How to Use a Pen as an Improvised Weapon

During Nick Drossos' experience as a bouncer, he once witnessed someone getting stabbed by a pen on the neck. The damages created by the pen were considerable. That said, someone holding a pen can certainly create a lot of damage.
If you are ever to be attacked, you have the right to defend yourself. If you are trying to defuse the situation and your opponent is threatening to kill you, your goal should be to end the threat and remain safe.
Keep in mind that you should use this technique for extreme self-defense situations only. As an example, if you are faced with a 6'6'' guy who is telling you that he wants to kill you, you should definitively protect yourself.
In this clip, we show you how to use a pen as an improvised weapon for your safety. You can conceal the pen and strike your attacker from a passive stance. You can also use this improvised weapon in many other ways.

Good video but not a good example for an "extreme self defence" situation. If someone tells me "If I see you outside, I will...", I will not let them see me outside. Go to the staff, tell them what's going on. They will usually appreciate that you want to avoid a fight in front of their place and help you. Maybe they can let you out through the back door, maybe someone can walk you to your car, or they can call a taxi right to the door so that you can stay surrounded by security people while you get in. If they are not responsive, call the cops and explain the situation. A patrol car parked on the other side of the road while you get to your car is a very nice way to keep most people from attacking and most police forces will rather "waste" 5 minutes to park there than having to deal with a violent encounter. Not all of this will always work, but there are a bunch more ways if you think for a second. Most of them are worth trying before getting ready to stab someone with a pen. That is something to do, when the situation is already way more out of hand.

Yeah, I think that 99% of self-defence comes to avoiding the conflict. It is good to have Plan B, and Plan C, so you are not taken by surprise, but by making smart choices lots of dangerous situations can be avoided. Especially if you are aware of your surroundings.

I made a comment long ago on an earlier account. Great info, fixed-head pens are best, and use something stronger than a bic or a staedtler. Face and throat all the way for pen defence, but only use a weapon when you absolutely have to, and always obey weapons laws. Thanks Nick for teaching me the art of pen-fu.

Another good video from Nick. When I use to commuter thru "rough areas" I'd always have a newspaper at hand...rolled up tight...it a good "first line" of defence. As Nick says a pen used in this manner is for extreme defense...i.e one is threatened by someone with say a knife or needle.

Loved the vid, Nick! Anyone can agree that in an extreme situation (i.e., life or death), I'd rather risk jail than death. Fighting isn't fair, safe, or sane so your video was great for thinking on your feet...especially if size or ability is your disadvantage. Thank you!

Some of you showed your reasonable concerns about killing the guy, and that's something I'm pretty sure Nick already acknowledged long before making the vid. I gotta say, however, when you're facing life and death situation, you might not have a choice. The pen is really dangerous or lethal, but even that may not bring the adversary down. It only makes your attack more effective. And with enough training, you can use it against less lethal targets and just generate terrible pain to make the adversary back off, or buy some time to escape.

Good Video but a Pencil is way more effective than a pen. I can't explain why but they tested it on ZGB and the Pencil made it trough the skull, while the pen just broke
