Hi Lisa, I love your beautiful zipped pouch! Thank you so much for your tutorial - so clear and easy to follow. Sewing in zips has always seemed a bit scary to me but I might be brave and have a go after all. Thanks again and have a wonderful day. 🌺😊

I've seen a lot of of similar tutorials and they tend to top stitch the outer fabric only, not the liner -- I always worried the liner could get caught in the zipper if it wasn't included in the top stitching, so I was happy to see you do topstitch through both layers. I think I'll do it that way next time, too! Great tutorial, thank you! :)

I have never had the lining get caught in the zipper if it is not included in the stitching next to the zipper. You have a better outcome with the ends if the lining is not included in that stitching line. Eliminates the bulk and the tabs have a smoother look. Pressing the top fabric and lining away from the zipper front and back is the answer to keep that lining from getting caught in the zipper when not stitched down with the top fabric. All the zipper bags that I have purchased do not have the lining sewn down. Check pre made bags in the stores and see how they are made. Lots of good ideas.

Great tutorial. So, it is ok to have a tiny hole at the end of the zipper tabs? When I try it, I always think it is a mistake, but I see you have it as well.
@asewinglife3 ай бұрын
Yes that’s definitely ok. That allows the tab so sit neatly and look more professional

I've been sewing cosmetic bags for a year. I use a 7" zipper. I've been adding 5.8 inch wide satin ribbon 13" long (in half) to create wristslets. I deliberately cut my fabrics at 8.5 inch by 7" (box corners). Thus enables me to have that little extra at the end, So that the tab seats firmly in place.

What model is your Singer hand crank behind you on the shelf? It is beautiful.
@asewinglife2 ай бұрын
I’ve just had to look at my machine because I had absolutely no idea what model it was. There’s a code that says ‘EF249047’. I’m not sure if that’s the model? I was given this as a present when I was a little girl and it was my very first sewing machine.
@linda97312 ай бұрын
Your serial number EF249047 indicates your Singer is a Model 99 manufactured in Kilbowie Scotland. Commission date July 1949 (production run). I am a sewist, as well as a collector and restorer of vintage and antique sewing machines.

@gstmist93622 ай бұрын
Actually you dont need to leave a hole in lining for turning, simply leave the zipper open and turn it that way
@asewinglife2 ай бұрын
Hmmm, I can’t work out if that will work or not so I’ll give it a try
