#1 if it is Icy 4x4 isn't going to help you any more then 2 wheel drive you are going to slide around no matter what. I would never ever suggest to go from 2H to 4H or 4L while in motion. Please pull off to the side of the road and put it in park or neutral so you don't mess up something.

That is not a shifter gear and the other is not a transfer case shifter gear. It is a shift lever. Big difference.

Thanks for this video, very helpful. I recently bought a used 2016 wrangler, and soon after went on a long roadtrip across the states.... one day not too long ago i had driven down a sloping gravel&dirt road after it had snowed, and got stuck when i paused at the bottom. A guy showed up and helped me out by showing me how to get myself unstuck from the icy & muddy road. In park position(stationary) he shifted it into 4wH, then from park into neutral, and from 4wH to 4wL....then drove easily out of that mess. Since then i have been shifting into 4wdHigh from parked position. And also have been shifting from 4wH to 4wL (while in neutral first) always while not moving. After watching your vid i think Have i been doing damage to my car?

Very situational, please real your Jeep manual. If you're cruising on highway speeds on normal flat roads, no, leave at 2H. If you're encountering inclement weather at 45 MPH or below, yes on 4H. If you are hauling or encountering the need for power at around 5 MPH , yes on 4L.

Being in 4WD does not help against slipping or sliding in snow.
@BeardedDaddyD4 жыл бұрын
Yes it does. When you stomp on the brake and slide in your car only the front tires slide. 4wd all 4 tires will grab and stop you faster.
@kilroy25174 жыл бұрын
@@BeardedDaddyD um, huh? When you press the brake all the way it locks all four wheels. They're all sliding. If your brakes only lock up your front wheels, you should get your vehicle checked. There's a common misconception that 4WD helps cars handle and stop in snow and ice, and that's not true. It helps the car go, not stop.
@BeardedDaddyD4 жыл бұрын
@@kilroy2517 yes that is how brakes work. They're not 50/50. You put on the brakes and 70% goes to the front. Go and watch cars sliding on snow. Most cars only have the front wheels locked up and 4x4 have all 4. Believe what you want my 4x4 will stop faster than your car
@kilroy25174 жыл бұрын
@@BeardedDaddyD No, that's wrong. 70% of the stopping is done by the front wheels in most cars because most of the weight is in the front where the engine is, which is why front brake pads are so much larger than back pads, but that doesn't mean 70% of the brake pressure is being applied to the front. As you apply the brakes the body of the car tries to continue forward at its original speed, thus the weight of the car shifts forward, the suspension transfers that additional load to the front wheels and the front wheels do most of the stopping work. Sorry, you've got your logic backwards. IF your 4x4 stops faster than my car, it's the tires not the drive system.
@BeardedDaddyD4 жыл бұрын
@@kilroy2517 what you say is correct but my logic is not wrong. The front tires are doing the majority of the work during braking that's why they lock up on ice and snow. This causes them to brake differently. With my rear wheels being driven and stopped by the front brakes also all 4 tires are braking the same
