Get the FREE One-Month Day checklist here: www.flowstate.com/onemonthday Rían here. Thanks for watching! In a world of constant change, getting stuff done requires a new skill: finding certainty, even for brief windows. Imagine being so focused that nothing can knock you off track. With the science-backed techniques in this PDF, you can use strategically timed certainty windows to complete a month’s worth of work in less than a day.

Excellent! It nice to see the military mindset being appreciated. Before retiring, I spent 50% of my working life as a civilian and 50% as a military air traffic controller. Ruthless prioritisation and total focus on the ‘extremely urgent’ that were essential in my military role helped me to be more effective than some of my colleagues in the civilian role. Love your presentations!

Summary with Time Stamps: 00:00 🎯 The Navy SEALs use the "Micro Mission Rule" to sustain deep focus amid chaos and distractions. 01:42 💡 Flow State depends on certainty, complete concentration, and clear goals. 04:17 🧠 The Task Positive Network (TPN) in the brain helps maintain focus and adapt to shifting priorities. 06:36 🚀 Creating "Certainty Windows" and executing "Micro Missions" within them boosts focus and motivation. 09:05 📅 Distinguishing between Mission-critical and merely urgent tasks helps reduce uncertainty. 10:58 ⏳ Committing to certainty windows and avoiding interruptions is essential for sustained focus and flow. 12:38 🛣 Extending certainty windows over time increases productivity and the potential for achieving flow state.

Network 4:12 felt perceived certainty. task positive network. Atomic Activities 5:05 execute micromissions within certainty windows Brain chemicals victories 7:24 neurochemical momentum will carry you forward Atomic Increase 14:01 work the certainty window up so then 30 mins becomes 45 mins becomes 1 hour becomes 1 day Thank you for this video Rian !

As a mother of two young kids, certainty is so, so hard and i have a very hard time getting into any flow. Rian does a great job explaining this and just understanding these concepts has already help me carve out little blocks for micro-missions. I'm a mother foremost but still have creative pursuits, just being able to conceptualize certainty windows and flow is incredibly valuable for carving out small blocks to pursue my craft

@@riandoris Hmm, since I discovered your channel (as I've already read about the flow state) I immediately tried to implement your teachings into my routine. So all of the videos helped me in some way. If I had to choose though, the 2 most helpful (for me) were probably 'The 6 alarm clocks method' and the 'Cheap dopamine avoiding' ones. The first, because I firstly tried to imitate your alarms (hinges) and fit my priorities within it. Until I could finally understand what my TRUE domino habit is ( - daily To-do lists) The second, because I found that whilst my phone is always a distraction, I should find a way to limit its usage to productive purposes only. (And not using it for the first 2 hours of the day?!! Huge game changer..)

This was fascinating. Understanding how I went into OCD and anxiety in the past, I can say that this would have been a very useful tool and information to help soothe that underlying feeling of unsafety-uncertainty and "out of control". As I was listening, ideas kept coming of how this simple tool can be used across many different areas: information work, learning a skill, creative projects, even meditating. And this could be an amazing gift if it was taught to children, especially children who have received labels of anxiety (ADD, ADHD or others), that can benefit tremendously from directing their full energy and attention towards something that actually interests them, even if it is 5 minutes of full on focus, and the satisfaction that comes with it. Thank you for sharing your expertise and this amazing work that can help so many get the deep satisfaction of actualizing more and more of their potential. 🙏

that is great. In the past I once had a situation that involved great uncertainty and fear. Generally, when not occupied with learning (I was a student), my mind would wonder towards the "problem" and worrying would be the state of mind. But, there were moments of peace, and these moments were the moments, when I would study for an exam. That is exactly the principle of "window of certainty" for a specific time you focus on one thing and let everything else untouched by your mind. That is really an interesting concept and, although I have experienced it, I was not completely aware of the underlying principle(s). Great content, thank you :)

This one's a banger. I've been working on re-sensitizing to dopamine (making progress), and trying to wake into flow (struggling a bit.) But those are more for long-term goals. I can take micro-missions into my regular work because it already is a series of micro-missions (making deliveries). Breaking them down a step or two further would take no effort.

Certainly is another word for faith. Believing something without doubting. Believing something in the here now is deserving of all your attention. This certainty generates motivation-in-the-moment. Motivation that triggers action because you have a definite goal and can easily see the steps necessary to reach it. Your so since to you, “This action is worthy of my energy.“ Why have auto and predictive text and dictation gotten worse and worse and worse? Auto and Predictive text are worse now than they were 12 years ago. Dictation has gotten worse just over the past two months since I started using it. It fucks up more now than it did two months ago. I didn’t know AI could get stupid

Is there such a thing as too long a certainty window though? At a certain point, wouldn't the lack of urgency by having a certainty window too long make it optimal to reduce it so you can tap back into the positive elements of stress and focus? It seems with too long a window you wouldn't be able to maintain enough focus to get things done.

You are in your certainty window focusing on your micro mission and someone comes along with a higher priority task, problem, or whatever and you are right back to where you started... scrambling. Not how a Navy Seal works/thinks or how a fast-paced business environment works either. Sounds good in theory, but not practical not only in the present but certainly not for a sustained period of time. All you are doing is focusing on what you have bounced around to at the moment. As another example, you are in the airport making a connecting flight. You get to the gate and they won't net you on the plane because they won't accept your Covid test results even though it was accepted at the departure airport. You may have a certainty window and a micco mission, but you still are subject to the winds of change/your environmental stimulus. A Navy Seal would have the same issues. Been there, done that.

This information is very dangerous. The biggest disasters I have seen came from people functioning exactly as you say in this video. But, like nuclear energy, it depends on its use and I am not against that you share this information. The problem is those people are very effective, wrong or right, doing good or not. The only solution I found is to wear them out, attacking them at every opportunity and with every tools you have. One other solution is to avoid them and it is generally what peoples do. For exemple, a very effective negotiator have an expiration date, because in the long run, when it becomes known is a good negociator, nobody do business with him. I am not sure about the solution, the problem is that on a individualist base, it’s always the right approach, because the person that is certain will win most of the time, right or wrong. I am not sure of the correct translation, in french we call them « Imbeciles Zélés » (maybee dedicated idiots ? )
