I have only got into lifting weights for strength and health for the past 2 years rather than the previous half assed mixture of light bodybuilding, calisthenics or aesthetics type basic exercises I had been doing now and then. This required me to watch a lot of vids and although these have been a great help and no doubt avoid worse injuries than I have incurred, the 2 videos of yours that I have just watched have helped me identify at least 2 issues that I had not been made aware of from other vids. Maybe at my earlier lighter weights these issues were not making themselves known but they are now that 300+lbs lifts are here and the advice contained in your vids may just prove invaluable and enable me to move forward and avoid these issues, further mistakes, injury and enable more progress. Nice one! Thank you for that. For reference, it was the position of the squat bar on the back (I think I was doing a hybrid high and low bar) and the need to use a power lifting belt rather than a hybrid modern type sports shop leather training belt that I think I have. I will now watch more!

I see old guys at my gym (or some other guys that think they are so hardcore) that think they are doing everything correctly and judge you and try to correct you at every goddamn opportunity they have, wearing the belt every single day, and they don't even do any of the big threes, plus the belt is so tight it seems like they are suffocating, this gets to me because they walk around like they own the gym but they don't realize they are completes idiots!

I use a classical bodybuilding belt for both squat and dead-lift, and that works just fine for me. I start using the belt from 70 kg squats and go up to 2 reps @ 200 kg. I start using the belt for 70 kg dead-lifts and go up to 1 rep @ 240 kg. I also use the belt for curls beginning with the 20 kg olympic class bar up to 70 or 80 kg, and for dumbbell twisting wrist curls and hammer curls from 10 kg dumbells up to 35 kg dumbells. The only bicep excercise I don't need the belt for is preacher curls. The belt doesn't give me any strength but protects my back, and without it I would have a very bad back.
@qewr42318 жыл бұрын
+VoskiArdziv For heavy bench pressing a belt helps protect the lower back as well. I wear a belt for heavy overhead pressing, heavy bench pressing, heavy squats, and heavy deadlifts.

another reason to minimize the usage of a powerlifting belt is to reduce your body and mind's dependence on the belt for staying tight throughout a lift; that is, you should be able to stay tight regardless of a belt
