I have to admit that, as a native Texan, the idea that you need some special sort of confidence to wear cowboy boots cracks me up. You see them down here all the time, even in the big cities. This is a good video for people who can't walk into a Cavender's and try on some boots, I guess, but I have to say that you kind of look like you're pretending to be a ranch hand. If a denim jacket has wool on the collar, it should also have wool on the inside to keep you warm. Otherwise you're wearing a spring-weight jacket with a winter-weight collar. AKA, a fashion jacket. Hence the "looks like a wannabe ranch hand" thing. Just add a bolo tie and a cheap straw cowboy hat and you're ready to audition as an extra for the TV show "Dallas." Which, believe it or not, isn't a very accurate depiction of my hometown. I'm all for everybody wearing boots, but there's no need to try too hard. Just wear 'em with your regular clothes, man.

+ATotalMitch By confidence, my definition of what Antonio meant is that the guy has to have a certain amount of guts and the ability to handle at times critical/negative comments if choosing to wear boots. You stated you're a native Texan and you see them all the time. Consider yourself lucky because in other parts of the US, that's not the case. I'm from the Midwest and although on occasion you'll see a guy wearing boots, it's definitely not the norm -- unfortunately. For those of us who love wearing boots, when doing so, you stand out of the crowd. I know I feel as if some people only associate boots with being a cowboy and some people will actually ask that question -- as dumb as that may be. So it's intimidating at times to wear boots when it's not the norm, knowing what some people's perception is of a guy wearing boots. When a guy wears athletic shoes, no one asks him if he's an athlete. It's unfortunate that a guy cannot wear boots in some parts of the country without being judged. I definitely agree with your comment about being for everyone wearing boots. However, I would add this -- regardless of what part of the country the guy lives in. I think boots are both comfortable and cool and that's why I wear them. Kudos to every guy who wears boots regardless of whether they are considered sociably acceptable footwear in the area you live.

I am from Harlem and own a pair of Western boots. I bought them in Arizona in 2008 and they still look brand new. Every time I wear them I get compliments. I really do love them. The ironic thing is that growing up I never thought I would ever own a pair because I thought that they only ran very narrow and I have very wide feet. These boots have proven to be one of the most comfortable pairs of footwear that I own. I've been to Arizona a few more times since then but wasn't able to purchase another pair. However, I do plan on obtaining more as the opportunity presents itself.

I have been wearing boots for around 45 years. I grew up on a farm in Indiana, and not only were we working the land, but we had horses to ride as well. I have been wearing Justin boots since high school, and really love the fit, and comfort they afford me. I get around 12-15 years out of a pair of Justin's. I have them resoled many times in that wear life. a tip a lot of people do not think about, but it is something my dad taught me when I was about 6 years old. get the long wallet design, and slide it into your boot with your pants outside the shaft, and you will never lose your wallet, and no one will ever be able to steal it without you feeling them grabbing your jeans. I am 50 now, and have never lost a wallet that way.

I used to wear cowboy boots a lot as a kid. And just a few days ago I got my first pair in nearly 20 years. Traditional cowboy boots are quite versatile and can be worn with many kinds of outfit including nice dressy clothes (depending on the boot of course). I'm not a fan of the work boots made to look like cowboy boots. It's like putting lipstick on a pig.

+Real Men Real Style so if you're interested in other companies of boots, I'd recommend checking out a brand called Gavel. they're based in Mexico. Their boots are totally hand made and the quality is right on par with Lucchese (I own both), but at a much more attainable price point. They're excellent quality, and they have a nice variety of exotics and other leathers. if you contact them, it is possible to have some truly beautiful boots made of any leather you can find on the market (my brother had some American alligator boots made a few years back and I have a pair of custom stingray boots on the way; you can make combinations of different skins and toe styles as well). The company is family owned and run and their customer service is fantastic. Just like Lucchese you can send your boots back to them for resoling if you want, although they send their boot repairs back to the factory in Mexico to get totally refurbished so it may take some time to get them back. This is a small company that doesn't mass produce their boots and truly cares about the quality that goes into each and every product they make. I highly reccomend looking into them at longhornwesternwear.com

I have two pair of Luccessie's, 1 Dan Post and another pair I use for outdoor work and riding my motorcycle. The black Luccessie's I wear in formal attire as I would black Boston Caps. Western or cowboy boots definitely send a message and a lot of guys recognize Luccessie when you wear them. Thanks for including them in your assessment. Reading the link on cowboy boots is laughable. Mostly because I end up being the exception. I'm a Texan, I've worked cows, and I'm in Oil and Gas sales. Side note: Shorties are girl's boots never to be worn by men. Shined or exotic ropers (not patent leather or cheap leather) make a good business casual boots because the lower heal and classic toe is initially hard to tell apart from your basic oxfords in pants that aren't tailored excessively high. Currently the norm for work boots is a square toe with a crepe sole which are meant to be beat up in a pasture or on some oil rigs, but if you see someone wearing them out and about its fairly likely that they either work with their hands or their style tends to be on the trendy side (one is kind of apart of the spirit of things the other is not). Square toes in general are trendy unless you have a super wide foot in which case, they're functional. Unless the leather is of poor quality cowboy boots with a rider heel is the traditional dress boot. I wear my dress boots with a suit and tie to the Symphony Orchestra and Steak house, to business meetings, and with jeans and a casual shirt. It works with anything. Exotic boots are a status symbol and Gators are top of the line and just under them are full quill ostrich. I prefer ostrich because it's more comfortable, but Gator is the gold standard. Buckaroo boots are for real cowboys. If you see somebody in buckaroo boots that've been beat to hell chances are, they can whip you up the meanest batch of chuck wagon beans you ever had in your life. These men also, tend to sport the greatest handle bar mustaches and have roping and branding down to an art. These boot rules apply in the majority of central fly over states like Texas, Oklahoma, Rural Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, and parts of Louisiana. These rules are lost the further east you go and on the West Coast. The highest quality brand you'll find in store will always be Lucchese. Tony Lama and Justin sold out and are no longer the boots that they once were. If you hear somebody talk up Ariat boots these are strictly work boots and don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Lucchese's are mostly manufactured in El Paso. Generally every other brand only manufacture select lines in El Paso and make the rest of their stuff in Juarez. El Paso, TX/Juarez, Mexico is the Mecca of cowboy boots, 90% of all cowboy boots in the world are made there. The majority of world class custom cowboy boot makers can be found in Houston, Ft. Worth, San Antonio, and El Paso. The boots they make are so well made they can be made heirlooms. This is about everything you need to know about cowboy boots. Also, as a last note, boots can be altered. They can be stretched up to half a size, you can change the heels and the soles on them, the only real exception to this rule is Gators. If you get a pair of Gators you're stuck with what you buy.

So I've lived in west Texas my whole life. I've worn boots for most of my 19 years of life and if your looking to style them you can knock it out pretty easy with the 527 fit by Levi if you're slender or more built but not big. Or you can wear a slim straight like a 514 or if you want to have a vintage or even the real western look wear 501's or wranglers. I personally like the idea of a little more length on my 501 raw denim so I can cuff just because I'm more into the vintage look now a days but western boots are so universal I hope this put a little insight that cowboy boots aren't just a cowboy thing or that you have to live in the south. I keep them in rotation...

Just wear them with a good pair of relaxed fit jeans. Just make sure the jeans aren't too short. That's how I wear them. Long enough so that you almost step on them in the back.

I have a pair of justins rugged cowhide boots. I've had them for well over a year now and they have done me well, i wear them daily plus they are my go to boots for anything. I condition the leather every other month or so. The leather has really gotten a unique faded look to it and i love them. I live on a farm in new york and we have horses so they come in handy plus i haven't met a girl who didn't like them unless they were some city girl or something. Its also helpful to cut a slit in the bottom of your jeans so the boot top isn't visible when you sit down.

They were the most comfortable pair of boots I had ever owned. Since then, they changed the collection they were originally in and hiked up the price by about $200.00. Still have boots in wardrobe, waiting for the right time to wear them again, especially the new pair I bought. One question for you Antonio, why didn't you show us how you style wearing your boots in the tutorial? All you did was hold up a boot from your collection to show what went into them. I checked out other of your videos of you actually demonstrating how to use practically and trying on other clothing, what makes these different?

I have some black cherry Smokey Mountain’s. Never heard of the brand, but for $100 they’re really sturdy. 11 inch shaft, real leather, riding heel and they have a rubber sole which is extremely comfortable. I wasn’t sure what I was getting into with these, but I’m impressed.

I like ariats quite a bit but they are pricey so are all the good boots. If you want good boots don't go to cheap but you don't need the most expensive ones.

+Zach Kerby Ariats are especially great if you ride horses like I do. They're really comfortable and great for riding. They make English equestrian boots, too, so they know what they're doing on the riding construction.

Confidence? I have 1 pair of regular shoes besides my hunting boots (lace up.) I think I have about 10 'western boots' as you'd call them. I guess we are just different down in texas. We wear them with slacks and even suits. Hell, they often cost more than what the ladies are spending on those fancy purses. Nice canadian tux!

I love my boots and wear them every time I can! They make me feel invincible!. I wear them with my skirts or my pants! I happy with my boots had them for 20 years now and still get compliments on them!!!! I love wearing my boots for work because they do protect my feet and keep them warm! I also notice that they support my high arch and I can stand longer in my boots. P.S My boots are the classic western boots. Love them!

I really love my Ariat R toe boots. I use them for riding and for going places. I had the cheap black and brown ones when I was little, but now have a good quality pair. I was about to discuss the role of western boots in your ultimate guide for dress boots, but this is a more fitting area. The topic relates more specifically to a formal business setting. For me, I have a dark brown pair of Ariats, roper style heel with a square toe. The stitching is dark( I stained the stitching myself, it was shiny white when I bought them), and the color is very rich. I keep them clean and well polished, the stitching and color on the shaft is well done and not bright. There are no nicks on the heel block or the rim of the boot, and I keep an eye on the sole and heel pads, replacing them as needed. From their appearance, they have all the qualities that make a nice leather dress shoe fashionable. I wear them with nice dark jeans, a good button down, and my sport coat when I go out for a drink. I also wear them with a 3 piece suit. From a functional standpoint they add a little height, but I don't need much help since I am 6' 1". I would say though that the extra inch typically ensures I am the tallest man in the room. I also find that wearing these boots gives my step a solid sound. It isn't obnoxious, or overtly loud. I would say that people hear me coming when I am near by and I find that I don't need to ask to be let by nearly as often, even in the grocery store. I was hoping you would discuss the role of these boots in a formal business dress sense. I would not wear them to a black tie event, but beyond that I think they are one of the most versatile types of footwear you can buy. I would add one caveat, I am a southern gentleman with the speech, accent, and mannerisms to match. I receive complements from my boots often, even in the board room, and they frequently revolve around the notion that the client/person is pleased to be doing business/speaking with a true southern gentleman. I wonder if this acceptance might change if a clearly non southern person wore them.
