How to use Sierra Chart's "Chart Replay" Feature to Become a Better Trader

One of the best things you can do as you progress in your journey as a professional trader is to continually improve your technical and mental skills. Thanks to TRADEPRO Academy, I have discovered Sierra Chart’s Chart Replay feature which allows you replay intraday charts so that you can practice and/or back test a strategy.
In this video I breakdown how to set up two charts with basic studies, and a DOM with the Chart Replay feature.
After this video you will be able to easily practice trading using Sierra Chart’s free trial. However, my recommendation is to setup a brokerage account with AMP Futures, since they offer the basic version of Sierra Chart for free.

****IMPORTANT DO THIS BEFORE STARTING A REPLAY****
-Make sure all the charts have the number of days to load, same session times and are linked with the same number.
-Under Global Settings | Symbol Settings, make sure you select "Yes" for Record Market Depth Data for all the symbols you want to back trade. Also make sure the session times match the charts you are using in the Chart Replay.
-Make sure to click "Do Not Clear Trade Data for Symbol and Account" otherwise the recorded market depth data will be erased.

I have been using SC for 3-4 years now. SC is the best working platform in both windows 7 and ArcoLinux . ArcoLinux is running in DDR2 8gb memory[old computer] and no lag SC, 8 windows chart open synced even in replay. The best replay I had ever seen compared to Ninjatrader . ThinkorSwim platform is a joke. with plenty of bugs and ONdemand is a school project never runs properly with futures. Eventually I moved to SC and revised my trading skills using replay almost everyday and happiest ever. I don't know, I am little bit different from others. I never got used to the DOM seperate windows. I always traded DOM attached with chart and very comfortable with it. I always have tradeWindow and DOM attached with every chart. So that any point of time I can trade with mouse click that specific future symbol. Very good presentation, thanks for uploading.

Thanks and no problem! I do love SC for a lot of things over ThinkOrSwim, especially the speed, functional trading replay, and automated trading. I currently use ToS because of the custom studies I have created, but eventually could move to SC, or TradingView. That's my plan anyways :)

I am left Thinkorswim as of today it is a complete joke. So I may go with Sierra charts or multicharts12 and I don't know which one to choose.

hey great video, do you happen to kno why in the first dom (at right about 10min) you had double digit values in the bid size/buy column, but in the second dom (at 15:57) theres only the number 1 showing in the same colum? Im setting up sierra and my dom looks like your second dom in the buy and sell size colum in sim mode and i cant figure out whats going on

i i use vwap,footprint, comulative delta what do i need to do to be able to replay a session like it was a real trading day. And i also want to trade the market when i replay. I want to create a simulation of a normal trading day.

Hey John. When you use Chart Replay in Sierra Chart I believe this already happens as long as you make sure you set Record Market Depth Data under Symbol Settings to Yes for the ticker you trade.

William Buckley click the DOM then you hit F5 for chart settings, make sure the Days to Load is the same or more then the smallest number set on all the charts you want to replay. Also make sure under Advanced Settings 2 you set the same Link Number.

You can use TradingView. But honestly for futures it’s worth paying the money to practice on Sierra chart since it’s accurate. You could even use Tradovate. Definitely with topstep since there’s a playback feature.

What are your biggest struggles right now: psychology or having profitable strategy? I’m assuming the former. In that case you have to be extremely self aware of your thoughts that lead to both negative (losing money, not following your plan, emotions doing the trading) and positive actions (you follow a system that makes money in the long run). The issues can be very specific to you. But trading a small amount of money and small position sizing can help mentally maintain your discipline.
