I like just using a metal figure 8 that way i dont have to pull the whole rope through. I trim in Phoenix and we have to use 200 foot rope to do many 100 foot palms. I learned a technique using the bottom 14 to 18 inches of the last frond wedged in sideways amongst remaining fronds to act as a crotch. It has on a rare occasion slipped off when side loaded but it just gets harder to descend as there is more friction as it gets caught in the fresh cut frond bases. Then it's a bear to pull the rope out but when i use the fric saver its pretty often a bear to get out on its own and when it does finally come down i have to be concerned with the metal rings coming down on things breaking stuff like roof tiles for example.

Another thing i like to do is use a 5 gal bucket for rope. Put it in randomly and lit will never tangle coming out during ascent and descent. Another good trick to have is srt for majorly overgrown palms so you can climb up the outside and start at the top which totally avoids the whole death trap of collapsing and falling old frond bunches.
@adamstruthjourney1226
@adamstruthjourney1226 5 жыл бұрын
But if you are going to double rope a overgrown tree its a great idea to set a fric saver with your rope ready and loaded in it and attached to harness and raise it up palm along with your flip line so that in the event of a collapse you can disconnect the flipline and descend with the collapsed section to safety.

Adam's Truth Journey might have to take bucket tip my friend I personally don’t use the figure 8 because in my experience, it slips sometimes. I also agree on the srt, but anything over 30ft, I can’t really get a good shot with the throw line... Might have to get that launcher ?

if I'm not using a spiced eye, I load the rope through the bottom of the zigzag. this saves a ton of time and energy. although, the end of your rope cannot be frayed or it's almost impossible to push it through. also, try tying a figure eight, they're quick and easy to break for untying. stay safe and good luck!

hemicharged70 I understand where your coming from, when I uploaded this video, I uploaded it KNOWING, I didn’t have a splice eye. NOW I do, that’s all I use. Figure 8 has been proven to not be a study knot. Just be careful if you’re using the figure 8.... We’re in 2019 not the 80s

When using a retrievable friction saver, you don't need to back the rope out of your ZIGZAG first. You can leave the ZIGZAG attached and use the other end of the rope that is attached to the carabiner. The trick is to enter in through the small ring first (Green side goes on same side as your ZIGZAG). I was taught that if you think of it like a gun shot wound, small hole enter, and large hole for exit. Give that a try, it'll save you so much time, you can basically leave your ZIGZAG attached all the time.

So PLEASE, next time you decide to come at me but delete your little comment. Dude- your video made me cringe, then almost cry. You should learn and use ANSI standards for pruning palms. You committed three major errors in your technique, each of which could cause the death of that tree in the not so distant future. I get that 9 of 10 customers wants the lowest cost job they can find, but doing it wrong and killing their tree is not what they had in mind. Not trying to be harsh on you- just want to encourage you to become better. I see more palm trees killed by tree care workers who don't know the techniques spelled out in ANSI than from any other cause- it's one of my pet peeves because it is so easy to do correctly, but once the damage is done it cannot be reversed. You can get ANSI standards in English or Spanish from ISA or TCIA for about $10. Knowledge is our best investment. :)
