How to Use a Looper Pedal for Both Acoustic and Electric Guitar (Live Gig Tips)

This little looping trick is going to take your live solo gigs to the next level and increase audience engagement.
I'm showing you how to use a looper for acoustic and electric guitar, and how I change guitars in the middle of a loop.

The 3 main components I'm using for looping and sounds are:
Line 6 POD Go

First, I take you through each piece of music gear and why I use it. This doesn't mean you have to use the same equipment but I go over why this particular setup eliminates a lot of potential pain points in paying live and looping.
Secondly, I show you how to connect all of these music gear components. For the most part, this is simple. But it's helpful to know.
Lastly, I show you my detailed process of looping live n stage and how I change guitars in the middle of a loop. That's the exciting part of this video tutorial.
It seems like a lot but it's a simple process. And this is something that can really encourage audience engagement (and leads to more tips).
It's a different and unique element to add to your live solo gigs.

Thanks for all the useful tips, I got my looper a bit early in my guitar learning about 3 years ago. Just this year I’m getting more proficient at using it. For me there was a learning curve. I didn’t know what I didn’t know… My advice to anyone starting is to start sooner than later. Most of my equipment was not optimal in the beginning so I learned to use it and then decided to keep or change things up if needed.

Glad this video helped! I’ve been playing guitar since 1989 and didn’t starts using a looper until a year or so ago. So I feel you on the learning curve! It really does help for live gigs. Adds a different dynamic!

That GT-5 is a cool unit! Yeah, I really like to keep things simple playing live, especially with solo gigs. It's easy to get side-tracked with gear and that can throw off your performance.

This is great info Jason I think I'll have to save up money to get some equipment for any love shows I might do in the future I've been able to play in front of one of my music classes In college once it was cool I practiced even decided to sing even though I didn't know how and just went for it the class liked it I should play in front of a crowd more often 👍🆒

Jason Dude! Thanks for routing me to this video and understand why you use a separate looper. However, I would still like to know how to set up the Pod Go looper so I can go back and forth and overdub between either presets or snapshots. Guess I'll just have to experiment on my own.

I'd see if Line 6 has any info on that, on their website or maybe a forum. I never dug that deep into it. And I really only use a looper so that I can loop a simple rhythm to solo over it. It really helps give your live solo performances a different dynamic.

Nice video. Lots of info. Humble question: for someone like me singer guitar player with songs that don't use the same chord progression through our the song, but have different chord progressions for verse, chorus, bridge, etc, and go from one progression to another within a song, how can a looper be used, and what is recommended? Thank you for your help

That's a great question. I'm definitely not a looping master but I keep things simple by only looping a rhythm for the purpose of soloing over it. But my friend Andres Colin will do several loops...he's pretty amazing (I got to jam with him at a gig last month). Dude it definitely takes some practice and dedication to sing and play at the same time. I sucked really bad at it at first and almost threw in the towel! Glad I didn’t!

Something I did to work on this is practice singing by just playing the chord once so I am focusing on getting the singing down. I still do this learning new songs. There is lot timing with singing. You have to make that second nature. But our brains have limited concentration. Once both guitar and singing part are second nature bring them togather. Also you can simplfy certain part of the guitar while singing to make it easier for you. Then shred when not singing. I hope you don't give it up because is very rewarding experience.
