Thanks for this video. I was about to throw my propane gas fire pit away until I saw your video and learned that I opening the regulator wide open was not the right thing to do. Thank you very much.

I was hoping for advice about a regulator that was stuck i.e. you turn it to open and nothing flows, even after multiple resets. I got it to work once by tapping it. The second time I disconnected the hose at the regulator and put in some WD-40 and tapped it. Came loose. Did my best to dump out any extra solvent, re-taped the threads (although I probably should have used a propane sealant of some sort but it is on the low pressure side of the regulator) and bingo! Ran without lighting for 10 seconds or so just to make sure the solvent was out. Fantastic because most stores don't sell these things.

Does the key valve have the same function as a high to low adjustment knob?
@StarfireDirect Жыл бұрын
Generally, yes. A key valve and a high/low adjustment knob both act as a valve. However, if you're referring to the knob on the top of a propane tank, no, since that doesn't function in the same manner. That valve is more or less open/shut for propane.

If I put on my barbecue would that be ok Weber summit
@StarfireDirect2 жыл бұрын
Probably would be too much unless you dialed it down to what the input requirement is for the Weber. Also, we stopped selling these adjustable regulators because users had trouble figuring it out. You can still purchase these online from other retailers though.

Thanks for the tutorial. One question: Do I need a key valve, or does the adjustable regular function as a shut off valve as well?
@StarfireDirect3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you will still need a valve inline between the burner and regulator. The reasons are 1) legally, you should have a shut off valve within 60" of any appliance (burner), 2) the valve creates back pressure which tells the regulator to turn on or shut off, and 3) you use the valve to control the flame height, not the regulator or propane tank. Great question!
@LarryeWhite61 Жыл бұрын
Why don't you have a 0-3lb gauge in the line so people can see how to set up the pressure properly? Just turning the regulator dial is guessing at the psi to whatever the hookup is.
@StarfireDirect Жыл бұрын
Good point, but that can always be added separately. This is the way the hose this particular item comes, and if someone wants one with a gauge built in, they can certainly do so.

How do you get rid of hissing at the propane tank side of things. I’ve got a non whistle hose so it’s not coming from the fire pit
@StarfireDirect4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question! Hissing in a fire pit or fire pit setup can be caused by a few different issues and solutions can differ depending on your setup. Please give our helpful Starfire Team a call at (866) 578-8538 and we may be able to help you find a solution.

Should I use a low pressure or high pressure regulator for a 7 gallon propane tank.
@StarfireDirect3 жыл бұрын
A 7 gallon tank is only capable of producing around 100k BTUs, so you'll want a regulator that is a) designed for your tank typically with a type 1 connector, and b) provides a flow of gas in relation to what your tank can produce. In this case, 100k BTU. If you get a regulator that's designed for 200k BTUs, it will work but as soon as you turn the gas valve all the way up, your tank will shut down since it can't keep up with the demand. It's always best to size your components according to the input and output capabilities.
@josephmyers14923 жыл бұрын
@@StarfireDirect Thanks for that part of the puzzle info. How do we determine how much BTU's a regulator can handle ?.
@StarfireDirect3 жыл бұрын
@@josephmyers1492 it's not always easy. Most standard BBQ regulators are going to be around 80-100k BTUs because they typically attach to a standard 20lb tank, so it makes sense to size the regulator to the tank most commonly used.
@josephmyers14923 жыл бұрын
@@StarfireDirect Upon closer examination, the regulator was rated at 1 psi. No wonder I couldn't get some reasonable flame for my firepit, Went to a 30 psi regulator.................stand back. 10psi would have been plenty. Thanks for your info.

Im using a 200000btu burner on a pool heating furnace. It origionally allowed me to have big hot consistant flames. Now i cant run it unless its on low, and on low the flames coming out are spotty. Ive tries to reset it and will try again but it hasnt helped. Does this mean i cant run a burner like this at full?
@jburlingham994 жыл бұрын
If you're using a standard 20# BBQ tank, these are only capable of supplying a max of 90k BTU's. If you're trying to use a 20# tank to fuel a 200k BTU appliance, this tank is not strong enough and the burner will not work as intended.
@arielrodriguez9753 жыл бұрын
Isn't slightly turning on the tank the same thing?
@StarfireDirect3 жыл бұрын
Not really. The LP tank valve is mainly designed to be turned ON or OFF. It's not designed to be a "regulator" of sorts, to adjust the volume of gas going to the appliance. Once turned ON, the tank lets out the full capability, and that's when the regulator comes into play, controlling the flow of gas to the appliance.

If you don't know what you are doing get a professional. In the last 11 months 5 homes have been destroyed by gas leaks, just in my small Midwest state. Would you try bomb defusing based on internet comments.
@StarfireDirect Жыл бұрын
Typically, the items we offer are safe for homeowners to assemble and use, assuming instructions are followed correctly. Our videos and guides are meant to show how a professional would install. Interestingly enough, 99% of the time issues are not product related, rather they are caused by installer error. So I'd say you're spot on! We've seen and heard of many homeowners and contractors that installed gas appliances wrong which lead to accidents. Always consult with a licensed and insured professional. These videos are meant to help and instruct, but are no replacement for quality installations.
