Upgrading your CPU is a great way to increase performance in your PC when it comes to gaming, video editing or really any task you may be using your computer for; and compared to buying a new computer upgrading is considerably less expensive. I love your main PC. I have almost the same config. Powercolor Red Devil 6700xt + 5800x + 32Gb 3200mhz CAS16 + 1tb nvme pcie3x4 + 1tb SSD + 2tb HDD + 4k TV playing most of the time at 1440p and some games at 4K. The best PC I could afford and I'm really enjoying it.

Why is it necessary to upgrade the BIOS before a CPU Ryzen 5 upgrade to a 300 series motherboard? I am in a situation where, despite many email communication exchanges with MSI, MSI still cannot advise me how to overcome the failures I'm encountering with the BIOS update ... apart from wiping my computer, reinstalling Windows 10, and trying to update my BIOS again. I have a new CPU in hand, ready for installation, a Ryzen 5 on the Windows 11 compatibility list. I wanted to install the CPU and thereby let Windows 11 to update my BIOS (since this feature isn't available in Windows 10). My current BIOS version hasn't been updated in many years. In case you want to give any advise, I think my BIOS file is original (rom 2019). Thanks for taking the time to point out the safety concerns you did in this video, which is something that MSI failed miserably to do. I just finished commenting on MSI's ultra abbreviated CPU upgrade video in which MSI appears to be applying its marketing department's concept of "keep it simple, stupid" to the philosophies of the technical support department. When I see stuff like that, it just makes me wonder what the story is behind it. I wonder if the entire marketing department ousted someone who was laterally transferred into technical support, then quickly rose to the top, as people sometimes do ... even when it makes absolutely zero logical sense (yet it still happens a lot everywhere, especially in companies with nepotism).

Another word of advice is that the thermal paste really really glues itself to the cpu and cooler...moving it a little bit doesn't help in some cases... Careful with this step

Thanks for checking out the video and for the question. Both the 3200g and 3600 have a TDP of 65 watts, and as far as I know, both come with the same Wraith Stealth CPU cooler. If the 3600 you are buying does not come with a cooler for some reason, then yes, you can safely use the Wraith Stealth from the 3200g. Just be sure to clean off the old thermal paste and apply new. 🙂👍🏻

I have done this before. You can upgrade your bios from windows. Everything on the ssd including your operating system will be intact. No need to reinstall anything. I know this is a late answer but it might help somebody else 🙂

Yes. If you're going from Ryzen 1000 or 2000 up to Ryzen 3000 or 5000 you're good to go. You'll just need to update your motherboard BIOS to do it. However, if you want to go to Ryzen 7000 from Ryzen 1000, 2000, 3000 or 5000 you're going to need to upgrade to a new AM5 socket motherboard and DDR5 RAM as Ryzen 7000 CPU's are not compatible with AM4 motherboards which is the socket used by Ryzen 1000, 2000, 3000 and 5000.

Yes, new motherboards should all support Ryzen 5000. However, for people with older systems looking to upgrade from a Ryzen 1000, 2000 or even a 3000 series CPU to a Ryzen 5000 series CPU they will need to update their BIOS to be able to support their new CPU.
