’t know what to tell them. It’s faster than the cobra of its day, but that was 29 years ago! Tons of boring cars are faster. Feels faster, looks faster, more fun. So that’s what matters. If I want to drag race someone, I would just take out my family sedan.

Fantastic sir. I have my father's 94 bought new 94 f150 conversion flare side standard can that I wish to do a similar engine/trans upgrade. Currently factory except e-303 cam, headers, 3k stall lock up converter, shift improver kit, and 4:11 gears, all done by pops whom I lost aout a year ago. I want to store the current #'s matched drivetrain, and build another 302 based engine with forged lowers, 10:5 compression, afr heads in 165-185 sizing (undecided currently), a roller cam, and a quick spooling single turbo/intercooler setup. 331,347, or ? Not sure yet, but I want a "not wild enough to be unreliable", 6200-6500rpm max engine. I'd like the truck to be comfortably in mid to high 12 second ET's in the quarter mile, and after tuning it, it will almost never see the track - I just want a fun, fast muscle truck that my son is going to steal from me promptly. I have a 351 based 95 extended cab 150 spoken for that I can build later 😊. Thank you for sharing your journey, sorry for the loss of your dad, glad you got to share some of this with him also.

I have a 03' Crown Vic P71. I am fixing to build it to beat the brakes off of coyotes. I've seen 302s and 2 valves that'll walk some coyotes. Not super built but ones but still fun. I plan on running twins on my Vic. That is. Beautiful Stang. You'll get her. I thought about building a 351w. But I think that'll be my next build. Its AFR heads and a holley intake those seem to really wake up. Check out this guy on here called Ben Alameda Racing. He has a KZbin channel. He has some really awsome videos with a lot of info. He builds the mess out of Ford small blocks. He gets crazy horse power out of stock blocks that others split them with.
@SN95Power Жыл бұрын
I remember watching a single turbo crown vic last year. I still want a marauder one day. If you go with a roller 351w make sure to check for cracks between the cam bearings. It's not that common but something to look out for. I'll definitely check out his channel
@GrandPitoVic Жыл бұрын
I was thinking about putting a 4v Marauder engine in my Vic. But I started checking into it and it's rated at 302 horse and 318 torque but it had no bottom end pull. The people I talk to say they are dogs down low. The cams are really expensive. The 3v puts out the same power and is narrower. People hate on the 3v but the only prob they have us the cam followers. Around 120k they are supposed to be changed. Oil changes play a big role as well. They respond to mods really good 2. With the charge motion valves and the VVT they put out pretty good bottom and top end. I can pick up a 3v at the u pull it cheap also. I have a 351w my cousin gave me so I have alot of figuring to do lol. Ben Alameda also will talk to you on the phone. People keep calling him for advice and it stops him from working so he started charing for it. It's like 100 for 30 minutes or 150 for an hour. He pioneered porting mustang intakes before BBk and trick flow came out with bigger throttle body's.

@@GrandPitoVic I've always been a big fan of the 3v motor. If I bought a marauder, I would eaton swap it.
@midnight347 Жыл бұрын
@Hugh Robinson no they are not dogs down low. It has the same engine as the Mach don't pay attention to the ratings it's just tuning related the engine is the same. The c head 4v with the Navi intake cams like those have good torque they aren't like b head 4v they started getting it figured out by then. A 4v c head motor will stomp on a 302 even with a cam and gt40 upgrades you'd have a hard time making the power those make and they are plenty torque oriented. Just throw 8-10 psi on a stock 4v with headersnand you will see 450+ rwhp easy. A 302 needs other stuff to do that like the stuff I mentioned gt40 stuff and a cam. Do the 4v and do an Eaton swap you can do 450 rwhp easy. Pretty simple recipe.

I have a 5 speed 95 GT and tossed around the idea of a programmable ECU but I have no experience with these mustangs, being an older car how much does the ECU control? Is it just the engine? I watched a guy install a mega squirt but he had an integration box he manufactured and sells that integrated the mega squirt into the factory harness but that itself was more than the MS it was like $900!!! It was a box you plug the MS into and all the factory connectors into. Do you need to do that or can you hook the MS to the engine and leave the rest on the factory ECU or not need it at all, or am I as confused as a 15 year old with a girl for the first time lol. With my 92 Chevy c1500 the ECU handled just the fuel injection and the ignition, I did an HEI and carb swap and tore the ecu out(actually reached way under and just tore it out and broke a big hole in my heater box, should have just left it but hey prob lost 2 pounds! Could have managed that by skipping a couple meals. If the car wasn't 100% original and rust free I would carb swap it but I can't bring myself to molest it like that plus go backwards in technology and I like efi cold starts in the morning start it and it runs not being all temperamental. Any info would be appreciated.
@SN95Power8 ай бұрын
For your 95 Mustang, you would need a piggy back chip like quarterhorse or sct chip. These chips allow modifications to the stock tune. You attach these chips to the back of the stock computer I never used MS but it's another way to modify the tune of your car. With megasquirt you keep the factory wiring and install the MS computer.

Any reason why you went with 3.55 gears ?
@SN95Power Жыл бұрын
There are arguments about lower gears vs higher gears on turbo car. I picked 3.55 because it was in the middle range of that debate. A 3.08 would load the turbo longer than a 4.10 but would be soft until you hit your spool RPM. 4.10 gear would get you out the hole faster but you would be faster to redline. All theory and a lot depends on your combination. I don't have a combination that I can rev to 6700 RPM, so I went with 3.55 and I like it. I believe last time I crossed the trap I was at 6K RPM with a 26" tall tire.
