I came upon this video by accident. I cannot comment on its accuracy, but I will say it was very well done! I am not easily impressed with instructional material of any sort. Experts seem to skip steps, probably due to their experience. You really took us through this step by step. I feel I can actually follow this, if need be, without feeling frustration from a confusing or incomplete instruction. Whatever you're doing, keep doing it. Good job!

That's lot of paint! You're right that a 3-foot wand can reduce the work by quite a bit when spraying massive square footage. For interior residential spraying, an 18-inch tip extension can also be very handy when dealing with 9-foot ceilings and vaulted ceilings, etc., so you don't have to drag a step ladder along. Thanks for commenting.

It is a Titan sprayer I've had for many years. Still works great because I treat it well. The basic components--suction tube, return (prime) tube, pressure knob, gun and tip, etc., are pretty much the same on all sprayers, although they sometimes look different on newer ones. I've used plenty of Graco sprayers over the years and they work great too. Thanks for writing!

john good tips. im a spray technician at a sherwin williams store and the only thing i have to say i had an issue with was youre referance to tsl. throat seal liquid is NOT a lubricant. Throat seal liquid is a liquid that helps remove pigments of paint from the throat packings and around the displacement rod. you really dont want to be using too much of that stuff for it is an acidic oil. youre better off using something such as hydrolic fluid for this. just a tip from one painter to the next. thanks john

Great question. You probably have one of Graco's Tradeworks line, which they describe as being for homeowners, handymen, and others who won't be spraying day-in day-out. Those sprayers are designed to not require throat seal. Other companies might also make homeowner lines that don't require throat seal, but as far as I'm aware, all professional-grade sprayers still require throat seal. (I double-checked with the paint store.) Thanks for asking and helping to clear this up. Enjoy that sprayer!

Hi--I don't recommend one specific brand of paint because there are lots of good brands, but what I do recommend is that no matter what brand you choose, buy the mid- to upper-grade paint they sell. Don't buy the cheapest they offer, and don't necessarily get the expensive designer paint, but something in the mid- to upper-range of quality usually works well. At paint stores you might ask for their "contractor's" paint, which isn't always displayed, but is usually decent quality and affordable.

Yes I have one of those too , the technique was to keep the gun tucked in at the waist so the weight would be off the trigger hand , and swop over when the ache set in, the 600litre would do 64 student bedrooms including 8 corridors 8 kitchens and a 4 storey staircase , I called this a section and while doing the job I did around 2500 bedrooms and then left site , it was getting too repetitive for me ,but then I worked for persimmon homes for 9 years spraying new build houses,
@howtopaintahouse11 жыл бұрын
You could try priming it with an oil primer like KILZ before topcoating with latex paint. Latex primer might work (that's what I use after removing popcorn to "seal" the ceiling before re-texturing) but if there is extreme chalking or something, oil primer is a little more effective IMO.

I have been painting for 12 years. I am a second generation painter. My father has painted for 30 years and neither of us ever use the prime valve. It is not necessary and the way you just throw the return tube into the paint bucket is just going to let the paint in it to dry up and get clogged. The biggest mistake is not first running the pump with water to make sure the packings work, the gun isn't leaking, and that the spray line is stable and doesn't explode.

Hi John: First, I think you're dry wit is hilarious. Second, I strained my acrylic paint using a 5 gl cheesecloth-type strainer. My Graco x7 clogged like crazy. I called Graco. The tech told me that those strainers aren't fine enough. He suggested that I use an old T-shirt and just let it drip through. He said that squeezing it pushes all the impurities through. What do you think? I'm not sure that paint will even drip through a T-shirt ... Thanks
@howtopaintahouse9 жыл бұрын
Rich Taylor Hey Rich, I'm not sure what kind of strainer you used, but I have never had a single problem or hardly any clogs ever in many years by using the nylon mesh 5-gallon strainer bags...here's a link to the ones I like. I always squeeze the paint out and I've never had an issue, although it isn't necessary to do it that way if you're concerned about impurities. www.amazon.com/Gallon-Elastic-Opening-Strainer-Pieces/dp/B00C2A9L0Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1433177212&sr=8-2&keywords=paint+strainer

Great video. Quick question please help, I understand the hole video but do both of the lines from the airless go into the paint, it looked like u just attached the skinny line to the bigger one, so to me it looks like you just have the bigger of the 2 lines actually inside the bucket of the paint, I understand the skinny line is also connected to the bigger one inside the paint bucket. But it looks like only the bigger one is down inside the paint bucket, it looks like the skinny line isn't buried down into the paint with the bigger line? Are they both supposed to be down into the paint? Or just the big one? So I'm just confused, I thought both lines are suppose to go down into the paint? Is that right? Please help I'm painting in the morning, I appreciate it? You also ganied another subscriber!!👍 just please respond @howtopaintahouse!

@howtopaintahouse10 жыл бұрын
The biggest issue I've had spraying trim is putting on too heavy of a coat and getting runs, resulting in some areas of trim needing to be sanded and resprayed. This can be avoided by doing a couple of light coats rather than one heavy coat, but it's tricky no matter what. Especially if you are spraying oil base paint, which tends to run more because it dries slower. Also, of course you need to use a fine-finish spray tip when spraying interior trim. I hope your job went well!

For us non-professional painters or people who just rent these sprayers as a one-time deal, would be good to explain what the purpose of the "prime" setting is, and that the "return tube" works in conjunction with the "prime" setting. It's confusing to us normal people, as the only "priming" I've ever known is the white paint you're supposed to use on the wall before you use the color paint. Took me a minute to figure out that the prime setting is to just get the machine and paint ready to go.

@howtopaintahouse11 жыл бұрын
Hi. Be careful the overspray doesn't shoot through the fence and land on your neighbor's house. If this is a concern, you might get some big cardboard refrigerator boxes from an appliance store and have somebody hold one on the other side of the fence to prevent the overspray from hitting anything. And stuff a flat piece of cardboard underneath as you move along to prevent dirt from blowing up into the fence. Spraying is a great way to stain a fence--much easier than brushing. Good luck!
