What is a good source of learning history? A source that would point an individual toward validating ethics? I am asking for myself, as I would love to do that, and potentially teach others too.

I would say the important thing is to continue reading on history, and keeping a firm distinction between the events and the writers estimates of the events. Ayn Rand’s article on Vanderbilt is a good example of this. For your purpose: I read an excellent book called “The Dictator’s Handbook: why bad behavior is almost always good politics” by Bruce Bueno de Mesquita and Alastair Smith. It’s not ethics as such, but it is an excellent presentation of the mechanics of politics with a staggering number of concrete examples. They do not draw many ethical conclusions except for a general agreement with Altruism. But with a good ethical base it is easy to use this book as a demonstration of the inter-relation between a political structure and ethics. Here is a great summary of the principles outlined in the book presented very entertainingly. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qITXfWqknrdqndU
