I've had a similar problem and used the same bead sealer and it has worked great. The one thing I'd warn people about is if you use the bead blaster like you did, be prepared for the sealer to splatter while that torrent of air is flowing. It sent droplets all over me and anything within a few feet. When it comes time to remove the tire in the future, it is only slightly more difficult to break the bead and the sealer comes off the rim with minimal work. Some people have commented that you used too much sealer. Well, it's hard to precisely paint it on in that confined space. I think that it's better to have too much and seal the bead than miss a spot and get a slow leak. Once the tire is inflated, the excess squirts out and can easily be wiped away.

Use your knees to kneel on the tire while the wheel is laying on the floor. Get in there with a steel brush to clean the wheel rim, then use some compressed air to blow out the dust/rust followed by some soapy water to wipe clean. **Now use the bead seal**

Informative video. Great product. Found bead sealer at Oreillys for about $12.99 a can. I cleaned the tire. I then ran a ratching tension strap around the tire, after adding the bead sealer, to force tire bead against the rim. Then ran a 110-volt craftsman air compressor to fill our snowblower tire with air and fix the bead seal. A few issues though: 1. You get a larger can of bead weld than really needed for small jobs, like hand truck pneumatic tires, wheelbarrow tires or snowblower tires. It only came in 1 size can though. 2. ASK a CSR for this item, as it is kept BEHIND the counter. (probably to prevent theft and/or prevent huffing by youngsters). 3. consistency is like that of pancake syrup. So be prepared to work fast once you start applying it. It tends to drip a lot. Got our snowblower back online and working great, right before a snowstorm.

Hmm. I've got 2 slow leaks on my drive tires and no noticeable damage to the tires. Even the garage I brought the car to couldn't find any issues. I might have to try this as a buddy of mine told me aluminum rims tend to have this issue. If I'm going to have to replace the tires anyway, I might give this a shot first. I wish I knew more about cars. I'm a computer nerd.
@John-d5i8v

Aluminum rims tend to corrode easier than metal/black rims. Usually by the wheel weight is for balancing the tire. Easiest way to diagnose a rim leak is to spray soapy water on the rim when it’s aired up and on the car. Just look for the bubbles. Check inside and out of rim. You can also spray the whole tire as well to check for any nails that may be puncturing the tire or anything like that. Just look for foamy bubbles… bubble means ya got a leak.

Also I wouldn’t replace tires for a rim leak as it’s not the tire. I used to work at Conrad’s back in the day and they will sell people like you 4 pairs of tires in a heartbeat when they know dam well it’s the rim that needs cleaned up and bead sealer applied. Can of bead sealer is 15$ or pay 500$+ for tires you didn’t need. I ain’t a pc nerd but I know I could buy some shit with 500$+

I have a keep 09 liberty with the original aluminum rims that leaked as much as 10 psi in 24 hours when it was cold. I had new tires on the same rims with xtra bead seal with no leaks at all even in cold weather. Highly recommended.

oh wow didnt know you could also apply it to the tire in addition to the wheel, i accidentally ripped a small chunk off a tire while mounting on a sharp steel wheel, i applied bead seal liberally to the edge of the wheel and it worked. i might break the bead and apply more to the tire as well

Darryl Mc Donald I just bought one from Amazon (it's on it's way - I hope to get it by this coming weekend). Anyway, just search for '5 gallon bead sealer' at amazon.com (or search for the 10 gallon version for a more powerful unit). Actually, I got off my lazy arse and decided to post these links to both versions. I bought the 10 gallon version. $51.89 (5 gallon) bead seater: www.amazon.com/dp/B075431DKH $66.99 (10 gallon) bead seater: www.amazon.com/dp/B075425V9Y $52 vs $67. I figure it's worth it to spend the extra $15 to double the capacity/power. If these 2 don't interest you, you should still be able to easily find several others for sale at amazon in the $50-$90 range. FWIW: I really wish Harbor Freight sold them (and I'm kinda surprised they don't). I'd rather pay a little more $ at my local store to be able to have the ability to more easily deal w/a local store - face to face... than to deal w/3rd party sellers on amazon - you know... if there should ever be a problem... but most reviews seem 'favorable' - so if I can get a couple of year's use out of this, I'll be quite happy.

the yellow tank, sometimes called an air cannon, air blaster, or bead blaster, its just a tank a compressed air with a funnel to direct the air and a hook you are supposed to place against the rim. always use earplugs or hearing protection with them.

Ha! Dude watch some videos of wheels exploding ( not any I saw were split rim) .. dont think but a few actually died but everybody got fucked up enough to have to go to the hospital. Now the really crazy ones i have seen of split rims is when theyre taking the tire off.. not filling so dont think you do know what your talking about cuz they lock and filling is not hairy at all.. the video about the guy who was trying to change the split on the big rig jacked up the ring came off so fast it blew the man to the roof of the gas station he was at and cookie cutterd his body leaving a circle dent where he hit the roof.. fucked. But ive seen many a video where the bead was damaged on the tire and filing with just air compressor it blew the dudes in the air if they were over top it and tore the shirts and cut up the dudes just standing in front.. that mexican that does two flips in the air.. or the one where dude blows the tire out the sidewall and completely fucks the entire shop up with bay door blown out, fluorescent lights hanging and shit everywhere.. lol and if your a mechanic at all and have worked at any tire place or dealership theres always a new guy sooner or later that blows one out on the tire machine filling without a valve in the stem.. but nobody really uses cages as your right there but the fuckers do blow if not put on right or a bead wire is fucked up and dont notice.. or trying to stretch a tire on and melt the shit with ether trying to seat it then when you get it on the thing fuckin warts out all the sudden and causes poo to eject from your stank hole .. i watched a guy one time, off topic but funny, dude had his dually on the 4 post and one of the sides of the lift was low on fluid so it would sag when lifting, especially when loaded good. Well he had the idea to put one of those blue plastic barrels under it as a stand while he lowered the lift to take pressure off and fill the fluid.. well that barrel fukin was right next to dude when he was lowering the lift and a big o bubble warted out right at the top of the barrel at nut height.. that sombitch blew and caused his nuts to pack up and move out his sack into his gut somewhere and said took 2 whole days to bloop back out.. said was worse experience hes ever had.. lol yea.. for sure.. dude went down like a rock holding his nuts and not making a sound except gurgling.. amber lights come took em.. ha! Dont be a dumb ass and youll be alright.. dont stick your fingers in places and protect your nuts..

Used a Cheetah or “bead seater”. After mounting the tire, some will usually be a bit too narrow from sitting/stored, leaving a gap between the tire bead and wheel rim. . . . . or just from people wanting tires with very narrow profiles on wider wheels, they prefer the look of “stretched” tires on wheels. Most passenger cars and truck factory tire sizes should air up/seat with out it though.
