Helpful video! Where can we see the finished shower? I would suggest a better caulking gun. Looks like you Brent was struggling with applying the Kerdi fix.

If you send me a text I can give you finished pictures. It may take a little bit to respond, those pictures aren’t on my phone anymore. (573) 289-1045

Do you have a video of how you finished the tile around the window once the waterproofing was done?
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don’t have a video of it.

Great video sir. Thanks. This is exactly what my project looks like. Would you be able to add a material list so a person can buy exactly what you’re using here?
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy4 жыл бұрын
I use Schluter products for my builds. What you’ll need is Kerdi Board, screws/washers, Kerdi Band and Kerdi Fix. I also use Schluter thinset to get a lifetime warranty from them as well.

I have a flush window like this in my tub, too. Looking to put a glue up shower wall/surround vs tile, will adhesive stick to the Kerdi board?
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy3 жыл бұрын
Adhesive, like silicone? I’m not sure. You could try it on something first and see how it goes.

We have about a half inch gap behind the Kerdi board and the window. What should I fill it with? And how would you make that waterproof?
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy Жыл бұрын
I’m going to have to forward that to a Schluter rep. I have an idea of how I would do what you’re describing, but I would have to check in with them first for my project anyway.

How do you ensure the window crank mechanism is waterproof? Is this window a 'waterproof' window to start with? (So then that mechanism is all waterproof from the manufacturer?)
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy3 жыл бұрын
Any water that hits the inside of the window is directed to the sash which is tilted outside.

Did you tile up to the edge of the Kerdi band, or did you go a little past? I’m assuming thinset won’t adhere to a vinyl window. I’m up against this exact scenario right now.
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy2 жыл бұрын
The tile we installed was wide enough for me to feel comfortable tiling on to the vinyl window a little bit.

EJ, nice! what size trowel? and is Brent using a putty knife to smooth the kerdi band?
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy3 жыл бұрын
We use a Kerdi trowel to apply the thinset mortar. It’s one I buy from Schluter. Yes, Brent is using a mud knife to press the Kerdi Band into the mortar. Thanks for commenting I appreciate it.

It doesn't have to be shingled....but why not do it that way for added protection?
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy2 жыл бұрын
There’s not really added protection though. A welded seam is welded regardless which way the weld is lapped v
@DamianMasters4 жыл бұрын
Hello, love your video! One question - what are you applying to the window sills after the mortar? Is this some sort of paper solution? Cheers
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy4 жыл бұрын
It’s Kerdi Band. It’s a thin paper made by Schluter that is waterproof. Kerdi Band completes the waterproofing step on all the seams and screw heads. Thanks for commenting, I really appreciate it.

What window is this? Thanks.
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy4 жыл бұрын
This is just a vinyl window. It was already installed before we did the shower. I don’t know anymore than that. Does that answer your question?
@Z-Ack3 жыл бұрын
This is a see through window. The kind with glass, a frame, that allows you to see the outside from the inside of a home, usually constructed of a wooden frame and possibly a brick and morter structure with a foundation and footing. This type of window would not be in a clay or mud building.. sorry..
@tomwolff63293 жыл бұрын
You didn't waterproof the screw holes. Kerdi wouldn't warranty this install.
@friendlyneighborhoodtileguy3 жыл бұрын
All the screws are banded over. You may not see them in this video as this video focuses only on the window. This shower is definitely fully waterproofed and covered with a lifetime warranty.
