Hi Scott, I'm not sure why this video doesn't have 100K views. This is by far - THE BEST tutorial on this trigger. I've watched a bunch and this one just tops a lot of the crap I've watched. You get straight to the point, and never assume we know something... which I really appreciate. You know this trigger like the back of your hand..... did you help build it ? .. if not.. they should be paying you for showing how it works. Many are puzzled about this device on many different forums. A BIG thank you ! ( The truth about views - too many base their watching of a video on how many views a video has... I saw it as a suggestion on the right sidebar.... not many views..... hmmm... let's click ... and bingo ! gold ! ) That's the sad reality of KZbin. Keep up the great work Scott !

Scott. You’ve nailed it. I’ve got this device. And it works a treat. I wish this video was available last year: it would have saved me the weeks I spent learning how to use it. My first flash was the 600-EX RT II. after that I bought the 430-EX RT III. Only afterwards did I know that Yongnuo is better than the canon brand, BASED SOLELY ON PRICE. In fact this is better than Canin’d because their doesn’t have focus assist beam. Duh 🙄 Canon. It’s significantly cheaper than Canon’s not it’s not weather sealed. So. Use in dry weather and not in dusty environments. Great video as always Scott.

Thanks so much! I agree that for the price 3rd party flashes are totally killing it... be that Yongnuo, Godox or even some other brands. No doubt that CaNikon flashes are great quality, but for the price it's definitely not worth it for most. Everyone always says that they'll last you many more years but with the rates new innovations are coming out I don't think people would think twice about buying newer versions every few years anyway. I also think it's amazing that the Canon 600 EX-RT didn't have an S1/S2 pure optical trigger mode. Super annoying when I wanted to just quickly throw one up as a little accent/hair light together with some Elinchrom strobes. Thanks again for watching and commenting, I appreciate it! :)

Great video! Every now and then when I try to hit the group button to change the power of the flash it won't select it--thus I can't adjust the setting. I can take a shot adjust it. Then take another shot and try to adjust it but it then won't allow me to get into the adjustment. Any idea why that's happening? Thanks.

To switch the flash over into slave mode, you'll want to hold down the mode button and a menu of the different slave modes will come up for you to choose from :) Hope that helps! Thanks for watching :)

I was able to shoot at 96fps+ (still images) with ATG and Yougnuo transmitters on Sony DSC-RX10 IV (one Canon EOS-1D C and four Sony DSC-RX10 IV). Since the Canon EOS-1D C/Canon EOS-1D X II/EOS-1D X and Nikon D5 are only 16fps/14fps. This can be expensive, heavy and very noisy (due to shutter/mirror flapping). At the moment, it works only with ATG/Yougnuo/Canon transmitters (Canon has limited ranges) when using ATG & Canon 600EX series flashes only (has a remote trigger). My staff and I use above setup on Sony DSC-RX10 IV and connected/mounted on ATG MRMC or placed these cameras in deference angle or areas to get and nail those shots that can not be done on ours 1D C & D5. ATG stated that's why the RX10 IV has a $1,700.00 price tag while the ATG (modified to work with Canon/Jinbei RT) runs well over $14,000.00. As you can see, Yougnuo 600EX-RT II would be a much better price, provided if "Rel" and "LINK SHOT" can be enabled for the serious & working pros.

Scott.... What's the deal with the warning tag in the battery box not to use Li-Ion batteries with this? Does that mean we can't use Li-Ion external battery packs also???

Hi! I'm not sure actually... I checked in mine as well as looked through the manual, but didn't find any warnings about Li-Ion batteries or external battery packs, but both alkaline and rechargeable batteries should be fine. It's possible I'm missing something?

Hi Scott, II have the same trigger and the Yn-600 exRT flash. They connect via radio and the light turns green to indicate this but the flash does not fire. Would you know why?
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 6 жыл бұрын
Hi! It could be a couple of things although the green light is strange. When I first turned these on the flash or the trigger (I forget which) was set to the "auto" channel setting and the other was on channel 1, and because of this they weren't communicating. That would be my first guess but if that doesn't help let me know and I'll look into it a bit more.

hey Scott ;) i have question to you, do you preffer your 70-200 2.8 or 135 for portrait? Is bokeh much much better at f2 vs f2.8 at the same 135 focal lenght?
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 6 жыл бұрын
Hi! I would have to say I prefer the 85 1.2 haha. The 70-200 is beautiful and amazingly useful for events and the like, but for portraits I like to have a little bit less working distance from the model/subject. The 135 is great too but again, I like to be a little closer, 85mm is really my personal sweet spot. There's not a huge difference of f2 and f2.8 when at the same focal length (135mm)... it would be noticeable side by side, but if you're not comparing most people wouldn't notice. F2 can be useful for shooting in lower light though, a full stop more light giving you ISO 800 instead of 1600, or 1600 instead of 3200. On some cameras that can make a huge difference in image quality. Of course, the convenience of the zoom is a big plus with the 70-200 and if your model stays pretty still you can get away with lower shutter speeds in low light because of the IS. All 3 lenses (the 85, 135 and 70-200) have gorgeous bokeh but I think the difference will come down to compression/field of view, working distance and low light performance if you need that. Size and weight can also play into the decision and carrying around a 135 at a portrait shoot is a lot easier and more casual than a 70-200. I mention casual because there are times when that can help the model relax (and another reason I like the 85). I know that's not a direct answer to your questions but I hope it helps! :)

more over 85 mm 1.2 give more light inside camera so low light deficit . geting close to subject give more pure light.

Hey Scott, thanks for the videos they are very informative. I have a question regarding my 686 flashes and an E3RT transmitter. When using the transmitter as the master in ettl, it doesn't change the lens mm on the flashes. I have one flash that is "stuck" in "A""20mm" and the other in "A""35mm". When i use each flash on the camera individually the mm changes with the camera zoom no problem. But even if i use one flash as the master and the other flash as slave, the mm on the slave flash does not change when zooming in and out. Is this normal, not normal or?? I hope i didn't come off all discombobulated and you understand what I'm asking 😛 Thanks
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 6 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching! :) I don't have the flash on hand now but I can check later if this doesn't work... With Godox flashes this same problem came up and the solution was to make sure the slave flash's zoom settings are on auto, then that allows the master to control it. Check if that works and if not let me know, I'll look into it further. Thanks! :)

Scott Dumas thanks for the quick response! Yes, i can set them on about five or six different manual settings "M" "20 to 200mm" or somewhere in that range. There is only one auto "A" setting and one flash goes to "A" "20mm" and the other goes to "A" "35mm" and then they never change. Wish i could add a photo here so you could see the screens. I've emailed Yongnuo but as of yet i have not heard from them, assuming they even comprehend what I'm asking.

Scott Dumas, how do you setup the YN600EX-RT II into "LINKED SHOT"? And can the YN600EX-RT II be setup to "Rel" (release) mode?

Hi! Being totally honest I've never used the linked shot feature myself, so I'll have to test it out first to answer more accurately. If I don't get back to you feel free to send me an email and remind me :) scott@scottdphoto.com Thanks for watching!

Scott Dumas, then are you able to get into "LINKED SHOT and Rel" modes from YN600EX-RT II? I tried and was never able to get into those modes. Maybe I am doing something wrong & the manual is not very clear or tell much about it. The YN-E3-RT transmitter is not required for checking the flash modes.

The strange things, say if I used with the ATG Gold/Canon 600EX-RT/Canon 600EX II-RT (as wireless camera shutter/flash trigger) while a ATG/Canon/Yongnuo 2.4GHz Transmitter (on camera) it works both ways. Both ways mean = transmitter on camera while flash used as remote = flash on camera while transmitter as a remote. Just can't seem to get YN600EX-RT II and 1st version to go into "LINK SHOT" nor "Rel". I have contacted ATG staff and they have a nice sample on using their equipment doing wireless radio beyond a football field. I or them will be happy to forward that video to your email address (listed) if you like, just let me know?

Hi again Scott ! --- I'm back ! here's a really good question.... can I use 2 YN-E3-RT together so that I can control the flash output from my Yongnuo YN600EX-RT II flash ? I would like to be able to change the flash output using one of these YN-E3-RT controllers. One will be on my camera, the other I use as a "remote" to change the flash output..... I want to do this for bracketed shots where I don't want my camera to move while it is on a tripod. I've tried many things and cannot get this to work. Is there a way to do this ? So to clarify, I want to be able to change the flash settings with the 2nd YN-E3-RT that I would be holding in my hand... this would send that flash output change to the main YN-E3-RT that is on the camera..... - is this possible ?
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! I'm not 100% positive and I don't have multiples to try it myself, but I feel like you could set up the "linked shooting" to help you achieve that. It's quite complex to explain here, and again I haven't been able to try it myself, but you can read more about it here and hopefully that helps: www.yongnuo.fr/wp-content/uploads/notices/YN-E3-RT_en.pdf

Hello, I don't have the blitzer symbool under c.fn I have a yongnuo 565EXii . The link light is never green...? HELP.
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 6 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by the blitzer symbol :( As for the link light, is it triggering your flash? If not, double check the channel and group, and also that you haven't changed your ID number. If your flash is in the correct mode (radio slave, not optical slave) and the channel and group all match on the trigger and flash, but still they can't connect, let me know.
@ellybos1302
@ellybos1302 6 жыл бұрын
On your LCD screan there is a lightning symbool, how do you get that? On my flash yongnuo 565EXII there is no ID number? The transmitter is on M/ CH1 groupe ALL The flash slave sn groupe A CH1 What am i doing wrong?
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 6 жыл бұрын
Ah the lightning symbol is an indicator that the slave flash is ready, so once you're able to connect to your flash that icon should appear I imagine. I just read through the manual/specs for the 565ex ii, and I think the issue is that it actually doesn't support being triggered by radio, only through optical pulse. So, if you have another flash to act as the transmitter, it can control it optically, or it can work with the internal flash commander of certain cameras like the Canon 7D for example. The YN-E3-RT is only a radio transmitter, so that's why it's not connecting. As far as I can tell that's probably the issue. To fix it, you could use a YN-622C receiver on the foot of the 565 and then the YN-E3-RT would communicate with that in the same way. The flash in this video has the receiver built in, which is why it functions a little differently and doesn't need the YN-622C. Hope that helps and sorry about the confusion with the first comment!

Hi Do you have a 600ex-rt or 600exii-rt flash? If you do, or if you have the possibility to try whit this Yongnuo trigger to enable rear curtain sync while in wireless mode. I have the exii and it doesn't work, can't use rear curtain sync in wireless(incredible..the thing is, and this is my mistake, that I have not read well enough the manual before buying this flash. It's right there in the manual it says that doesn't work). I have read online that this trigger, the yn-e3-rt,can do the trick only in manual. If you have the possibility to verify this, please let me know if its true. Thanks

Hey! I actually got rid of my Canon 600ex-rt because I was so satisfied with the Godox flashes haha. But, I can confirm that like you said, the YN-E3-RT can only activate rear curtain sync in manual mode, even with the Yongnuo flash.

OK, thanks. And I wanted to buy the Godox..but..I listen to the online people that where saying> its better to have the first party units, can be incompatibilities whit third party products..and so on. This was one dumb decision that I have made. I guess now I have to buy some simple optical units to mount on the off camera flash and trigger with the on camera flash. By the way, does Godox can do this second curtain sync in wireless?

Yep. Only in Manual mode. But I wouldn’t trust any device for rear curtain synch in ETTL anyway.

The Godox does not do second curtain sync with the XT1 trigger but I'll be getting their brand new (and MUCH improved) XPro trigger in the next day or two and I'll review it very soon. It might be possible with that but I'm not sure yet.

NEED HElP! I have the exact same flashes and trigger from Yongnuo, but here is my problem. When I try to set one of the flashes Manual and leave the rest in ETTL/TTL, my problem is that the ETTL are firing the flashes as it should be (judging brigness and such...a normal ETTL effect) but the Manual flash always only out puts 1/32 of the power when I fire the shutter, regardless how much I set the Manual exposure at (as in I can set the setting at 1/1 and it still outputs 1/32 light or if I set it to 1/128, it still outputs 1/32 amount of light. This is puzzling and annoying as I cant control Manual setting when im in Gr mode. Do you have the same problem or solutions?
@ScottDumas
@ScottDumas 6 жыл бұрын
That's pretty strange... I only have one yongnuo flash at the moment to test it with so I can't really get the same conditions unfortunately. When you only have the one flash in manual mode, and not mixed with TTL does manual mode work? Is the problem only when they're mixed or the manual settings in general?
@davidyao7860
@davidyao7860 6 жыл бұрын
Scott Dumas yeah its only a problem when im mixing ttl and M in Gr mode. Like my flash connect to the remote fine, but normally when you change watever setting on ur remote, once you fire a shot, the flash will change the setting to ur remote (you can see it changes from the led screen), but this does not happen when im setting it in to M mode for one on the flashes in Gr mode. Once i fire a shot, the flash stays as Ettl. Try it in yours, you dont need multiple flashes, just set in Gr mode with one flash in M mode, see if you can control the amount.
