i've been using micropipettes for years and always needed to ask someone else to make sure it was at the correct setting for the amount we needed. thank you for this!

If you're having difficulty dispensing your aliquot, remember to depress the plunger slowly and when you feel the first stop, you can then press quickly to the second stop. As far as the 10% volume, I meant that for instance while using a p-100, you shouldn't try to draw less than 10 microliters, 100 for a p-1000, 2 for a p-20 and so on. You won't be able to properly dispense the aliquot due to the physics of reverse pressure putting backwards force on the dispensation. Hope that helps.

@smartaleck05 I'm glad you found the video useful, I made it for Genetics Lab. Go with what your professor said as far as your exam goes, but a good rule of thumb is to not set a micropipette less than 10% of its maximum volume. It is very difficult to fully eject anything under 10% of the maximum range.

Excellent video Good information provided thank you. I have watched five other pipette videos and this one is the best I have seen yet.

Great job! I have a practical for lab tomorrow, so this really helped as a review :) Also, we were told that the p20 can hold from 1-20 microliters.

By construction a pipette is more accurrate for a range from 35 to 100% of the nominal volume. Example for a 1000micro liter pipette the best accurrate range is from 350 to 1000. Below choose another smallest range of ajustable pipette if you need high precision.

thanks for the video! i always confused about the first and second stop, bc different lab technicians in my uni also get confused of it. but now i am clear to go~

Hey man, for the p20 the number on the windows divided by 10 represents the volume being dispensed, for p200 the numbers on the window directly represents the number of fluid being dispensed. However for the p1000 the value is multiplied by 10 to determine the number of fluid being dispensed. Is there a pattern to this or does each micro-pipette have a different "equation" in determining how much volume is dispensed? I really appreciate if you could clear up my confusion.

Each pipette volume has is own counter drum Color to determinate the volume reading. You can trust me !

What do you mean by 'not set a micropipette less than 10% of its maximum volume'? I have difficulty in ejecting the liquid that is needed for the PCR.

if I want to dispense 735 ul. Can I use the P1000? and put 730 on the dial
@jo-angel_pudgie5 жыл бұрын
won't it be 73 on P1000 (for 730uL) and 50 on P20 (for 5uL) to get 735uL? since 100 on P1000 is 1000uL, and that itself is the maximum volume you can get from the pipette
