I have not been paying enough attention to the jib tell tails. Just assumed the main sail, being bigger should be my main focus. Thanks for your knowledge and clear communication on sailing cats.

Outstanding! Seems so simple and yet I know people that have been sailing for decades and they don't even have telltales on their jib, and many of those that do have no idea what they are nor how to use them. These are the people who can't get any speed or constantly get into irons. I try to explain it to people. A few take hold but others just think telltales aren't necessary and they say they'll continue to sail "by feel." Buddy Melges said that it is impossible to sail a boat efficiently without jib telltales - I'll go with him. Good explanation on your part by the way.

Thanks, yes, I am constantly looking at the telltales when i'm sailing - maybe i need to try without!

@@JoyriderTV I was thinking the same thing as I also constantly watch the wind indicator on the bridle wires, almost depend on it. I think there might be something to gain having to sail without it. Kinda like how a blind person develops other senses to compensate for lack of sight.

Hello Joseph, my name is Davide. Soon I want to mount the second trapeze on a Tornado 21 but I don’t know how to do. Can you please make a video explaining how to mount it? Thank you very much. @Joseph Bennett

Is it faster to zig zag downwind or go dead downwind if you want to go places? Great explanation, I really was looking forward to that one!
@JoyriderTV4 жыл бұрын
Yes, in most boast faster to do the 45 degree angles although on some smaller boats in light wind you may get to your downwind objective quicker by going straight.

The gap between jib and Main is importent. Narrow up wind. Wide downwind or high wind. A bulge in the Main is ok.?
@JoyriderTV4 жыл бұрын
You will always get a full sail on a 16 so the bulge is ok. As a general rule make sure that your jib and main traveller are doing the same thing.

Not all sails have windows nor supplied with telltales. Next time out, explain where to locate the telltales on the jib, and the main although on multi-hulls I tend to only use telltales on the leech.
@JoyriderTV4 жыл бұрын
Yes, on the boats with higher aspect sails - F18/ Tornado i'm using leech telltales (next video) I'll look into a - best position for telltales video

Thanks for the explanation. What is the best bio-degradable material for wind indicators? Your bay must be full of video tape by now.

Steve Rogers vertical strips won‘t show the wind direction - they need to be horizontal!
