Use a container to mix your resin that is twice the volume of the amount of resin because when degassing the resin, it will expand and flow out of your container. Then once the resin is DEGASSED-bubbles removed in the vacuum-THEM POUR THE GAS FREE RESIN INTO YOUR MOLD.

I got the 5 gal model. I liked this video as I haven't used mine yet, but it would've been a little more helpful if you showed what buttons to push, levers to pull, and how to add more oil. Thanks for taking your time to show us this though!
@abstractboss

Thanks for the feedback! There is only one button on mine (off and on) so I didn’t think that was necessary. Also, I made sure to point out the direction of the levers, and said I only used the red lever to open and close. That’s all mine needed. Not sure what the 5 gallon has. Oil also has only one spot to go. I pointed out that it says gas but that’s where I put the oil at the beginning of the video. Mine had a fill line on the side so I also didn’t think that was necessary but I’ll be more detailed next time. Thanks!

just got my vacuum chamber and jumped right in too, same results as the start of this video. But prior to me getting the vacuum chamber, when talking to a guy who does all kinds of resin pours, he just told me you run the chamber and the bubbles will foam at the top and them all just burst and you're good, so I ran the thing as high as it could go and it just made a volcano of mess... I'm kind of missing my pressure pot right now, but I need to prevent the concaving I get that creates the sharp edges at the opening...

Hi, Thank you so much for this video. I just received mine and setting things up soon. Mine looks just like yours from amazon same color and mine is a 1 gallon with no instructions only for the pump. I thought this was so funny that when you read the pump book on the how to fix, it stated one answer-"Fix It" lol wow. Mine is from Bestauto. I did notice a plastic top on the gauge and I guess you leave it on when in use? I haven't used mine yet and will keep you posted. Thank you again.

@@abstractboss just afyi if no one has told you in 4 years this isnt how you use a vacuum pot. you mix your resin with color then put that in a cup inside the vacuum chamber, to de-gas it, then you pour your mold since all the bubbles are gone from the mixing.

This is the first time I've seen someone doing it with their mold, most of them have been doing it before they pour their mold. Always interesting to see different takes. I just bought one and it will be delivered next week I've been doing resin for the last month and it seems like the last few batches have had more bubbles than the last due to the weather being so cold in recent weeks. The degassing chamber should help with that. I'll have to try both ways and see. I'll get back to you if you respond

You leave the pump on and when the bubbles are about to overflow, use the red isolation valve (what you call a toggle) and open to allow the pressure to equalise. Rinse and repeat. Eventually it will get to a point where there are no bubbles being pulled from the resin. You should not have to use a flame at any point other than maybe right at the end if you feel it necessary 👍

This is so cool. I wish they had huge sizes so you could fit a lot of projects in at once. Then leave them all in to cure overnight. Can I ask what made you choose this over a pressure pot? Have you ever tried spraying 91% isopropyl alcohol to pop bubbles instead of a torch? It works really well 😊
@abstractboss

they do have larger sizes! :D I added some to my amazon link. I chose this because I don't feel confident enough to turn a paint pressure pot spray thing into a resin pressure pot. Great video! The small red cap is the oil intake actually. The big cap is the Exhaust cap. That's why it has TINY holes in it for the exhaust to escape. You don't really want to put oil in that way. It took me hours or research and figuring out how they are built and how they actually work mechanically to find out which cap to pour the oil in LOL. I was sooo frustrated by the time i REALLY figured it out. Thank you for your video, I have experience using this with silicone but I needed a resin video. ❤❤ if you read this let me know what your thoughts are on the caps cause it was so hard for me to figure that out 😭 thank you!
@timberhoff

Red cap actually has “oil” written on it but the manual suggests to add oil through exhaust cap which is weird. Just a note, that oil fills up quite fast on oil level glass so adding oil slowly is preferred.

I know nothing about resin, I came here for the vacuum chamber. Just a thought, could you not have the resin in a large container, put it in the vacuum chamber, let it do it's thing and then pour the resin into the mould? That way you could let the chamber draw more gas out without having to release the pressure so often. It's how I treat plastisol when making soft plastic lures.
@abstractboss
@abstractboss 4 жыл бұрын
what a great suggestion! I'll have to give that a try. I feel like that would work but I've never done it that way haha the only thing I would have to watch out for is the working time and making sure that the resin isn't sitting in the container too long because it will start to cure. the more resin in the container, the faster the cure

With silicone it's best to degass it before pouring. Degassing the silicone will remove 99% of air, then when you pour the silicone in a thin stream into your mould and let it naturally vent while it cures, most of the other 1% will usually rise to the top and burst.

But I received a pair of metal washers, a pair of silicon washers and a pair of o-rings. Hey, this might be helpful to know for your workflow. You already figured out, vacuum chambers are used to degas resin (remove air from the resin), there's no reason to do this in your final mould. It's a lot easier to degas the resin components before mixing them. That way you can use two big cups with sufficient space for the resin to foam up and sink back down and you can fill your mould to the rim when pouring outside the vacuum chamber. If there are any flaws in the silicone mould, casting under vacuum can even make flaws worse. You saw how the resin foams up in a vacuum? That also happens inside your mould. If there's a little pit or divot in the silicone, the vacuum can stretch that out, making lump on your cast. Degassing before mixing should remove most of the air from the resin. If you want to go an extra step, you can put your mould with the resin in a pressure pot. This will do the opposite and compress any remaining bubbles so small you won't even see them. And since a pressure pot pushes things together, you won't have that foaming up issue. There's a lot of tutorials online for converting spraypaint pressure pots for resin casting.

Araceli Aranda definitely! I just don’t have my chamber with me. It’s still with all my household goods in NC so it’s gonna be like end of summer 😂

Wow! Thank you for this tip Merijn. Just put the resin in the vacuum pot, not the resin which has been already poured in the molds.

It was suggested by Amazon. I don’t have it with me to confirm exact name but you know how Amazon has a spot under the product that says “add all three to cart”? It was in that area and I added it when I bought it.

I believe you had to do it 5 times because: you need to tighten it, also put resin into a big container (at least 2 times the volume of resin)..

It's used for threads at the end of the hose to attach to pump. Put the tape on the threads on the fitting at the pump. make sure your tape is wrapped in the proper directing too,so when tightening the nut onto the fitting, it's going WITH it, NOT AGAINST it.
