The Chi-Rho was also a symbol used by pre-Christian pagans and it is likely that the symbol was adopted by Christianity. Numismatic evidence (that just means coins) from the reign of Ptolemy III Euergetes (second half of 3rd century BC) demonstrates quite conclusively that the Chi-Rho symbol was used as a monogram with some kind of meaning in the pre-Christian era.

👍 It is possible and even likely that it is an adopted older symbol from some kind of older context, after all it is not highly complex symbol and it works as monogram for other things too and was probably used for chreston (good) as on those coins you are referring to.

Have you noticed the similarity between the Chi-Rho and others symbols ? It reminds me an article ( The Fleur-de-Lis and the Bee by Andrew Gough). The Chi-Rho, the Fleur-de-Lis and the Bee are three royal or imperial symbols. According to the article, the Bee would come from the Minoan double axe depicting a bee goddess. Some could also see an angel, or maybe an aircraft. Maybe the vitruvian man of Da Vinci is also related to the Chi-Rho. Interestingly, you can find the Chi-Rho symbol on the High Priestess Arcana of the Tarot de Marseilles ("II - La Papesse"). The Rho is on the left side of the card (on the headdress), the Chi is between her arms. We also see the greek letter delta. I've not found anything on this. It could be a reference to the pyramids in Egypt (delta is a pyramid, and the Chi-Rho can represent the East, being also an ancient greek/egyptian symbol before Christianity). In old french, "chiron" also means "a pile of stones" (like the pyramids). If the symbol is older than Christianity, I wonder what he could really mean, but in my opinion it's no coincidence if it has the same shape and form than other royal symbols.

The Bee is in christian/Jewish mysticism a reference to holiness & righteous wealth since honey --> divine favor (like in the land of milk and honey) and used on a lot of heraldry with that reference too, though it is possibly far older too. The chi-rho could be from a lot places as it is a pretty basic symbol and a lot of symbolism has had a lot of double meanings, which have extensively been utilized in various esoteric circles.

@@DanielJackson-dq9cl 👍 I had an interest in christian mysticism and esoteric thought a while back and it was how I came across that meaning.
