In this video, I will show you how to open up and put away a Brother KH-965i.
The advice shown in this video will relate to all punchcard and electronic models of Brother knitting machines, that are standard gauge or chunky gauge.
This is general advice, so do check the manual for any variations for your particular model, as this particular machine may come with parts or extras that yours doesn’t and vise versa…
The Brother metal bed, Japanese machines, are all much of a muchness, so I made this video to give you visual assistance to what is described in your instruction manual but as I said there will be slight variations between gauges and models of machine.
Here are time stamps of various steps in the video, incase you wanted to fast track to certain parts you may need to know, without watching the whole video.
1:22 - How to open the latches on the case to remove the case lid.
1:55 - How to take the case lid away from the knitting machine.
2:18 - A brief run through of the two types of accessory box your machine may have.
2:49 - How to remove the carriage lock
3:11 - An Explanation of the pretty standard tools that come in the accessory box.
5:13 - How to put the tools back in the accessory box.
7:09 - A brief description on the components in the case lid and how to remove them.
7:17 - How to remove the sinker plate from the case lid.
7:43 - How to remove the lace carriage from the case lid.
8:12 - How to remove the cast on comb (or combs) from the case lid.
8:57 - Removing the tension mast from the case lid.
9:23 - How to unfold the tension mast.
10:06 - Talking about how to remove an add on row counter from the case lid, if your model doesn’t have a built in row counter.
10:24 - How to remove the extension rails from the case lid.
11:07 - How to repack the machine, begging with how to correctly put the lace carriage extension rails back into the case lid.
11:55 - How to collapse the tension mast down for storage in the case lid.
12:28 - How to put the tension mast into the case lid.
13:39 - How to put the sinker plate into the case lid.
13:53 - How to put the cast on comb (or combs) into the case lid.
15:07 - How to put the lace carriage back into the case lid.
15:27 - How to put the carriage lock back on.
15:59 - Putting the case lid back onto the machine.
16:39 - How to close the case lid catches.
16:51 - Advice on carrying the knitting machine by its handle.
17:21 - Advice on transporting and packing the knitting machine for shipping.

Excellent again. Watched yr video several times before starting. After a cup of coffee tackled repacking, with a tiny help from hubby. Worked like a dream. 😊 Going to unpack my standard gauge machine now. No rest for the wicked😅 Carry on with your videos.

I've seen a lot of your videos. They're always great. Your films are like childhood fairy tales that you will always remember. And now the text in Polish. Super film ! Fajnie jest pokazane jak rozpocząć przygodę z dziewiarstem na maszynie Brother . (włąśnie sobie taką kupiłem) . I added some text to let you know that your videos are watched all over the world. Greetings, Paweł (Paul) from Poland.

Thank you so much for this video. I needed to store my machine. Could not figure out how to repack it.

Thank you so much for your very useful video. It is a great help for me! I love the themes you are choosing and the way you then make great videos out of them.

Thank you so much - I have an older Brother KH910 and just could not get the lace carriage out of the top. You are a star.

Thank you for the informative video 😊 I just got my machine set up yesterday - is the short spring referenced at 9:42 involved in the yarn threading? Mine fell out and I cannot figure out where it goes and what it does 😭 Thanks!

Hello young man, I wish you a Happy New Year. I would love to see you do some more knitting in a video rather than watching you unpack or repack the knitting machine. But I understand that there might be someone that need this video in order to be able to unpack, and repack their knitting machine. Greetings from Kenneth in Norway.

It’s not Kenneth Williams is it? Be amazing if it was LOL. Thank you for your comment, don’t worry, the knitting videos are not going anywhere, I do have plans for content I want to put out this year. The reason for this video, is I see an awful lot of machines for sale that inevitably get damaged in transit because items were not put back in the right places or they were not packaged carefully. There didn’t seem to be any videos giving this kind of detail so I decided to make one. I understand the majority of people watching my channel will know this but someone will probably find it helpful. Happy New Year to you too, honestly watch this space because I have more knitting stuff planned for my channel. 😃

Thanks Rainie, I thought someone may find it useful, who isn’t familiar. I have been working on a wacky patchwork Fair Isle sweater in colours Aran and Navy, I knitted it on my Brother 970. I will post some photos of it finished on my channel if you like, if you don’t follow my posts on the Machine Knitting Facebook group.

@@Thesweaterfactory yes it was very useful. Would love to see your patchwork fair isle sweater but don’t do Facebook. I also just realised that one of your shoulder seam videos I used for reference the other day is from 10 years ago, so glad you’re still sharing videos. Thank you

@@rainieraine1192 Gosh, on the Knitmaster 155? I sold that machine years ago! That sweater was for my nephew, I made it a long time ago. What was it you wanted to know?
