Detangling A Massive ball of Matted Hair and extensions ‼️😱
Hello Beautiful people,
This tutorial is about a young lady that had extensions in her hair for 4 months, but her hair has been matted in a big ball of mess for 2 1/2 months. This is due to poor application of the extensions and poor maintenance. She had a combination of tape in extensions and keratin links. She initially came in for highlights, toner and a cut, but after our consultation and further inspection of her hair. I explained to her before I can do anything, I will have to remove all of the extensions and detangle her hair first. This video shows the process from beginning to end and I hope you guys enjoy.

Tools
Rat tail comb
Extensions pliers
products I used
1. Water
2. Cinderella hair Bond remover for keratin links.
3. Milbon smooth conditioner (didn’t work that well for detangling the knots)
4. Pureology colour fanatic (great for detangling)

Thank you for giving her such kind and gentle care. I had a mat once and was very embarrassed about it. It was tight against the nape of my neck and hurt. When I finally got the courage to tell my parents, my dad sat me down and picked it apart. It must have taken him two hours. Your miracle work reminded me of my dad doing the same thing. ❤️

@@sesshielovesu try soaking your hair in an apple cider vinegar bath first. That will breakdown any buildup, then condition with regular conditioner (I like using coconut oil as I feel it helps it relax more) and then just slowly brush it out working from the tips to the root. Always keep it wet, and a Wet brand brush is the best for detangling! Good luck. When I get depressed, I'm the same way and leave my hair up in a bun for weeks, months...

This video brought me to tears. My hair has been in a matted bun for almost a year now. I've been battling horrible depression and trying to cope with the loss of my sister, my dad and my best friend all within a short time.. maintaining my hair was the last thing I wanted to worry about. I also have MS so it's hard enough for me to shower, let alone brush my hair. I just kept putting it in a bun. Now im at the point where I need to cover it with a scarf to go in public and im so ashamed and embarrassed. I need help so badly! 😢 I wish I lived closer but im all the way in NY. Can anyone recommend a salon that is as amazing as this one that is closer to upstate NY? This is really interfering with my life and definitely not helping my depression 😢. I know that I need to go out in public and socialize more and get out of this horrible depression but the embarrassment of my hair has kept me hiding inside and so embarrassed constantly distancing myself from everyone. I need this so badly and I have money to pay for it I just can't afford to travel to FL to get it done and I don't know what to do! If I get it cut I'm afraid I'll just continue to have the same embarrassment and more self hatred. I've never even had short hair. 😢😭😫

@@missmeadowjewelry6216 thanks . I've looked but unfortunately I haven't had any luck with a professional that will take on my issue and after contacting a few salons I'm even more stressed and upset over it all because of all the disgust and judging that I received just trying to find help resolving it (I went to salons that were over an hr away from my home town bc of the small town gossip and embarrassment) So now I've been working on what I can for a couple days and then my mom is going to tackle some and then hand me off to my friend (who I finally confessed to 😞) if my friend can't get it all out then my mom will try again or the 2 of them will just alternate so that they both can have time to rest. I have a feeling that it's going to be a very LONG process! But, it will be well worth it if I can just have my beautiful hair back (although I know it's probably really damaged at this point 🥴 I don't know if there's any products I should get to work on it with? Should I do the soak that salons do for extensions (vinegars lemon juice or baking soda?? ) I don't want to make it worse- especially since it's a project that is going to take multiple days.. I appreciate any suggestions 🥴 this is rough!

As someone who has to go thru this regularly, any time I don’t completely comb out and untangle my long hair for more than two days, I hope you were to get this taken care of. I had to order a comb made out of some kind of animal horn from France because I kept breaking them. Takes me about an hour. I divide my hair into sections and work on one piece at a time. I find the Johnson’s no more tears conditioner really helps. I put that on first. Let it sit for a little bit and then try to work it through. I like the spray too but the conditioner like the cream conditioner is better when it’s in bad shape. I have also found the WEN styling cream to be helpful. The cleanser didn’t do it for me, but the styling creme and the mask if I’m at the point where I feel I wanna leave it on overnight was helpful. I also like to use as a leave in conditioner every day Solar Recover Save Your Hair. It comes in a spray bottle and it’s full of essential oils. Once I spray that on each day after I’ve done a full detangler, I can usually get one of those detangling hair brushes through it and if I do that every day I stay out of trouble. It usually takes me an hour to do the detangling routine. I am also experimenting right now with wearing a satin lined bonnet to bed and that has shown to be somewhat helpful. I just have to remember to put it on before I fall asleep.

I’m just so happy that I’m not alone. Been feeling extremely ugly with this going on. This last depression is my worst ever. N on top of that I lived in a four plex where all the neighbors harassed me in any way they could. Why did they do it? SMFH idk jealousy n offended that I didn’t acclimate to them or try to act like they was important. So I had shut down. I washed my hair one time without combing it out first. Fell asleep n woke up n it was matted. I was still depressed so I kept saying Ill do it later n later until now here I am sitting here with it way way worse. I’ve always had long hair n always taken care of my hair well because I grew up with a mom who was a cosmetologist & instructor at the beauty school. So I stayed in the shop n hair was well kept. Obviously I kept up with it as I had learned n been raised to. This depression damn near stole my entire existence. I’m in a new place finally n started working on my flaws, dark spots from stress acne n stupid facial hair. It’s weird cuz since I’m no longer in that place my skin has calmed down n is returning to normal. I never had adult acne until 2017 when the stress was heavy & I stared feeling hopeless. I haven’t cut anything but been contemplating if I can get it out. Today I. I’m ready to try. Gonna do do hot oil treatments multiple times a day until I get it out. Can’t believe this shit happened 😒 ok now imma finish watching ☺️💫

I wish I lived closer to your salon! I’m a guy and have shoulder length hair, I currently live in a pretty bad situation and have been depressed and not washing and brushing my hair, my hair is matted in clumps and people at work are noticing, my situation is getting better and I’ll be moving out of my bad situation in August and I am tender headed in certain spots so even though I wanna fix it I can’t because it hurts wat to much and im terrified to go to a salon or barber shop in town because they will not only lecture me but cut it completely off! I have a mens braided style I like and I miss braiding it and just looking nice, I actually tried it because during the pandemic my hair grew down to my chest and for the first time since I was 14 I had hair for a longer style and I really like it and it makes me feel so masculine and like im myself that knowing it’s gonna get cut off really upsets me because it took 2 years of growth to have it long enough and I don’t wanna start over again! I wish more stylists would be like and understand it’s not always our fault and we need help because sometimes there’s more important stuff to worry about than your hair

But a bottle of conditioner. You will use the whole thing. I put it in dry and let it soak. Then get in the shower with a brush and wide tooth comb. Let the water run through as you brush it out and keep adding conditioner. If you can do it in small sections. After it's all out shower normally put conditioner in after and braid it to sleep. You have to shower and brush it daily so it doesn't happen again

This woman did an AMAZING job wow 😍 This is how I remove my knots and when my hair gets matted.. HOW TO REMOVE KNOTS & MATTED HAIR: You need: -detangler or conditioner -a wet brush -a hard brush with hard bristles -a comb Start at one section of your head where the knot(s) are. With the comb try to separate the knot from your regular de knotted hair. Apply some detangler spray or conditioner to the knot do not saturate. Brush any hair below the knot to where there’s no tangles. Starting from the top/then middle of the knot or matted area using your wet brush go over the knot from the top until some of the hair starts to become unknotted where your brushing. Then switch to the hard brush and do the same thing. Keep alternating between the wet brush and the hard brush going over the front & top of the knot. Then get the comb and start from the bottom of the knot working your way up like in this video. Continue to move between the wet brush, the hard bristle brush and the comb. Re apply conditioner or detangler as needed but don’t make it saturated just damp. It will hurt, dead hair that was supposed to shed will come out since it wasn’t able to shed due to it being knotted which is normal. Continue to work in sections, removing the hair from the brush and combs when it fills up. Remember to keep untangled hair away from the knotted area and continue to focus on one knot or matted area at a time. This always works for me! I’m sure people will say always start from the bottom but in my opinion and experience I always have to loosen the rest of the knot before doing so.

Wowza! I’ve been a hairstylist for 30 years I’m impressed!! What do you recommend for someone who has long natural wavy hair that doesn’t comb it enough? I need a great conditioner - Detangler? I have a client like this. Nothing seems to work. She washes her hair about once a week it’s pretty thick and she trains horses so she’s always wearing it in a messy bun. It takes forever just to comb it out.

What rainbow says. I found that sometimes a little conditioner works to help. But trying to separate into secretions, then, carefully brush from the bottom up. Working on trouble spots as you go. Just take your time and take breaks between.

Omg I wish you were in the Dallas area. My 3 year old has long strawberry blonde 3 A, B, and C curls down to her butt. The C’s are on the bottom, and EVERY single day the name of her neck is matted. We went on vacation just outside of Destin so I slacked on her hair for two days. Currently trying to get out a mat that goes all the way along her neck in the bottom half of the underside of her hair. It’s overwhelming and I don’t even know where to start 🤦🏼‍♀️

In the future I will travel to different locations 🤞🏾. First get yourself a rat tail comb with the metal end and some detangler. Start with some sections and whenever your done braid it. Since she is 3 years old, it can be overwhelming for the both of you. So just do a little and give yourself and her a break. In the future to avoid that from happening again either put her hair in 2 French braid or 1 big braid, especially when she goes to sleep.
