So for the C-pillar you could've technically sanded with 2000 grit all the way down to the gas cap and you'd be fine because you could just buff and polish the scuffed up clear coat back to life?
@6thGearGarage Жыл бұрын
I did a blend from 800 to 2000 because the clear coat is supposed to bond better to 800 grit. It's supposed to give it more to bite to, if that makes sense. That's why I started with 800 grit near the roof where I was clearing.

If I was repairing a very small (like almost head of a pencil size) paint chip on a 2k clear paint job, could I simply fill the chip in with the color coat, and then that dries, use this 1k spot blender as the clear coat itself?
@6thGearGarage11 ай бұрын
The spot blender is more like a thinner than an actual clear, So I would not use it that way. After the color dries, I'd spray some clear into a cap and use a tiny brush to cover the color. Duplicolor makes a touch up pen called All-in-1 that has the color and the clear, with a tiny foam brush to apply it.

I just yesterday got a piss-poor paint match from a local automotive paint store. The aerosol can of paint that they specially mixed for me using the paint code on the vehicle was nowhere near the colour of the original paint that was on the vehicle. Unfortunately, I didn't realize just how bad a match it was until after I used it to repair a patch on a door and after I had clearcoated over it. Is there any way that I can remove or remediate the new paint and clear application (1K Dupli-Color) without doing further damage to the original clear and paint below it? Thanks.

@btbd2785 Жыл бұрын
So this is not an " inner clear coat" or a "mid coat". I have watched videos where for example a person wants to paint a door panel in a Metallic black color as an example. Before the paint the panel they will spray a "clear base" or mid clear coat" on the entire door panel before painting and then clear coating. This will help to "blend the color of the door panel to the rest of the body to prevent fogging and allow the paint and metallics of the paint to blend in without having to paint into the next panel. This product seems similar but it's not correct?
