Thanks a million. This video is wonderful. You are the BEST. 🎉 I am about to re seat all my taps here, in my 1942 apartment. I have the re seating tool already, but didn't realize the second; "screw down for firmness", part of the apparatus. ✍🔧👼 Most educational. Especially loved you filming the shiny brass, as the re seating tool started to do its job, of re leveling the tap seat. That was so empowering. I've always been a bit unsure as to how many turns to do, and the "What am I trying to see" factor. It all makes sense the moment that I see your good work here. This video has eased my nerves, no end. 😆😂🤣🙏✍📝✏🗝🔧 My co worker Matt, explained the basic steps of "changing a tap washer/valve/stopper", (a decade ago), and I have been doing my own repairs ever since. It's a real self esteem boost to be able to handle most repairs around my own dwelling. I'm on a very humble wage, so the money I save doing everything myself, is a game changer. (Paying the mortgage solo) God bless you, for taking the extra time to share this with us all. Loved the verbal knowledge exchange the entire time. Such wisdom, on each step. Confirmed all the conscientious little things, that I also do, while repairing the taps.🙏🔧 Love in our Lord Jesus Christ, Princess Holly 👸🕊🌿🌳🌲🍀🌱🌴🕊

Hey Princess Holly, what a lovely comment to get today, One more thing I've learnt since ...once the tap is reassembled, don't close it down, instead leave the tap slightly open and as you turn the water back on it will flush away any filings from your grinding and not imbed them into the new valve. thank you (and god bless back at you).

Thanks so much Kent. I'm a 64 year old woman and after having a younger male friend change the washer in my bathroom hot tap it still leaked, both dripping and leaking out around the spindle. Following your video I was able to buy one of the reseating tool and service the spindle and reseat the tap with no more leaks. I love the way people like you share your knowledge and skills to help others get things done.

Just a helpful tip ive learnt, turn on the mains water first before closing the tap, helps to wash out any fillings on the seat, if i single file gets on the seat and on the washer, the drip will never stop

@@martintheron1386 You can not,,, you brought the wrong Tap Re-seat tool ( i think ),,, always check you threads before buying the tool,, it will be either a course thread or fine thread,,, just turn your water Off and then remove your Spindle and take it to your local Hardware store if you don't know,,, they will help you out-.

Hi Kent, Im a sorta newby in the DIY stakes but gaining confidence with the types of stuff youve shown here with the taps(indoor and outdoor). Changing the washers and cleaning the faucet with new o-rings, I did that to a couple of my taps. I do have one tricky job to do yet...my laundry tap(same sorta thing as your kitchen tap replacement video) would be super simple BUT... the damn nut under the sink looks to be RUSTED ON !! Bugger. I might have to 'muscle' that one off to extract the culprit I reckon. I have stop valves on my laundry tap so water fountains shouldnt be happening. I dont have proper plumber tools for that nut so like yourself...Im going to use an extension on my ratchet socket set...should sort it. BTW..Kent, it just so happens your name + surname by coincidence are my FIRST TWO names! ... (not my surname though). My initials are KTB. I had to look twice to see that Google wasnt playing tricks on me in the name thing... ps..your vids are super clear to watch and understand. Now if I could just figure out why my shower has the least pressure in my whole house it'd be a perfect world. I had a plumber in and he did a new kitchen tap install and all my tap washers too at the time, but he couldnt tell me a good reason on the shower (lack of) water pressure. Other bathroom taps have great pressure! ....... cheers to ya. 😁

I know this is an old video but I thought I would comment on the technique. My reading of the instructions, having dived in without reading the instructions initially, is that the collar is not for applying pressure to the cutter. If you use it for that purpose it will bind and you end up gouging grooves into the seating face. In fact I believe it should be backed off so that it almost holds the cutter off the seat. Hold in place and then skim the seat, slowly winding the collet in until the cutter moves smoothly without any chatter. This ensures the face is smooth and level and there is no danger of gouging and damaging the sealing face.

is there also a drill version of this as i've seen other people use it to reseat taps? I guess this more "manual", "less modern" version would be more slow and therefore careful in not reseating too far as I understand that causes problems too.

Thanks for the video, it was helpful. In my case the seat was the only problem, but my tool was old and the middle tensioning section took a while loosen so the grinder would stop digging in. Probably due to my using direct from creek water, there was significant corrosion, and it took about 100 turns to get to the shiny metal. The teeth of the grinder end were full.

Good video, I've used an old one of these but its a drill attachment and overkill for everyday, so good to see the big green sheds one in action. Most cross taps (as in I've never seen one without in 10 years of handy womaning) have a security nut underneath so you can remove the handle so you can get the handle off and take off the flange and have full access to the spindle for inspection/maintenance, you need a tool called an anti-vandal tap spanner to release it its basically a bent two prong fork. Its always best to take the head and flange off completely rather so you can clean/lubricate all the thread connections and make sure the handle isn't getting stuck with grime/scale in the anti-vandal nut thread, and also then you don't have to be so careful when using the spanner as most of the pretty parts are safely out of the way.

BIG mistake mate !! you should leave the tap turned on as you turn on the water supply to flush out any swarf(filings) out of the body of the tap to prevent the debris from embedding itself in the new washer and possibly score the new seat you have just made in the tap body. This can be a little messy unless the water supply shut off valve is near the tap you are sorting out enabling you to shut it off quickly after the "grindings" as you refer to them as have cleared the tap body cavity.

@@InspireDIY Thanks mate and just for the money you don't really need one of those kits you can buy just the new "O" rings and body washer (it is very often the case that the old is reusable or use some of that white PTFE plumbers tape) so the body washer unless really chewed up the old one will suffice. Dad and I used to use just plain old Vaseline for the lubricant (it lasts forever) and on taps that can be completely disassembled we used to clean the inside of the tap body where the spindle goes through with a few twists of a fine steel wool and just enough to take off any calcium build up (and just flush out the debris if any). The washer itself I find that "Doust" brand tap washers are really good even if the seat has not been ground down (in an emergency) that will give you an extra bit of time to get the other tap sealing components. The body I find needs cleaning from time to time as the crud does build up under what you refer to as the hood I do them every few months when cleaning the bathroom. But just use the method that suits you really. Just a word of caution only buy a good tap reseating tool because some of the cheaper ones have too much "play" between the spindle and spindle guide😉
