Using a fake-a-lake for your boat is a great way to make sure your engine is ready for the water. Just be careful your boat is getting enough water. Please make sure you are not revving your engine up. You should stay below 1,500 rpm to ensure there is enough water in the system.

Thank you! I didn’t know what the water intake looked like and now I do. I have a different brand of “fake a lake”, but it’s basically the same. Now, let’s get that oil changed!

Great videos. I particularly liked when you call for Dad to help with the oil filter. A tip I use on filter changes is to mark the date, hours, or mileage on the filter in marker and before I fill the oil filter I put a strip of adhesive grip tape around it to give me a better grip when threading it on and a non-slip surface when I take it off.

Haha, I thought that was pretty fun as well. Thank for the tips. I personally right in the manual where the maintenance section is. But I haven't heard of the tapping oil filter trick. I think I will try that one out next time.

Great video, I bought one for my Nautique G23 wakeboard boat and it worked perfectly. One concern I have, more of a question...is that when I ran the engine with this and water was coming out of the exhaust like it was supposed to I also saw a steady stream of water coming from the stern area bilge into the drain plug area. I checked the engine and engine compartment and there wasn't any leaks there, is this normal?

The bucket method is better and yields a lot of information on how well your impeller/pump is working and the general performance of the cooling system. But, in a jiffy, and if you don't care to disconnect and reconnect hoses, Fake a Lake is the only way to go.

That's only true if your impeller is in the outdrive and not belt driven on the motor.

You should install a line so that you can hook up the garden hose directly, it'll save you time in the long run

coleeto2 for using it maybe once a year it doesn’t bother me. The lake is 100 feet away so I’ll just launch it and drive it around if I really want to get the engine warm.

Coleeto2 there always seems to be water left by where my engine is in my 1990 sanger. Is that okay to leave some water there?

Here's a tip. Use the fake-a-lake with a 6ft hose extension and use a cutoff valve on the hose from the house. Also, tie like a 10ft rope to the bottom of the pipe. I use the boat in brackish water and I wash the boat and flush the engine after every use. Before I wash the boat, and get the driveway wet, I install the fake-a-lake. I leave the 6ft hose and rope within easy access to the side of the trailer. Then I wash the boat. Now, I shut the cutoff valve and attach the host to the 6ft extension. I flush the engine, shut the valve off again, and pull the rope. Out comes the fake-a-lake from under the trailer. No more crawling around on the wet driveway installing and removing the fake-a-lake!

I have a 03' 206 Direct Drive Nautique and the "fake a Lake" rubber bowl doesnt quite cover (85%) the complete water opening in the hull---thoughts on whether to try using still?
@92813justin

Mine does not cover the whole intake as well. Turn the water on full and look at the water strainer in the engine compartment to see if water comes in right away. If not, turn the engine off.

Is there possiblity that when water is turned on and engine is not yet running water may get in the cylinders via exhaust mixer?
@92813justin
@92813justin 4 жыл бұрын
No, people have there engines off in the water all the time which is a lot of pressure just like a hose. There is also no opening for the water to go in the cylinder wall.
