I have to say on point 2: I was trained to naturally walk looking down, though I suppose it's not at my shoes as much as the ground in front of me. I was raised rural and keeping an eye out for snakes was a thing I had so ingrained into me to the point, even living in a big city now, I pretty automatically watch the ground lest I put conscious thought not to.
