If you stare at that wallpaper long enough & focus “beyond” the actual surface, a secret message will appear. It says “Just paint the f*****g walls”

I'm just about to start wallpapering for the first time (gulp), and have a question about going round corners: Why do you put a plumb line and align the second piece to this and then cut of some waste in the very corner? Couldn't you use a laser line for your plumb line and then if you need to move the piece out from the corner by a bit to get a better pattern match in the corner, just move it out a bit, and then move the laser line out also and make sure it is plumb by making sure it aligns to the new position of the new laser projected plumb line? Also, thanks so much for the various videos - learning about how to mark with the scissors and then cut the crease has been a great help in putting up the lining paper. I started by using a blade, but I kept cutting into the gloss paint of the picture rail so the method you use has been much better.

Thank you.. usually my first plumb line is spot on so no need to move.. tried lasers to slow find my plumb Bob never fails.. thanks

I like the way you tackle the corners - great technique and well worth remembering for future use as a DIY decorator. I have to say that despite your best effort and through no fault of your own, I couldn't live with the way the pattern runs out - it would have to come off and be replaced with something more forgiving.

I done an nvq level 2 in painting and decorating 25 years ago.and all we did was go past the corner by 5mm.and with the same piece of paper left that you cut from marry it up as close to the corner.And that works a treat with match or not.And what happens in this case when you get to your next corner?
@PaintingandDecorating3 жыл бұрын
What you just explained because where I started was the start point.. splitting paper when you come to corners is the norm.

@@PaintingandDecorating oh!! Ok I think you showing people doing a corner with the same piece of paper would be more beneficial as a diagram.because I think most people will get stuck on their next corner.I’m only doing lining paper this week or I could of gave my own take myself.I’m not hating on you bro that’s for sure I appreciate anyone trying to help people out

I got myself a laser level from Screwfix for £40.. Bloody brilliant! Also have started using a snap off knife and plastic spatula for ceiling/skirting cuts and any where scissors aren't the only way - much quicker and altogether better - especially ceilings and skirtings. Get yourself an Olfa knife and a pack of blades. Snap a new tip for every drop.
@terrywalsh83553 жыл бұрын
I’ve always used a 22” metal spatula and snap-off blades. You can’t really trust scissors for trimming.

The return you mentioned. I guess as long as your plumb is spot on, the return will take care of itself.

If you did this method in 2 opposite corners and began hanging from one plumb line it's almost a certainty that the last gap between paper and other corner would not be the width of the wallpaper. How would you go about this? Thanks for the vid and I hope this question makes sense ha
@PaintingandDecorating5 жыл бұрын
Yes understand your question but that's not how we paper. Usually we start the window wall first in a room. Start on one side of the window which ever works out best for the paper. and work around the room in both directions usually meeting in the corner above the door.
@lawlor10005 жыл бұрын
@@PaintingandDecorating First off thanks for taking the time to reply. Im just about to do my first project and will use that method however if i work around the room when it comes to the final piece and say the gap is 400mm and the paper 500mm what do you do? I know im veering off the tutorial vid but any help would be very much appreciated
