Instruction coming with win-o-meter sound little complicated, This video makes it very simple. Thank you.

I am so glad it helped. Keep safe.

Thanks for the video! My vinometer's instructions read "put down on flat surface" and I was wondering if I was doing something wrong when the wine kept spilling. This explains a lot!

Exactly... the instructions that come with it are quite confusing

Wow that some cool physics. Appreciate the demo!

I remember I bought my first vinometer in 1973 for $3.00. That was a lot of money back then.
@LearnHow23 жыл бұрын
Ha! Have you still got it? Keep safe.

@@LearnHow2 Sadly, no. It eventually disappeared. Within the past ten years I bought another one for around $3.50. And now I can’t find it, either. It is probably going to be cheaper to replace it than to waste time looking for it, but we’ll see.

Hi! Thanks for the info! Just got myself one of these. The problem that I see is that the line is not quite so visible even though I used very dark red wine (I can't recall what type). I will need to figure this out as I am using the vinometer with cider (I also use a densimeter). LOL, my house is starting to look like a chemistry lab :)

These things are not that accurate and can be thrown out by residual sugar content among other things.

How much time approximately it takes wine to start dripping frm the bottom. I poured wine and waited for few miutes but it didn't go through.

Have anyone tested a vinometer on hard cider? I will soon try my first batch of hard cider and I have a vinometer from my mom's winemaking days and want to know if I can use it or if I have to invest in a hydrometer?
@AndrewDeLong Жыл бұрын
What kind of accuracy does this have when put up against a properly used hydrometer?
@jeffpenner68688 жыл бұрын
Thank you for posting! I am making mead at the moment. The vinometer is reading 22%, yet my hydrometer isn't giving a read on it. I'm still trying to figure out what to expect.
@darrengodfrey16142 жыл бұрын
I make mead too. Check out micro meads and brewers Facebook group. Your hydrometer won't of given a reading as the alcohol content will be higher than on your wand lol.the vinometer will be right then!.

Is it okay to use it before the fermentation and after fermentation?
@LearnHow22 жыл бұрын
It is best when the wine is clear. Any yeast and particles during fermentation may give false readings. Keep safe.
@ludi2shoes9 жыл бұрын
Every wine I use it on reads 6% abv. And I know for a fact they are stronger. Did I get a bad one or what?
@hugeshows9 жыл бұрын
Milo Abel Forget my first answer, it was rubbish. You could have a bad one, but there are many things that can throw one of these off. Any CO2 in the wine will throw it off, any residue of soap in the tester, or for that matter any residue at all that can effect surface tension of the liquid being tested. Too much sugar in the wine, etc. Search around and you'll see that these tools are flawed when it comes to accuracy on a good day, and on a bad one, completely misleading.

Hi. How to proceed in the case of white wines? Thanks.
@LearnHow22 жыл бұрын
Hi Cristy. Its the same method.
@cristy26362 жыл бұрын
@@LearnHow2 I tried to measure the volume of alcohol in a rose wine and I can't read anything. The lighter the color, the more difficult it is to identify the liquid column. In my opinion it is only good for red wines. The darker the color, the better.
@LearnHow22 жыл бұрын
@@cristy2636 Darker colors are easier but if you use a torch or a light to illuminate the liquid then the level is easily visible - I tried this with water and it was ok.

Hello, at what temperature should it be measured?
@LearnHow2 Жыл бұрын
Take a look at the instructions that come with the vinometer. I would say about 21 degC.
@Buongona Жыл бұрын
@@LearnHow2 mine came with instruction of 15 degC...but I seem to get bubbles with my mead, witch is really messing up the measurement...I'm also tasting some residual sugars, like maybe 5%of original sweetness, is that bad? I used turbo yeast(205g) that became 3L of lees by the end of 24h period when it consumed about 6kg of sugar in a 22L of water+juice and some raisins. So based on input I'm expecting to see 10-15% but all my measurements go off the charts with vinometer at correct temp and the dipper is now waiting for the racked concoction to reach 20 degC because at +6 degC it sais 0% Do you know how to deal with those pesky bubbles?

I pretty disappointed in the wines that I have, as the white wine gives 5% and the red ones from 7% to 7,8%...

maybe you have calmed down by now - if not, easy fix put a small amount of (NON ALCOHOL BASED) dye. I have found fountain pen ink ok
